Before you begin Before you proceed, make sure that your peripheral system hardware (such as controllers, readers, and network lines) are installed and running. Use a standard, straight-through PC-to-modem cable that includes TxD, RxD, RTS, CTS, DSR, DCD, DTR, RI, and ground. The setup of the Hidex modem depends on the product you are using with this modem. This document includes the following sections: Picture Perfect - refer to "Picture Perfect" on page 2. Secure Perfect - Refer to "Secure Perfect 6.1.1/FCWnx" on page 4. RS-232 Communication Cable Overview - Refer to "RS-232 Communication Cable Overview" on page 7. Hidex Modem Setup Instructions 1
Picture Perfect Picture Perfect In Picture Perfect, controllers are allowed only one modem type. Controllers call only those host modems that are of the same modem type. The Hidex host port modem can communicate with the following internal modems for Picture Perfect: PXNplus internal modem DirecDoor internal modem The following are not compatible with the Hidex modems for Picture Perfect: PX controller PXN controller Host, modem configuration, and programming To configure the host port modem: 1. If this is the first time you are adding a Hidex modem to the host, you will need to create a Hidex modem record; otherwise, go to step 5. 2. Within Picture Perfect, select Devices, then Modems (if the Hidex selection is not an available option). Find the Hayes 9600 record. Click New, then Copy. Change the description to Hidex. 3. Change the Initialization and Deinitialization fields to read: ATE0X3V1&C1&D2S0=1S7=60&Q5&W 4. Click Save. 5. Select Devices, then Ports. Create the port to which this modem will be attached. 6. Set the Baud to 9600, Data bits to 8, Parity to None and Stop bits to 1. Assign Modem Type (Hidex) to this port. To configure the controller internal modem: 1. Select Devices, then Micros. Find the controllers that will communicate with this new modem. 2. Select Dial-Up, then Modem Type and choose the Hidex modem record that matches the Hidex. 3. Install the internal plug in modem on the controller, and then reset the controller. The PXNplus and DirecDoor controllers do not require dip switch settings for dial-up communications. Utilize the Integrated Configuration Tool (ICT) to set the required dial-up parameters. 2. Secure Perfect 6.1.1/FCWnx Secure Perfect 6.1.1/FCWnx The following modems are compatible with the Hidex Modems for Secure Perfect: PXNplus internal modem DirecDoor internal modem Host Modem Configuration To begin the installation: 1. Click Start, Settings, then Control Panel. 2. Double-click the Modems icon (Phone and Modem Options). 3. Select the Modems tab. 4. Click Add. The Install New Modem dialog displays. 5. Select Don t detect my modem; I will select it from a list. 6. Click Next. 7. Select Standard Modem Types from the Manufacturers list. 8. Select Standard 9600bps Modem from the Models list. 9. Click Next. 10. Select communications port. 11. Click Next. 12. Click Finish. 4 Hidex Modem Setup Instructions
Secure Perfect 6.1.1/FCWnx To set the properties: 1. In the Modems tab, select Standard 9600 bps modem. 2. Select Properties. 3. For Windows XP, on the Modem tab, select the following: Maximum Port Speed 9600 To configure at 4800, select Maximum Port Speed 4800 To configure at 2400, select Maximum Port Speed - 2400 4. For Windows 2000, on the General tab, select the following: Maximum Port Speed 9600 To configure at 4800, select Maximum Port Speed 4800 To configure at 2400, select Maximum Port Speed - 2400 5. Select the Advanced tab. 6. In the Advanced window, under Extra Initialization Commands, enter ATE0X3V1&C1&D2S7=60&Q5&W. 7. Click Change Default Parameters, then select the Advanced tab. Secure Perfect 6.1.1/FCWnx Controller Modem Configuration To configure the PXNplus/DirecDoor controllers internal modem when using a Hidex modem at the host: The host phone number(s), the controller address, and modem initialization/deinitialization strings must be programmed into the parameter block of the controller using the Integrated Configuration Tool (ICT). Attach the controller to the modem, and then reset the controller.
