General Notes MDA 8 preview SP3 is a service pack of the new measure data analysis tool from ETAS, the successor of MDA V7.x This new version combines high performance, and user-friendly operation concepts Installation of MDA 8 preview includes MCD Core* and DirectX9, and requires 64 bit Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 State-of-the-art technology are used, like Windows ribbon concept, or docking window mechanism, i.e. objects can be positioned at any desired place using drag & drop via the title bar Some GUI elements provide the auto-hide pin * Note: MCD Core is a base component for ETAS tools used in the background for high performance data handling 3
Ribbon: Quickly get access to frequently used functionalities Functionality is structured in ribbons, namely for Configuration, View and Help For an efficient usage of the available space the ribbon can be set to auto-hide Outlook Further icons and ribbons will be added according to the implementation progress Quick Access Toolbar to access functionality without need to expand a ribbon 4
File Explorer: Manage your files in a clearly arranged way Hierarchical view to manage configurations and their respective measure files A configuration contains a selection of signals and how these are represented; the actual data for signal representation comes from the measure file(s) assigned to the configuration Measure files assigned to a configuration appear as sub-elements of the configuration entry From File Explorer removing, replacing and exporting of measure file(s) can be done 5
File Explorer: Entry point for measure file handling When removing a measure file, the signals assigned to instruments remain as placeholders within the configuration until measure data is available again With a replacement of a measure file an automatic signal mapping is performed, signals having the same name except the file name and file path are handled as perfect match Any signal(s) not matching perfectly remain in the configuration, but without data displayed (so-called no match case) Using Export Measure Data allows to create a new measure file*, including any mdf file format conversions A progress view provides information about the export process * Note: Export is currently supporting numeric signals only 6
Signal Explorer: Experience the new performance Tabular view for selection of signals showing signal name and meta data To shrink the list of signals to the relevant ones, filtering is done via: Search field for signal name Funnel icon of the respective column header (e.g. ) Icon to filter used and not used signals Columns can be reordered and hidden Columns at left can be excluded from scrolling ( Freeze ) Signals are assigned to an instrument simply via drag & drop onto a layer, or into an existing instrument Outlook Support of further data types, e.g. Events Support of *.lab files 7
Configuration: Manage even complex display and analysis tasks A configuration is the central working place for the display and analysis of measure data Layers, instruments and signals assigned to instruments are part of a configuration Measure files are linked to configurations Within one MDA session several configurations can be opened in parallel Unsaved changes to a configuration are indicated by a star Import of existing *.xda files into an MDA 8 configuration (oscilloscope only) For each imported xda file a new layer is created Outlook Import of existing *.xda files into an MDA 8 configuration to include table * Note: MDA 8 configurations (*.xdx) can not be converted back to MDA V7.x (*.xda) 8
Instrument and Time Slider: Display relevant information quickly At the bottom of an instrument a time slider is shown for an overview of the complete time range of all measure files assigned to the present configuration Time slider allows quick navigation through measure data and time range Scrolling, zooming* and synchronization of instruments are supported In case of deep zooming the mode switches automatically into Magnifier mode, i.e. the visual range is represented on a magnified scale for better orientation For quick navigation in the magnifier mode, scrolling of the magnified scale is enabled Show/Hide behavior of time slider can be defined within the options dialog * Note: For symmetric zooming use the left mouse button plus CTRL key 9
Oscilloscope: One instrument for several views The oscilloscope of MDA 8 preview offers a similar functionality as the one in INCA V7.1 Strips for analog or digital signals An analog strip can display several signals Analog signals can share the same axis or choose individual axis Most functionality is accessible via mouse, like drag & drop of signals, scrolling* and zooming* of the axes An icon bar for frequently used activities like zoom-to-fit, zooming behavior, cursors, or printing / saving of a screenshot is provided * Note: Scrolling of value or time axis is done using the left mouse button, plus CTRL key for zooming 10
Instrument Box: Get an overview of all possible instruments Initially two instrument type will be shipped with MDA 8, namely the same oscilloscope as in INCA V7.1 and a simple table* representation Outlook Functional enhancements for table instrument With future versions further instrument types will be provided by ETAS, like a statistics instrument Access to meta information about the instrument via Instrument Box In future an open interface will allow integration of customer instruments which will be listed here as well * Note: Limited functionality, like showing always constantly (step) interpolated values, and not samples. Synchronization of instruments not supported. No drag & drop of signal(s) from table instrument. 11
Configuration Manager: Get an overview of your configuration The Configuration Manager provides a hierarchical representation of the configuration, i.e. layers, instruments, and signals Search functionality for all objects within the configuration Drag & drop of instruments or signals within one configuration Renaming and removing of objects Outlook Copy & Paste of instruments and layers Icon bar for further functionality, like filtering, adding layers or instruments, 12
Layer Preview: Navigate quickly between different instruments In the task bar of each layer a symbol appears for each instrument type (e.g. oscilloscope) Via the icon a live preview can be opened, which allows to identify and to navigate quickly between diverse instruments The currently active instrument is highlighted in yellow Clicking onto an instrument preview brings it to the front and into the visible area Outlook Short cut keys to navigate between instruments and layers 13
New easy-to-use calculated signals management Calculated Signals enable to derive information which is not accessible directly in the recorded measure data A new user-friendly Calculated Signals Editor supports easy-to-read and -to-understand formulas Only very few steps needed to define a new calculated signal, and to use it instantly like any other signal High-performance of the underlying calculation engine Outlook Duplicate or edit an existing calculated signal within a configuration Support of functions, e.g. gradient, average, 14
Additional Functionality Command Line Tool for data conversion and extraction Together with MDA 8 a mdfconvert.exe tool is installed, which can be used independently from MDA 8 for format conversion and extraction of subsets of signals mdfconvert.exe can be easily integrated into scripting solutions Any *.mdf format is supported Outlook Support of further signal types* * Note: Currently only numeric signals is supported 15
