Final Asia/Pacific Semiconductor Share by Geographical Area (Executive Summary) Overview After a gloomy year in, the semiconductor market in Asia/Pacific experienced impressive growth. Gartner Dataquest's final market share analysis shows that the Asia/Pacific market grew 26.2 percent to achieve revenue of $55.2 billion. Asia/Pacific as a region recorded the highest growth in terms of revenue and became largest semiconductor market in the world in. Thanks to the continued shifts of electronic equipment production as well as the reallocation of vendor billings, all geographic markets within Asia/ Pacific demonstrated positive double-digit growth. China/Hong Kong was the largest and fastest-growing market in Asia/Pacific. China opened up its markets and continued to provide attractive investment incentives to the electronics industry. However, the rise of China as an electronics powerhouse among the global players has threatened many Southeast Asian countries, particularly Malaysia and the Philippines. The economic instability and terrorist threats in Indonesia has also caused the Southeast Asia to suffer. Because Singapore has significant re-export business with these countries, semiconductor shipment to Singapore was greatly affected. Tables 1 through 4 show market share data for the top 10 vendors in four geographical areas of Asia/Pacific in. Final Asia/Pacific Semiconductor Share by Geographical Area (Executive Summary) 3 Table 4 Top 10 Companies' From Shipments of Total Semiconductors to Taiwan in (Millions of Dollars) Company Segmentation and Definitions Share Methodology - A detailed explanation of device segmentation and related definitions is contained in "Worldwide Semiconductor Device Definitions Guide, 2003," SEMC- WW-GU-0007. Gartner Dataquest implemented a new set of definitions in. These new definitions help to better define semiconductor markets, specifically those designated as application-specific device categories. In addition to this new family of categories, Gartner Dataquest added new sensor categories and redefined general-purpose analog and general-purpose digital signal processor. The detailed information on the semiconductor market compiled in our Statistics document includes the following: Asia/Pacific market share estimates for and by geographical area Asia/Pacific market share rankings for and by geographical area Totals include 40 semiconductor companies' revenue to Asia/Pacific region. The total Asia/Pacific market in was US$55.2 billion and included many more than those 40 companies. Gartner Dataquest tracked the 40 worldwide companies' revenue from shipments of total semiconductors to Asia/Pacific for the annual Asia/Pacific market share study by geographical area. Primary and secondary research is used to produce market statistics data.
