This book contains complete instructions for installing and configuring the xpresso for Adobe InDesign. This chapter contains information you need to know before you begin installing the xpresso for Adobe InDesign software. 6 Chapter 1 - Before You Begin What is xpresso for Adobe InDesign? xpresso for Adobe InDesign enables you to use Adobe InDesign CS2 to design dynamic, rule-based documents. xpresso for Adobe InDesign is part of the xpression product suite, and is designed to use your existing digital assets to help you quickly design, compose and publish highly targeted and segmented collaterals, catalogs and direct mail. You can also easily create well-designed relationship statements and billing notices that combine transactional data with targeted marketing messages. Figure 1. xpresso for Adobe InDesign is one of the document design components of the xpression product suite. The xpresso for Adobe InDesign client works independently of the xprs Server, but once your document is ready for production, you can deploy the document and its data source on the server to publish it. Software and Hardware Requirements xpresso for Adobe InDesign has the following software and hardware requirements for each platform. Windows: Microsoft Windows 2000 (with SP2) or Windows XP Intel Pentium III or 4 processor

Document Sciences Corporation xpresso for Adobe InDesign Installer s Handbook 7 256MB of RAM (recommended 1GB) Adobe InDesign CS2 version 4.0, 4.0.1, or 4.0.2 or later Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 or newer Documentum Desktop or Documentum API version 5.25 or higher. Optional for Documentum integration; however, without either of the applications, any referenced Documentum items in the document will appear as gray boxes during the PDF preview process. Macintosh: Mac OS X version 10.2, 10.3, 10.4 or later PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor 256M of RAM (recommended 1GM) Adobe InDesign CS2 version 4.0, 4.0.1, or 4.0.2 or later Safari version 2.0.4 or newer Supported Data Types xpresso for Adobe InDesign and the xprs Server support industry standard XML data sources and data schemas for your variable data input. Your variable records can all be contained in a single XML file or broken out into separate XML files. If you have multiple XML files, store them all in the same directory, and in a location that xpresso for Adobe InDesign can access. Each of your XML files for a particular document must be compatible with the schema used to create the document. With this release, xpresso for Adobe InDesign supports the following data types: String Boolean (true/false) DateTime Date (format: YYYY-MM-DD) Time Integer Double Float

8 Chapter 1 - Before You Begin Installation Overview This section will provide you with an overview of the entire xpresso for Adobe InDesign installation process, and includes a checklist to help guide you through the process and ensure that you don t miss any steps. Here are the steps for the overall installation process: 1. Obtain your license keys. For more information, see Obtaining Your xpresso for Adobe InDesign License Key on page 8. 2. (Optional) Uninstall any legacy software such as xpresso Personal Edition, or xpresso Enterprise Edition version 2.0 Beta1 or Beta2. For more information, see Existing xpresso Installations on page 9. 3. Install the xpresso client software. For more information, see Installing on Windows on page 13 4. Verify your installation. For more information, see Verifying Your Installation on page 29. 5. Documentum only: Configure xpresso for Adobe InDesign for Documentum integration. For more information, see Documentum Integration on page 33. Make a copy of, or print out the appropriate checklist, and use it as you install xpresso for Adobe InDesign. It will help ensure that you don t miss any important steps in the process. Each application server has it s own checklist, locate your application server below. Obtaining Your xpresso for Adobe InDesign License Key Document Sciences Customer Care provides the license key necessary to install and use xpresso for Adobe InDesign. You ll need a license key for each of your client software installations. Document Sciences Corporation xpresso for Adobe InDesign Installer s Handbook 9 You must have the xpresso for Adobe InDesign license key in order to complete the xpresso for Adobe InDesign installation program. In order for Customer Care to generate your xpresso for Adobe InDesign license, you must first send them the machine code of each computer that will be using the client. To obtain your machine code: 1. Locate the \Client\platform folder on your installation CD, or the directory where you unzipped your downloaded FTP files. 2. Double-click xpressoregister.exe (Windows), or xpressoregister (Macintosh). The Machine Code Generator appears, and displays your machine code. Figure 2. The xpresso Machine Code Generator retrieves and displays the machine code of the computer you run it on. This code is required for xpresso licensing. 3. Send the machine code to customercare@docscience.com. 4. Close the Machine Code Generator window. Once Customer Care receives your request for a license key with your machine code, they will generate your license key and send it in a reply e-mail. Existing xpresso Installations If you have a previous release of xpresso for Adobe InDesign installed on the same computer that you are going to install this new release, you can either install over your existing release, or uninstall it first.

10 Chapter 1 - Before You Begin If you install without uninstalling first, the installation program will confirm that you want to overwrite your existing install. Figure 3. This confirmation dialog appears during the installation process. Click Yes to continue with the installation, and overwrite your existing installation. Or click No to cancel the installation and uninstall your existing installation first. For specific instructions on uninstalling your software version and platform, see Uninstalling Existing Installations on page 35. If you have xpresso Personal Edition (PE) installed on the same computer that you are going to install this new release of xpresso for Adobe InDesign, you should uninstall before installing the new software. Icons and Revision Bars When one of the following icons appears in the left margin of a page, it alerts you to special information. Caution: The warning cautions you that a fatal error, unsatisfactory output, or loss of data may occur if you do not follow directions carefully. Tip: A tip offers suggestions to simplify a task or describes a useful shortcut. They may also describe an alternate way to use the techniques described in the text. Note: A note offers information that emphasizes or supplements important points of the main text. Other icons appear to identify a process or button described in the text. Revision bars help you locate new or changes information. Look for these revision bars in the right margin of each affected page.

Ensure that you have Adobe InDesign CS2 installed on the computer before you install xpresso for Adobe InDesign. This chapter covers installing on a Windows platform. Note: xpresso for Adobe InDesign version 2.0 and later doesn t support InDesign CS. 14 Chapter 2 - Installing on Windows Before You Begin Before you begin the installation of xpresso for Adobe InDesign, ensure that you ve: Obtained your xpresso for Adobe InDesign license key. For more information, see Obtaining Your xpresso for Adobe InDesign License Key on page 8. (Optional) Uninstalled any previously-installed version of xpresso. For more information, see Existing xpresso Installations on page 9. Once you have completed these steps, you are ready to install xpresso for Adobe InDesign. Performing a Windows Installation The xpresso for Adobe InDesign Windows installation is a series of easyto-follow wizard screens. Locate your installation CD, then follow these steps: 1. Insert the installation CD in your CD drive, or locate your downloaded files. In the \Client\Windows directory, locate and double click xpresso_for_indesigncs2_install_windows.exe. Figure 4. The xpresso for Adobe InDesign installation Introduction page provides some basic information about the installation process.

You ll need to tell the installer where your InDesign software is installed. 3. Type the directory path of the InDesign software, or click the browse button to locate the correct directory. If you installed InDesign in the default folder, the correct path should be displayed. Click Next. The User Information page appears. Figure 6. This page identifies the person that will be using the software.

16 Chapter 2 - Installing on Windows 4. Type the name of your company and name of the person who will be using this software on this computer. Click Next. The License Key page appears. Figure 7. You must enter a valid license key, supplied to you by Document Sciences Customer Care, to continue with the installation. 5. Enter the license key provided to you by Customer Care. If you don t have your license key, see Obtaining Your xpresso for Adobe InDesign License Key on page 8. Click Next. The Sun Microsystems License Agreement page appears. Figure 8. The first License Agreement page that appears requires you to accept the Sun Microsystems license agreement to continue with the installation.

The Multivalent Software License Agreement page appears. Figure 9. The second license agreement page requires that you accept the Multivalent Software license agreement to continue with the installation. 7. Click I accept the terms of the License Agreement to continue with the installation. Click Next. The itext Software License Agreement page appears. Figure 10. The third license agreement page requires that you accept the itext Software license agreement to continue with the installation.

18 Chapter 2 - Installing on Windows 8. Click I accept the terms of the License Agreement to continue with the installation. Click Next. The Image Storage Folder page appears. Figure 11. Specify the location where you want to store images that you ll insert into documents using a relative path. Any image inserted using a relative path must reside in the directory you specify here. 9. Click Choose to browse to and select the directory where you ll store any images that may be inserted into a document using a relative path. Or you can leave the default path. Click Restore Default Folder if you need to restore the default value. 10. Click Next. The Pre-Installation Summary page appears. Figure 12. This page displays important information that should be reviewed before continuing with the installation.

Or click Previous to return to a previous page and make changes. If you click Install, the installation progress page appears. Figure 13. The Installing xpresso for Adobe InDesign progress page shows what the installation program is doing, and how far along it is in the process. Once the installation is complete, the Installation Complete page appears. Figure 14. The Install Complete page informs you that your installation completed successfully. If the installation program encountered any problems, they would be noted here. 12. Click Done to complete your xpresso for Adobe InDesign installation. Now that you have installed xpresso for Adobe InDesign, you should perform an end-to-end verification test to ensure that your installation is configured and working correctly. For more information, see Verifying Your Installation on page 29.

20 Chapter 2 - Installing on Windows Troubleshooting If you encounter an issue during the installation of the xpresso for Adobe InDesign client, information in this section may help you determine the cause and fix the problem. Valid License Being Called Invalid If you encounter an issue where a license you know is valid is not being accepted as valid by the xpresso for Adobe InDesign installation program, you may have a problem with your temporary directory. It is possible for the installer to be unable to run programs contained in your temporary folder. This may be caused by the temp folder variable pointing to a non-existent directory. Setting your environment variable "temp" and "tmp" user variables to "%SystemRoot%\TEMP" may solve the problem. To identify whether the problem are you are encountering is caused by the temp folder issue, you can click the CTRL key continually during the installation process and watch the messages that appear. If you see a message stating that running "forinstall.exe" failed with an error number of 2, the temp folder issue may be causing your problem.

Insert the installation CD in your CD drive, and navigate to the \Client\Macintosh directory, or locate your downloaded files. Doubleclick xpresso_for_indesigncs2_install_mac. Figure 15. During this verification process, you ll open a document in xpresso for Adobe InDesign and preview and package it. 30 Chapter 4 - Verifying Your Installation Previewing the Document The first steps to verifying your xpresso for Adobe InDesign installation is to make sure you can open and preview the document. The document we ll use for this test is one of the documents that is installed with the software and used in the xpresso for Adobe InDesign Tutorial. For more information about xpresso for Adobe InDesign, see the xpresso for Adobe InDesign User Guide. To preview your test document: 1. Start Adobe InDesign CS2. 2. Open Postcard Solution.indd, located in the following directory: [InDesign installation directory]\xpressohelp\tutorial\postcard If a message about missing links appears, click Fix links automatically. Once the process is complete, xpresso for Adobe InDesign opens the PDF in a separate Adobe Reader window. 7. Close the Adobe Reader window, and return to InDesign. Leave the document open in xpresso for Adobe InDesign so that you can complete the steps in the next section.

32 Chapter 4 - Verifying Your Installation Packaging the Document The second step to verifying the xpresso for Adobe InDesign Installation is to package the document, so that you can deploy it on the xprs Server and verify the server installation later. 1. Click Create xprs Package on the xpresso menu. 2. Select the directory where you want to store your test package. This directory should be accessible from your xprs Server. Name your package Test Document.pkg and click Save. The Export Option dialog box appears. Figure 29. You can specify export options when creating your PDF preview. 3. You can open documents stored in Documentum, save documents into Documentum, and place images or PDFs from Documentum into your document. Before you can use all these features, however, you must configure your environment for Documentum integration. The steps in this chapter should be completed after you have installed and tested your complete xpresso for Adobe InDesign installation. This chapter includes these topics: xpresso for Adobe InDesign Integration on page 34

34 Chapter 5 - Documentum Integration xpresso for Adobe InDesign Integration To work with Documentum through xpresso for Adobe InDesign, most of the setup is done on the client computer. For more information, see the xpresso for Adobe InDesign User Guide. You are not required to install any Documentum software on your xpresso for Adobe InDesign client computer; however, if you don t, you will not be able to PDF preview any images or PDFs included by reference in your documents. The images or PDFs will appear as gray boxes in the PDF preview. To ensure that you can view all of your Documentum content in xpresso for Adobe InDesign, you must install the Documentum Desktop software. To configure xpresso for Adobe InDesign for Documentum integration: 1. Install the Documentum Desktop client software. During the installation, note the location of the configuration folder - you ll need this information later. Also, ensure that you enter the correct Documentum broker server name. If the Desktop software is already installed on your computer, find the location of the configuration folder. 2. Navigate to the configuration folder. The default location is [Documentum Install Drive]:\Documentum\Config. 3. Copy the dfc.properties file located in the \Config folder. 4. Navigate to the [InDesign CS2 Install Directory]\xPresso\conf directory. 5. Paste the dfc.properties file into the \conf directory.

36 Appendix A - Uninstalling Existing Installations xpresso Personal Edition If you created documents using xpresso for Adobe InDesign PE, they will work with xpresso for Adobe InDesign 2.0 and later, with some exceptions. For example, the table creation mechanism has changed between the two releases, so you will need to recreate your tables in this version of xpresso for Adobe InDesign. To uninstall xpresso for Adobe InDesign PE: 1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel to open the Control Panel. 2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs. 3. Click xpresso for Adobe InDesign CS Personal Edition, Version 3.0. 4. Click Change/Remove. The xpresso PE uninstall program starts. Figure 31. The InstallShield Wizard enables you to modify, repair, or remove an installation. We want to remove the xpresso PE installation. 5. Select Remove and click Next. The uninstall program begins to remove the components and displays a progress page as it does so. When the process completes, the wizard displays a Maintenance Complete page. 7. Click Finish.

Document Sciences Corporation xpresso for Adobe InDesign Installer s Handbook 37 xpresso for Adobe InDesign Version 2.0 Documents created with all previous releases of xpresso for Adobe InDesign version 2.0 will work with the new version. xpresso for Adobe InDesign Beta1 release software supported Adobe InDesign CS, Beta2 and all subsequent versions of xpresso for Adobe InDesign support only Adobe InDesign CS2. If you are upgrading from Beta1 software, you must also upgrade your Adobe InDesign software. This section contains instructions for uninstalling xpresso for Adobe InDesign on all supported platforms: xpresso for Adobe InDesign Windows on page 37 xpresso for Adobe InDesign Macintosh on page 38 You ll need to restart after uninstalling. xpresso for Adobe InDesign Windows To uninstall xpresso for Adobe InDesign software on a Windows platform: 1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel to open the Control Panel. 2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs. 3. Click xpresso for Adobe InDesign CS (for Beta1), or xpresso for Adobe InDesign CS2 (all subsequent releases) and click Change/ Remove. The Uninstall xpresso for Adobe InDesign CS/CS2 program starts. Note: The uninstall process for Beta1 software and all the subsequent releases are identical - the only difference is the version of InDesign in the title of the program: CS for Beta1 and CS2 for all others. 4. Click Uninstall. The uninstall program begins to remove the components and displays a progress page as it does so.

The Uninstall Complete page informs you that the uninstall process completed successfully. Any items that the program was unable to uninstall are listed here. 6. Make a note of any directories or files that were not removed and click Done. 7. Browse to a directory listed on the Uninstall Complete page and delete the remaining xpresso for Adobe InDesign items. Repeat for all the items that were listed on the page. 8. Restart your computer, unless your server software resides on the same computer. In that case, uninstall the xprs Server before restarting. Navigate to the Adobe InDesign CS2/xPresso/UninstallerData directory. 2. Double-click Uninstall_xPresso_for_InDesign. The Uninstall xpresso for Adobe InDesign CS2 program appears. 3. Click Uninstall. The uninstall program begins to remove the components and displays a progress page as it does so. When it completes, it displays an Uninstall Complete page. 4. Click Done.
