Login failed for user SA Message when locating a company in Evolution or connecting on management studio The error message in the image below may appear either when trying to locate a company on a workstation using SQL Authentication, or when trying to connect on Management Studio using the same authentication. Error message on management studio Error message on Pastel Evolution Reason and solution Login to Management Studio using Windows Authentication. Expand the Server Roles folder. The problem might be that the Public role is missing from the list and this then causes the above error.
If this is the case the best solution would be to: Backup all the companies and the EvolutionCommon database. Uninstall MS SQL Server completely; delete the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server folder. Delete all MS SQL related keys on the Registry. Restart the PC. Reinstall MS SQL. Absence of default mail client or current mail client cannot fulfil the messaging request The following error message may be received when trying sending a mail out of Evolution. Investigation findings In a recent incident we resolved this problem and the following was confirmed: The problem occurs on all Windows 7, however, it does not occur on Office 64 BIT PC s2. and The 32 BIT PC s. All normal non-evolution e-mailing worked. The error is not related to any anti-virus settings. The client whose incident was resolved works on a Domain. Error occurs on Evolution version 6.60.71. The e-mailing didn t work regardless of the fact that the System Wizard E-mail tab was set up correctly. The Windows users were not set up as Administrator account types on their own PC s but even logging in as an Administrator type user did not resolved the problem. Opening Evolution by first right clicking on the Evolution desktop icon and selecting Run as Administrator, resolved the problem. But the client s very strict internal IT policy was not to allow this in principle as the rest of Evolution worked fine when simply opening Evolution normally (using a none-administrator account). The client required a solution that did not need to follow the process outline above. The User Account Control setting was not set to Never Notify. When the User Account Control setting was set to Never Notify the Evolution e-mailing worked. Once again this went against the client s internal IT policy. The following error message was also received all with the one above.
Set up confirmed as follows 1. Start Default programs Set your default programs Microsoft Outlook Choose Defaults for this program. 2. MAPI = Send mail option selected Yes.
3. MS Outlook File Options General Start up Options. 4. The following error message was received when trying to send a test e-mail during the System Wizard e-mail tab set up and in other cases when e-mailing out of Evolution. 5. MS Outlook was the only e-mail application installed on the PC s. An interesting fact was confirmed by the Pastel Evolution Development Department: Evolution e-mailing is not compatible with Extended MAPI when running on Win 64 BIT MS Office PC s, and only Normal MAPI is supported in these cases. It was confirmed that turning UAC to Never Notify or Run as Administrator, resolved the problem. The problem thus had more to do with user rights and not e-mail sending protocols. Solution Without even having to set the User Account Control level to Never Notify, we resolved the client s problem in the following way. 1. On the following site http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7352 download an application: ApplicationCompatibilityToolKitSetup.exe
2. Using this you can set up a custom profile per application. When you create a "Fix" use the RunAsInvoker option. The detail of all of this has not been tested internally but the client was 100% satisfied with the results and his parting comments were: It works fine even with my UAC set to max security. So I can e-mail with no problem, without compromising any security. Principal vendor on the company details screen What is the meaning and functionality of the Principal Vendor option as found on the Common Maintenance Company Details Tax tab?
Solution This option will be used in compliance with SARS required VAT 201 changes as intended for Pastel Evolution version 6.82 to be released in 2013. This has now become a legislative requirement and will be used in your VAT reporting. More details to follow in a follow up Info Share in 2013. Cannot open database XXXX requested by the login. Login failed. The following error message may be received when trying to open a company. The client had a recent power failure and since then the above error message appeared across the network. Reason and solution In a recent incident, the following was discovered: Within Management Studio, the actual database was found but it was not possible to open the menu below by double clicking on the database as would be expected. This indicates corruption of some sort has occurred here and the only solution would therefore be to restore a backup Missing Bank Manager options on main Bank Manager statement provider selection dropdown On the new Evolution version 6.80 installations, you may have noticed missing Bank Manager banking options on the main bank selection dropdown - now called Statement Provider.
Reason and solution: In a previous Info Share it was mentioned that the module called Tax Manager could also be registered and this could perhaps be causing the above mentioned problem. It should therefore be unregistered. An alternative reason could also be that you could have 2 instances of Bank Manager on the Help About screen. Therefore, either get a new registration code and if this fails create and register a new EvolutionCommon database in order to see only Bank Manager 2 on the Help About screen. It may also help to uninstall the old Bank Manager if still displayed on the Programs and Features list in the Control Panel. A foreign bank account may only be specified when posting a revaluation journal batch The following batch validation error may be received on a General Ledger Journal Batch when using a Foreign Currency Bank account.
Reason and solution The above message s wording states that foreign bank accounts may only be used on a Revaluation Journal Batch. This is an option that should be selected on the Batch Properties screen. The reason why Evolution is preventing the use of a foreign currency bank account on a Standard type of batch is that an accurate relationship between the foreign currency and the equivalent local currency (e.g. SA Rand) balance should be maintained at all times. However, there is no place on the Journal Batch screen to enter the proper exchange rate and for that reason the foreign bank balance will be incorrect if the foreign bank account is actually allowed. Let s say Evolution allowed entering a SA Rand (or local currency amount) on a Foreign Currency bank account and you entered R5000 here. How would Evolution know what the foreign currency equivalent should be? It simply can t assume the calculated foreign currency equivalent by using the Common Maintenance Foreign Currency Rates. For this reason, foreign currency bank accounts are only allowed on a Foreign Currency Revaluation type of batch where you would then be able to revalue your current local currency equivalent amount according to the required, more realistic balance.
