Introduction The 10.0 release of the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) includes new features and resolutions to previously identified issues. What s New PowerTeacher Pro Introducing the next generation gradebook. PowerTeacher Pro improves tremendously on the previous PowerTeacher Gradebook, combining an intuitive user interface with robust functionality for standards-based and traditional grading, and includes new features for managing the classroom. Find out more about this exciting new release on PowerSource. Feature Description District-Defined Gradebook Categories PowerTeacher Pro categories may now be created from the District Office and assigned to all teachers at the designated schools. Individual schools can choose which districtassigned categories to leave active from School Setup. District-Defined Reporting Term Calculations Reporting term calculations may now be created from the District Office and assigned to one or more schools. Calculation setup configured at the district level will save teachers significant time in the setup of their gradebooks. Reporting term calculations are used to define default settings for teachers. Individual reporting terms may be configured and locked, preventing teachers from modifying them. Introduction 5

Feature Description District-Defined Gradebook Display Settings A variety of PowerTeacher Pro display preferences may now be configured at the school under School Setup or from the District Office and assigned to all teachers at the designated schools. District-Defined Gradebook Standards Settings A variety of PowerTeacher Pro settings for the calculation of standards grades may now be configured from the District Office and assigned to all teachers at the designated schools. Access from Most Device Types With an Internet Connection PowerTeacher Pro offers the same great user experience and full functionality from most computers or tablets, including Mac, Windows, ios, Android, and Chromebooks. For a complete list of PowerSchool 10 supported tablets and operating systems, see the Hardware and Software Requirements for PowerSchool 10, available on PowerSource. HTML5 based, so Java is no longer required. Manage Assignments and Analyze Performance Across Multiple Classes Easy-to-use graphs and charts to aid teacher analysis and professional judgment. Teachers can view all of their classes together, from the same or multiple schools, faster and easier than ever before. New Score Attributes and Other Robust Features Score attributes are available for Incomplete and Absent to identify individual student or class status at-a-glance in the scoresheet. New Grade Scale Types Two additional grade scale types have been added to increase grading flexibility. Numeric grade scales are new for use in PowerTeacher Pro and can be used for both course grades and standards grades. Special Codes grade scales provide a way to set up codes for either course grade overrides or custom teacher codes to be used on assignments. Many parameters and values can be pre-defined for these codes. What s New 6

Enterprise Reporting Enterprise Reporting continues as a preview release in PowerSchool 10.0 as we continue to fine-tune performance, deployment, and go-to-market model for the tool. Enterprise Reporting offers you the power and flexibility of creating ad hoc reports that leverage the entire SIS data model. It is critical that the SQL used in the ad hoc reports is carefully optimized for performance in order to minimize negative impact to the performance of the PowerSchool application. PowerSchool strongly recommends that if you plan to create ad hoc reports using APEX, you receive certification training through our Customer Education group. Contact Customer Education at training@powerschool.com. In addition, our Product Tailoring group can help create reports for you. Contact Product Tailoring at CustomizationServices@powerschool.com, or visit the Customization Services page on PowerSource. We are looking at providing managed services and/or premium hosting services for customers with higher reporting needs for creating and deploying reports. PowerSchool reserves the right to revoke access to create or run ad hoc reports, which has the potential to adversely impact system performance within the PowerSchool hosted environment. Access will be reinstated through certification or recertification. Feature Description Integration of Enterprise Reporting in PowerSchool Access to Enterprise Reports directly from within PowerSchool allows broader access to critical data needed by the district to a variety of end users. Enterprise Reports are now located on a dedicated tab on the System Reports page. Six report categories have been created to help organize and secure published reports. Security Based on User Access Roles Control over access to published Enterprise Reports and categories is now controlled using User Access Roles. A new tab has been added to the Edit User Access Role page for these settings. There is also a setting to grant access to manage and edit the Enterprise Reports page. Management of Enterprise Reports within categories Enterprise Reports created in APEX may be added, categorized, and published within PowerSchool allowing districts to easily create ad hoc reports and provide access to their data. What s New 7

Feature Description Management of access to APEX Granting users access to the APEX Builder can now be managed from within PowerSchool. These APEX Developers are able to create queries and reports which may be published as Enterprise Reports in PowerSchool. These new permissions are found on the Application tab of the Security Settings page for staff. Altered Database Security To improve security, users with access to the APEX Bulider no longer have full administrative access to the Oracle database. They now create reports using an account with read-only access. Important Notes: In preparation for upgrading to PowerSchool 10, you will need to export and save the Enterprise Reports that you created or modified in the preview release. For more information, Knowledgebase article 77007, available on PowerSource. Users of the Enterprise Reporting Preview Release should note that there have been several changes to enhance security and some features have been limited in PowerSchool 10. For more information, see Knowledgebase article 77063, available on PowerSource. What s New 8

PowerSchool SIS/PowerSchool Registration Signature Integration The enhanced functionality provided in this release includes: Feature Description PowerSchool Registration Signature Integrated with PowerSchool The PowerSchool SIS is now integrated with PowerSchool Registration Signature (formerly InfoSnap Secure). As part of this integration, schools with both products can enable single sign-on for parents and administrators from the SIS to Registration Signature. Note: Each PowerSchool client using PowerSchool Registration Signature will have one or multiple uniquely configured PowerSchool Registration plugins, which are provided by your PowerSchool Registration solutions support staff. If you are already a PowerSchool Registration Signature customer, please have your organization s technical contact email your PowerSchool Registration specialist to request your site's upgrade to the new PowerSchool Registration plugin. Registration Signature Creates Student Enrollment Fees As part of the PowerSchool SIS/Registration Signature integration, student enrollment fees, such as after-school care registration fees, can be created and assessed to a student's SIS record as part of the online enrollment process. Parent/Guardian Access to Enrollment Screens With the PowerSchool SIS/Registration Signature integration, PowerSchool Admins can now control specific parent/guardian access to a student's enrollment forms through the Access Account screens in PowerSchool SIS. What s New 9

Feature New Document Attachment Size Limits Description To support the ability of PowerSchool Registration to add enrollment documents to the PowerSchool SIS student record, PowerSchool SIS administrators now have the ability to configure document size limits per student and per document. For PowerSchool SIS systems that use the Document Attachment feature, the default size limits are set at 10 MB per student and 1 MB per document. These limits can be reset or disabled. If existing documents reach or exceed the default student size limit, a warning displays and no additional documents can be attached to that student s record. Coming Soon: Enrollment Documents Attached to Student SIS Record With a future release of PowerSchool Registration Signature, scheduled for late summer 2016, parents can scan and send enrollment documents to their student's SIS record as part of the enrollment process. This eliminates the need for school office staff to manually upload enrollment documents, such as birth certificates and immunization records. PowerSchool SIS/PowerSchool Assessment and Analytics Integration The enhanced functionality provided in this release includes: Feature Description PowerSchool Assessment and Analytics Integrated with PowerSchool SIS The PowerSchool SIS is now integrated with PowerSchool Assessment and Analytics (formerly Interactive Achievement OnTrac). As part of this integration, schools with both products can enable single sign-on for teachers from PowerTeacher Pro to PowerSchool Assessment and Analytics. Note: Each PowerSchool SIS client using PowerSchool Assessment and Analytics will need to install and enable a PowerSchool Assessment and Analytics plugin. This plugin What s New 10

Feature Description activates the PowerTeacher Pro/PowerSchool Assessment and Analytics single signon links. The plugin will be provided to you during implementation of PowerSchool Assessment and Analytics. If you are already a PowerSchool Assessment and Analytics customer, have your organization s technical contact email the PowerSchool Assessment and Analytics Support team. Assessment and Analytics Single Sign-on Links in PowerTeacher Pro As part of the PowerSchool SIS/Assessment integration, teachers can single sign-on to specific Assessment functions from within PowerTeacher Pro. Links to Assessment functions such as creating a test, managing test sessions, viewing test results, and more are available within the PowerTeacher Pro Assessments menu. For those systems that also use PowerSchool Analytics LDS reporting, additional links are available in the PowerTeacher Pro Reports menu. The single sign-on links from PowerTeacher Pro to specific PowerSchool Assessment and Analytics functions only display at sites that use both products, and only after the PowerSchool Assessments and Analytics plugin is enabled within the SIS. Coming Soon: PowerTeacher Pro Gradebook Integration with PowerSchool Assessment With a future release of PowerSchool Assessment and Analytics, scheduled for late summer 2016, teachers will have the ability to create tests in PowerSchool Assessment and optionally share those tests with the PowerTeacher Pro gradebook. Assessments shared with the PowerTeacher Pro gradebook will be automatically created as gradebook assignments. After students take the assessment, their test scores will be automatically updated in the gradebook. What s New 11

PowerSchool API The enhanced PowerSchool API functionality provided in this release includes the features listed below. For details on using changed data subscriptions or specific API endpoints, see the API documentation on the PowerSource PowerSchool developer website. Feature Description PowerTeacher Pro Gradebook Integration Endpoints New API endpoints have been developed to allow PowerSchool ISV partner systems to integrate with the new PowerTeacher Pro gradebook. Using these new endpoints, external systems such as LMS vendors can create, update and delete assignments in the new PowerTeacher Pro gradebook. PowerTeacher Pro Teacher Category Endpoints External systems can use new PowerTeacher Pro API endpoints to read and write teacher-level assignment categories. These categories can then be used when creating and updating assignments within the new PowerTeacher Pro gradebook. PowerTeacher Pro vs. PowerTeacher Gradebook Sections As teachers migrate to the new PowerTeacher Pro gradebook, they may keep some of their sections in the legacy PowerTeacher Gradebook, while others use the new PowerTeacher Pro gradebook. Because of this, the PowerSchool API includes a new endpoint that allows integrated systems to get the correct gradebook version per section. In addition, the API endpoints that allow assignment create/update/delete have been updated to prevent any actions to the gradebook unless the correct API endpoint for that section (PTP vs PTG) is used. Get Changed Data External systems can now pull only changed data when reading PowerSchool SIS data via a PowerQuery. What s New 12

Feature Description Update Plugin Version The Plugin Detail screens within PowerSchool SIS now support the deployment of new plugin versions without requiring the removal/uninstall of the previous version. Updating a new plugin via the Update button with the Plugin detail screen preserves the plugin's authorization credentials as long as the plugin name and publisher are unchanged. Write-to Student Transportation Record A new API endpoint allows external systems to write to the SIS student transportation record. Graduation Planner Enhancements The enhanced functionality provided in this release includes: Feature Description Graduation Requirement Waivers Graduation waivers can be configured at the district level as part of the graduation plan. The waivers can then be used to waive a student s graduation requirement. Graduation Waivers Report An individual student report is available, as well as a report for a group of students. Graduation Requirement Options A graduation requirement can now be configured to be met in multiple ways, allowing, for example, the requirement of multiple years of the same language. Graduation Requirement Test Scores One or more tests or test scores can now be configured as required for graduation. Specific target scores can be entered. The students progress on the requirement is now available on the Graduation Progress page and details which test scores have or have What s New 13

Feature Description not passed the preset requirement. Access to Graduation Plan Data The data that appears on the Graduation Plan Progress page is now available in the database. Miscellaneous Enhancements The enhanced functionality provided in this release includes: Feature Description Delete Student Fee The student fee screen now allows PowerSchool administrators to delete a student fee. Only student fees that do not have payments associated to them are able to be deleted. Quick Lookup Preferences The sort order of the reporting terms on the Quick Lookup page can now be set under School Setup > Quick Lookup Preferences. PowerScheduler Enhancements Various PowerScheduler enhancements have been made: Teachers > Schedule - Added Course Number Sections > Edit/New - Section Type ordered by Description Courses > Section - Section Type shows display name Teachers > Section - Section Type shows display name Courses > Course - Added Constraint Name Current BuildID and CourseCatalogID are now included in the headers What s New 14

Mobile App Enhancements The enhanced functionality provided in this release includes: Feature Description PowerTeacher Pro Compatibility All queries that access grade related data have been rewritten for PowerTeacher Pro. Trending Indicators The trending indicator colors have been modified and can now be disabled based on user preference. Performance and Stability Improvements The time to update data in the Android app has been reduced and overall stability improvements have been made across platforms. Accessibility Enhanced accessibility features have been implemented for the Android app. What s New 15

Removed Features/Future Deprecation Issue Description Background Attendance The background attendance feature has been removed in PowerSchool 10.0.0.0. Customers utilizing background attendance will automatically be migrated to foreground attendance. Custom Field ODBC Mirroring December 2016 The custom field mirroring functionally will be removed in the December 2016 release of PowerSchool. This impacts the use of the CustomVarchar and CustomText tables as well as the PVSIS_CUSTOM views. These tables/views are not updated once fields are migrated to Database Extensions. Queries utilizing these tables/views should be rewritten to utilize DB Extension tables directly or the PS_CustomFields API documented in Knowledgebase article 74827, available on PowerSource. Note that this ONLY impacts the accessing of custom data via CustomVarchar, CustomText and PVSIS_CUSTOM. It does not impact custom field migration or access via the PS_CustomFields API. Customers not utilizing these tables/views should disable Custom Field Mirroring by following the steps outlined under Disable Customs Field Mirroring/ODBC Access in Knowledgebase article 10319, available on PowerSource. Removed Features/Future Deprecation 18

Installation Notes You must be running PowerSchool 9.2.x or greater, or PowerSchool 8.3.x, in order to upgrade to PowerSchool 10.0. Customers currently running PowerSchool 9.0.x or 9.1.x will have to upgrade to 9.2.x prior to upgrading to 10.0. See the Upgrade Paths section for more information. The installer setup files for this release are available for download from PowerSource. Upgrade Checkpoints for PowerTeacher Pro PowerTeacher Pro provides a method for you to migrate existing assignments created in PowerTeacher Gradebook (PTG). There are a few key things to check before your teachers migrate to PowerTeacher Pro. Prior to upgrade to PowerSchool 10: Verify that all current conversion scales are correct and valid. Any invalid conversion scales will not migrate to grade scales in PowerTeacher Pro. Verify the conversion scales after upgrade as well. After upgrade to PowerSchool 10, Verify that all grades in your grade scales are set up correctly. To validate, submit the existing grade scale and clean up any validation errors. Check System > System Logs > Schema Updates for GradeScaleItemRemoveInvalidScales. Create a new grade scale to match any conversion scale that was not automatically migrated and link the new grade scale to any affected standard. Verify PowerTeacher Pro settings in the District > PowerTeacher Pro area of PowerSchool. Verify that report cards work correctly. Note: ReportWorks will not display standards grades information from PowerTeacher Pro. To display standards grades data entered via PowerTeacher Pro, use object reports. For complete information on the migration from PowerTeacher Gradebook to PowerTeacher Pro, see the PowerTeacher Pro Migration Guide, available on PowerSource. Installation Notes 19

Increased Installation Time Upgrading Oracle for PowerSchool 10 PowerSchool releases periodically require an upgrade to the Oracle database. Upgrades may include patches to Oracle as well as installation or upgrade of Oracle Application Express to support the new Enterprise Reporting feature. These updates will require a longer installation time than a typical update, so plan accordingly. In addition, if you are on a PowerSchool version older than PowerSchool 9.2, the database installation requires up to 6 GB of temporary disk space while the installation occurs and patches are applied. An additional 1 GB is required after installation for the database patches. Important Information on Load Balancers Self-hosted customers utilizing load balancers with older firmware versions may have to upgrade the load balancer firmware prior to upgrading to PowerSchool 10. We strongly encourage customers to keep load balancer firmware current for security reasons. Client Workstation Impact A regression issue was introduced in the Java 8u91 update that prevents the launching of JNLP files with various common third-party libraries (https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/jdk-8156682). The standalone PowerTeacher Gradebook application is unaffected by this issue, as it contains a bundled version of Java. For customers using the JNLP launch method of ReportWorks or PowerTeacher Gradebook, it is recommended that you do not update to Java 8u91 at this time. If you have already installed this version of Java and are experiencing issues launching the PowerTeacher Gradebook, there are two options available: Install and/or use the standalone PowerTeacher Gradebook application. See PowerSource for more information. Downgrade Java to a version previous to 8u91. For customers who are experiencing this issue with ReportWorks, downgrade Java to a version previous to 8u91. Installation Notes 20

Important Installation Reminders The database must be in an idle state for the install to successfully apply. Shut down PowerSchool services and ensure that no other connections are allowed to the database during installation. IF YOU ARE PERFORMING AN UPGRADE FROM A PREVIOUS FEATURE RELEASE - (for example, from 8.x) the time to complete the upgrade can be substantial, depending on the version you are upgrading from, and the size of your database. PowerSchool recommends you schedule your upgrade during a time that will have the least impact to PowerSchool users. Upgrade Paths If you are upgrading from PowerSchool 9.2.x: PowerSchool 10.0.0.0 Application Installer Database Scripts Updater 12.1.0.2 (Support > Downloads > PowerSchool Database > PowerSchool Database 12.1.0.2 for use with PowerSchool 10.x.) Consult the latest SIF documentation for information on updating to the latest SIF version. The PowerSchool Application Installer is available at Support > Downloads > PowerSchool > PowerSchool Installers > PowerSchool 10.x> PowerSchool Application [version] installer. The PowerSchool Database Scripts Updater is available at Support > Downloads > PowerSchool Database > PowerSchool Database 12.1.0.2 for use with PowerSchool 10.x. The State Reporting Installers are available at Support > Downloads > PowerSchool > State Reporting Installers. Use the PowerSchool installer to manage your PowerSchool deployment. It installs the database and application for a specific server, and it configures per-server settings such as database and web server ports, passwords, and file paths. Important Information on Enterprise Reporting Export and Save Enterprise Reports Created or Modified in Preview Release With this release, Enterprise Reporting is more fully integrated with PowerSchool reporting. The plugin used to deliver Enterprise Reporting in the previous preview release and all content will be removed and features will be available through the PowerSchool user interface after the upgrade. In preparation for upgrading to PowerSchool 10, you will need to export and save the individual Enterprise Reports that you created or modified in the preview release. After the upgrade, you may then import these individual reports back to Oracle Application Express (APEX) so that they will be available. PowerSchool 10 provides two Enterprise Reporting applications within APEX. Enterprise Reporting 100 may be used for customized APEX reports and Enterprise Reporting 200 may be used for PowerSchool example reports and updates in order to avoid encountering page conflicts. Import your individual reports created in the preview release back into Enterprise Reporting 100. Going forward, be aware that the reports you create with Enterprise Reporting that you create or modify must be backed-up separately from within APEX and will not be backed-up with your PowerSchool data. For detailed information about how to export APEX reports, see the Exporting an Application and Application Components: Exporting a Page in an Application section in the Application Express Application Builder User's Guide. For detailed Installation Notes 22

information about how to import exported APEX reports, see the Importing Export Files: Importing an Application, Page or Component Export section in the Application Express Application Builder User's Guide. PowerSchool System Requirements If this is the first time you are installing PowerSchool, review the PowerSchool 10.x Hardware and Software Requirements and the Installation Guide for PowerSchool 10.x, available on PowerSource, before installing this version of PowerSchool. The Hardware and Software Requirements are updated periodically, and contain information on supported software and browser versions for a release. Review this document before installing updates to PowerSchool. General Recommendation PowerSchool strongly recommends that you check to make sure Transport Layer Security (TLS)/Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is enabled on your PowerSchool server to ensure all data passed between your server and end users/powerschool Technical Support remains secure and private. If TLS/SSL is not enabled, data moving between your server and end users is unencrypted. For more information on implementing TLS/SSL, see Knowledgebase article 8476 available on PowerSource. Security The security of information pertaining to students, parents, and staff is one of our greatest concerns at PowerSchool. While we take every measure to ensure our solutions are secure, such as security vulnerability scanning, PowerSchool strongly recommends that all customers review the PowerSchool Security Best Practices document, available on PowerSource. Upgrade Assistance If customers hosting their own instance of PowerSchool would like PowerSchool to perform the PowerSchool upgrade on their behalf, contact the PowerSchool Technical Solutions Group at tsghelpdesk@powerschool.com for information concerning scope, cost, and availability of services. APEX email function does NOT work when Adv Email SMTP Authentication is enabled in PowerSchool. When permanently storing grades at completion if you are using Chrome, and you use the browser back arrow the default settings are inconsistent. Workaround: Do not use the browser back arrow. Click on System > Permanently Store Grades to start another store process. If an exported table contains localizable data such as a code field, the ID field must be included in the export. If the ID field is not included, the query will either return 0 results or the following message will appear: An unexpected error has occurred while communicating with the server. Please contact your administrator. Workaround: Include the ID field in exports. When a Co-Teacher logs into PowerTeacher Pro prior to the Lead Teacher, they will be unable to create assignments. Workaround: Lead Teacher logs into PowerTeacher Pro initially. Known Issues 31

Standards ReportWorks reports do not pull data from PowerTeacher Pro. Workaround: A object report can be created using the standards object. There is currently no way to easily restore the APEX application, users, and default reports or to move them to another instance. Workaround: In the PowerSchool 10.0 Enterprise Reporting Preview Release, you must use the RMAN backup in order to restore the APEX application, users, and default reports. A New special operation is available to fix improperly coded payment methods within PowerSchool. This would have occurred if the API was used to log fee payments within the last year: 1. On the start page, choose System under Setup in the main menu. The System Administrator page appears. 2. Under Data Management, click Special Operations. The Special Operations page appears. 3. Choose Auto-fix invalid fee transaction payment methods from the pop-up menu. 4. An optional date value for the Param1 field can be used if Fee Transactions created by the API with a date prior to 6/1/2015 need to be fixed. 5. In the Code field, enter fixpayment. 6. Click Submit.
