Tips and Tricks for Windows 8 Windows 8 is optimized for touch This means that there are two interfaces to Windows 8, the traditional Desktop and also the new Metro which is optimized for touch. Metro is comprised of customizable tiles that act as icons or shortcuts Metro interface: Notice the tiles; These can be moved and you can customize as you need. To access ALL APPS, move your mouse to the bottom of the metro interface and right click. You will see the All Apps button appear.

All Apps Brings up Everything: TRICK: when at the all apps screen, just start typing what you are looking ford. Just typing in fir will show all Firefox programs. This search method works for any installed program.

TIP: How to turn off your computer: In either Metro or Desktop mode, move your cursor to the VERY TOP RIGHT portion of the screen: The Charms Bar will appear in the middle. Choose Settings > Power > Shut down

TIP: How to connect to your home Wireless Network: There are several methods to connect to wireless networks in Windows 8. One way is through the Charms Bar we just discussed. Instead of choosing Power choose the wireless symbol in the top left of the settings box. Choose your SSID at home and connect freely. To connect from the desktop mode: (most common) Double click the wireless icon and then select your SSID and check Connect Automatically

Tip: How to Search for files, programs, and settings in Windows 8 In either Metro or Desktop mode, move your cursor to the VERY TOP RIGHT portion of the screen: The Charms Bar will appear in the middle. Choose Settings > Search (the top charm) Within Search for Windows 8 we must signify what we want to search for by choosing from Apps, Settings and Files Apps will search for installed programs and apps; Settings will search for PC settings like Control Panel features, and Files will search for files on the local computer. Notice in the example, that the term the user searched for - note - shows 2 options for apps, and 2 for settings. Click on one of the three options to show the results.
