About (www.centrel-solutions.com/xialinks) is an easy to use, desktop application launcher which helps organisations manage their desktop shortcuts. Shortcuts are managed centrally and presented within a single application so they can easily be found and launched by users. Configure Multiple Possible Shortcut Locations In a large company, it is common to use Roaming Profiles or Group Policies to configure which Desktop Icons and Shortcuts are available for a user. However, there are limitations to this, for example, different PC's may have the same application installed in different locations or not installed at all. The effect of this is that users are presented with inaccessible or dead shortcuts. With, you remove this issue of Desktop Icon management as you can configure multiple possible application locations and automatically hide shortcuts to those that don't exist. Network Support allows you to create Links to Applications both locally and on the network, Web Sites and directories. Target Applications These Links can be configured to be available based on users and groups as well as the local computer name. Page 4 of 96

is split into 2 components: The main Server application which is installed onto an IIS Server. This stores the configuration of the links and maintains security. The Client which is the application accessed by end users. This presents each user with their available applications and shortcuts. Page 5 of 96

Installation The topics in this chapter describe the installation process. Download the latest installation package: https://www.centrel-solutions.com/xialinks/download.aspx Ensure you have an appropriate license file, or request a trial license. Check that the system you are installing on meets the requirements. Note: the prerequisites differ between the various operating systems. Perform the server installation. Perform the client installation. If you experience issues, refer to the troubleshooting articles. Page 6 of 96

Client Installation using Group Policy The Client is a standard Microsoft MSI installer and can therefore be deployed silently from systems such as Group Policy within Active Directory or other software distribution systems. Please see the appropriate software distribution system's documentation for further details. Install Silently The Client application can be installed silently using the following command line: msiexec /i xialinksclient.msi /qb Specify Shortcut Name To configure the name of the shortcut that is displayed on the desktop and start menu, use the SHORTCUT_NAME property - for example, to use the shortcut name "My Applications", use the following: msiexec /i setup.msi SHORTCUT_NAME="My Applications" /qb Page 32 of 96

Configuration using Group Policy The Client receives almost all configuration settings directly from the Server, however, it must initially be configured with the Server URL. This configuration can be automated across Clients using Group Policy. Group Policy Overview Group Policy is a Microsoft technology to allow the configuration of Microsoft Windows Client machines from Active Directory. Before proceeding with this section, you must have a complete understanding of Microsoft Group Policy Objects. Note: Any settings you configure in Group Policy will override the local settings configured within the user interface. Page 33 of 96

Configuring the Client with Group Policy The XIALinks.adm file contains the settings that can be configured using group policy. Open the appropriate Group Policy Object that you wish to configure. Right click Administrative Templates under Computer Configuration and select Add/Remove Templates... Page 34 of 96

Click Add then browse to the XIALinks.adm file (by default C:\inetpub\wwwroot\XIALinks\GroupPolicy\GroupPolicy): Close the Add/Remove Templates window then expand Administrative Templates > Classic Administrative Templates (ADM) > CENTREL Solutions > : You can now modify settings such as Configure the XIA Server Address. Page 35 of 96

Configure the XIA Server Address The Server URL can be configured automatically across all Clients using group policy. Ensure you have added the XIALinks.adm file to group policy. Open the appropriate Group Policy Object then expand Administrative Templates > Classic Administrative Templates (ADM) > CENTREL Solutions >. Double click Configure the XIA Server Address. Select Enabled. Enter the appropriate Server address (for example http://localhost/xialinks): Page 36 of 96

Disable the close [X] button The close button and ALT-F4 commands can be disabled on the main form of the Client using group policy. This helps to ensure that users do not accidentally close. Ensure you have added the XIALinks.adm file to group policy. Open the appropriate Group Policy Object then expand Administrative Templates > Classic Administrative Templates (ADM) > CENTREL Solutions >. Double click Disable the close [X] button. Select Enabled. Note: It is still possible to exit the Client using the File > Exit menu item. Page 37 of 96

Enable drag and drop to the client device You can enable applications to be dragged and dropped from the Client to the client device using group policy. Ensure you have added the XIALinks.adm file to group policy. Open the appropriate Group Policy Object then expand Administrative Templates > Classic Administrative Templates (ADM) > CENTREL Solutions >. Double click Enable drag and drop to the client device. Select Enabled: Page 38 of 96

Enable Offline Mode You can enable the Client to be used without a permanent connection to the Server using group policy. Ensure you have added the XIALinks.adm file to group policy. Open the appropriate Group Policy Object then expand Administrative Templates > Classic Administrative Templates (ADM) > CENTREL Solutions >. Double click Enable Offline Mode. Select Enabled: Page 39 of 96

Administration The topics in this chapter provide information on the day to day administration of such as adding, removing and editing Web Sites and Applications for users. Page 40 of 96

XIA Administrators To modify the configuration, you must be a XIA Administrator. By default, any member of the local Administrators groups on the server running is automatically a XIA Administrator. To make additional users or groups a XIA Administrator, add them to a local group on the server called XIALinks_Admins: Adding the required domain or local user or groups to the membership of this group will grant those users or groups XIA Administrator rights. Page 41 of 96

Managing Applications uses the word "Applications" to describe any link created within the system whether it is a Windows Application, Web Site Link, Directory or file that is opened with another application. You create an Application within and assign it the appropriate properties. Wizards are also available to create Applications to simplify the process for administrators. Page 42 of 96

The command line parameters to pass to the repair application, for example "/repair". A list of users (one per line) that are permitted to use the repair function. Note: You can also enter groups (e.g. Everyone) in this field. Page 57 of 96

Audience The Audience tab allows XIA Administrators to configure which Local or Active Directory Users, Groups or Computers can see this Application within the Client. By default, 'Everyone' is allowed to see any given Application. Remove Target To Remove an Audience entry, right click the entry and select Remove Target Add Target To Add an Entry, right click the list and select either Add User / Group Target or Add Machine Target as required entering the User/Group or Machine Name. You may either Allow or Deny the Application to this User, Group or Machine. Note: Deny rules override allow rules so if a User, Group or Machine has a matching Allow rule but also a matching Deny rule they will not be given access to the Application. The Server carries out the Audience Checks therefore the Server must be able to resolve Client IP Addresses to Computer Names. XIA Admins are always allocated all Applications regardless of the Audience rules. Page 58 of 96

Network Targeting In addition to being able to target to specific groups and workstations, it is also possible to limit applications to specific IP subnets. By default, applications can be seen on all workstations regardless of their IP address. By selecting Display only to workstations in these networks, it is possible to enter one or more subnets that the remote machine must reside in for the application to be shown. Note: When using specific networks, the application must meet both a user or group target in addition to being in a specified network to be displayed. The application is presented to the Client which checks all IPv4 addresses assigned to the local workstation. XIA Admins will see all applications regardless of network targeting rules. Page 59 of 96

Display Section Show this Application on the Home Page Use Standard Icon for this File Use the Following Icon Allows you to specify which Section this Application should be assigned to. If selected, this Application will be pinned to the Home Page of the XIA Links Client allowing users to select this Application regardless of which Section they are currently viewing. By default, assigns a built-in Web Icon for Web Sites, a built-in Folder Icon for Directories and, for all other files, will attempt to extract the icon from the Application as it is displayed by Windows. This option allows you to specify an icon to use for this Application. Once selected, you may browse for, or enter a path to, a valid.ico file. You may preview this by selecting the Preview Icon link. Note: The icon file should be available to all machines accessing this Application so should either be in the same location on all machines or located within a shared network location. Should the Icon file not be found by the Client, a "Generic Application" default icon will be used. Page 60 of 96

Directory Settings This tab is only shown when using the 'Windows Directory' Application Type. Directory path Allows you to enter, or browse for, the Directory you wish to add. Page 61 of 96

Web Site Settings This tab is only shown when using the 'Web Site' Application Type. Web Site URL Allows you to enter the Web Site URL to display. This URL must be in the format http://address, https://address, ftp://address, mailto:address. Page 62 of 96

Other Application Tasks Other Applications tasks available are: Deleting an Application Duplicating an Application Starting an Application Move an Application to another Section Copy permissions Page 63 of 96

Pinning Application to the Home Page Overview By default, users select a section within the Client to view the Applications within that Section. If you would like an Application to be visible at all times, regardless of what section the user is currently viewing, you can pin applications to the home page. Example In the screenshot below, the "My Home" directory (which is a shared drive) has been pinned to the Home Page so it can easily be accessed by all users. Providing this Application is available to the user (and can be located by the Client), it will show in the bottom left hand panel in the main view as well as the Section it originates from: Page 69 of 96

Pinning an Application to the Home Page To pin an Application to the Home Page, go to the properties of an Application and select the Display tab. Tick the Show this Application on the Home Page checkbox: Un-pinning an Application from the Home Page To Un-pin an Application right click the Application on the Home Page and click "Unpin this Application". Alternatively, select an existing Application, edit its properties and select the Display tab. From here, uncheck the Show this Application on the Home Page checkbox. Page 70 of 96

Section Appearance Section Title Image The Section Title Images drop down allows you to select an image that is shown within the Client when the user selects this Section. There are several predefined images included. You may add your own Section images. Page 74 of 96

Add your own Section images You can add your own images to the Section Title Images drop down. Create your images as JPEG Ensure they are 1600 x 52 pixels in size Copy the Images into the directory on the Server (by default C:\inetpub\wwwroot\XIALinks\images\section) Page 75 of 96

Deleting a Section Note: Before you can delete a Section, you must either delete all Applications within it or reassign those Applications to another Section. Right click on the Section within the Menu Tree and select Delete Section: Page 76 of 96

Nesting Sections It is possible to nest sections within other sections to organise and make it easier to find applications and links. To nest sections, logon as an Administrator and drag and drop a section within another section. Once a section is nested, to return it to the root of the tree, drag and drop that section onto My Applications. Page 77 of 96

Configure the Home Page When running the Client as an administrator, it is possible to configure the home page and some elements of the user interface. Press the Configure the Home Page link on the Client home page: Note: This link is not displayed to non-administrators. Note: Settings configured within this section are applied to every Client that connects to this server. Page 78 of 96

Home Page Settings - General Settings tab Home Page Title Configures the bold text displayed on the home page. Home Page Notes Configures the additional text that is displayed on the home page below the home page title. Title Bar Text Configures the text displayed in the main windows title bar, status bar and also on the Windows taskbar. Default Section When the Client starts, by default, the home page will be displayed including the welcome text and branding. This setting allows you to configure the default section that will be shown at startup. If a default section is configured which is subsequently deleted, the home page will be shown and an error will be logged. Page 79 of 96

Home Page Settings - Advanced tab Form height and width Allows the configuration of the default height and width of the main Client application window at startup. Show All Applications Section Configures whether the All Applications section should be automatically displayed in the treeview. Note: Administrators are always able to see the All Applications section. Show Help Menu and Links By default, the Client will show a Help item on the drop-down menu and also an action point for "Learn more about " on the home page. By unchecking this box, both the menu and action point will be removed from users. Note: XIA Admins will always see these items. Allow viewing of applications not found on this machine By default, all users are allowed to select "View applications not found on this machine" on the View menu. This shows the missing applications in the appropriate section with a light red background. By checking this option, the menu item will not be displayed to users. Page 80 of 96

Note: XIA Admins will always see this menu item. Expand all sections on startup When using nested sections, selecting this option will ensure that all sections in the tree are expanded and visible at startup. Page 81 of 96

Offline Mode operates by querying configuration information from the Server using standard web services. Should your organisation need to use without a permanent connection to the server, you can do so by enabling Offline Mode. To enable this mode, you need to edit Group Policy for the required machines and modify the setting Enable Offline Mode. When Offline Mode is enabled and a user accesses, the configuration settings and applications are cached within the user's temp directory. Should the user attempt to access XIA Links again from the same machine when the Server is unavailable, the applications and settings will be loaded from the cached files. Files are stored in %TEMP%\XIALinks as zipped XML files. The files are RSA signed for tamper resistance. When running in Offline mode, the text [Offline] is displayed in the title bar: When running in Offline mode, custom section images are not displayed. Page 82 of 96

Storage Space As the configuration files are compressed, the storage required is approximately 22Kb when there are 500 applications configured for a user. Offline cache files are stored per user and per machine. Page 83 of 96

Drag and drop to the client device It is possible to drag and drop applications from the Client to the client device: To drag and drop applications to the client machine, the option to drag and drop must be enabled in Group Policy. In addition to the Group Policy settings, each individual application can be enabled or disabled for drag and drop within the Application Settings Tab of the Advanced Application Properties. Multiple applications can be dragged from the Client to the client device, however, each application must have a unique name. Note: Multiple applications can't be dragged if any of the selected applications are disabled for drag and drop. The system will automatically configure the icon, application location and window style settings as appropriate. Page 84 of 96

Licensing requires a valid license for the system to be functional. Licences are installed on the XIA Links Server and validate the access of the Clients. For more information please contact sales@centrel-solutions.com Page 85 of 96

Managing Licenses Installing Licenses The Client checks your licenses when the application is run and, if you are a XIA Admin, prompts you to manage your licenses when you connect to the Server for the first time. License Management Tool Once is licensed, you are permitted for its use within the terms of the End User License Agreement (EULA). If you are using a Time Limited Trial License, you will find that after the Time Period has expired, will cease to function. Should you find that your Trial Period has expired or you wish to view the License configuration of your Server Instance: Logon to a machine with the Client installed as a user account with the XIA Admin role. Open the Client. (Note: You may need to right click and Run as Administrator). Select Tools > Licences. Here you can view the Licences currently installed on the Server this Client is connected to. You may find that there are many Licences available some of which are not valid. This is not an issue as long as there is at least one Licence that is valid for your installation. At the top of this screen will be a message indicating whether or not this installation is licenced. Uploading a License File Open the Licence Management Tool (described above). Select Upload Licence File (Note: This will replace any existing License File on the Server). Browse to the licence file. You will be informed if there is an issue with the license file. At the top of this screen will be a message which indicates whether or not this installation is now licensed. Page 86 of 96
