RDM+ Remote Desktop for Mobiles For ipad Getting Started Guide RDM+ (Remote Desktop for Mobiles) is a communication tool that gives you the unique ability to connect to your desktop computer through ipad and interact with it remotely. With RDM+ you can not only observe the remote desktop on your mobile device but perform different usual keyboard and mouse commands. RDM+ software consists of two components: the desktop part and the client module. 1. The desktop part (RDM+ Desktop) should be installed on the remote computer. 2. The client module (RDM+ Client for ipad). 1. Computer list There is a computer list where you can save all computers you are going to control remotely. At first start the computer list is empty. Tap plus (+) button to add a new computer to the computer list. In the new computer dialog you should enter the computer number which you received at registration on RDM+ Online Service while installing the RDM+ Desktop. Then you need to fill in your account (account name and password) which you created in RDM+ Desktop. These three fields are mandatory. Note: The account name is case insensitive, but the password is case sensitive! 1

You may store the password to your computer in your computer list or you can turn Ask password when connecting toggle switch on and enter the password before every connection. If your ipad and the computer are in the local network, RDM+ on ipad will find the computer with RDM+ Desktop automatically through Bonjour service by Apple. (Bonjour should be running on the computer.) The list of the computers found will be shown in a popover if you tap Computers found button in the top right corner of the screen. Tap on the computer in the list and its number and name will be filled out automatically. You ll need to enter account only. Computer name will help you to find the computer in your computer list. If the name field remains unfilled only the computer number will be displayed. If you want to connect to some computer right after the application launches omitting the computer list you should turn Autoconnect on. Select the computer from your computer list and tap the computer screen to connect to it. You can use the round button under the computer display as well. If you connect to the computer successfully, the remote desktop will be shown. You can also control the computer using your ipad as a touchpad. Please read more in the Touchpad section. 2. Remote desktop control Mouse control You can position a mouse cursor in two ways. The arrow shows the mouse position on the remote computer. 1. You point the position of a mouse cursor when you touch the screen. A single tap is a left mouse click and double tap is a double click on a remote computer. It works just like you used to control your computer with a mouse. 2. To position the mouse, use a touchpad on the bottom of the screen. The touchpad works like a real touchpad on a laptop. After you point the object with the mouse you can tap or double tap at any spot of the touchpad to send click or double click correspondingly. To send right click you should tap with two fingers in any mouse control mode. To drag and drop an object you should point it with a mouse, double tap and hold your finger to grab it and then tap where you want to drop the object. Control buttons Back Tap this button to get back to the computer list without severing the connection. Fast zoom You can zoom in or out in one touch. Show/Hide keyboard You can enter the text that will be transferred to remote computer just like you enter it from a keyboard. Show/Hide display map Use display map to change monitors in a multiple display computer configuration. Show/Hide multimedia pad You can use the multimedia pad for quick control of your multimedia players and picture viewers. Show/Hide touchpad You can hide a touchpad when you don t need it. 2

Keyboard and text editing To sent any text or key combinations (shortcuts) you should use a keyboard. To open the keyboard tap Show/Hide keyboard button. If you turn a buffering mode ON by pressing the button abc_ (on the left top corner of a keyboard) all keystrokes will be accumulated until you press Send button. All keystrokes are shown in the buffer placed above the keyboard. To turn the buffering mode OFF press the buffering mode button again. 3

To send any key combination use modifier keys on top of the keyboard. You may also find many useful keys if you change a keyboard layout by tapping the button Multiple displays support If you connect to the computer with several displays you ll see the Show/Hide display map button. Tap the preview of any monitor on the display map to change the monitor. Multimedia pad Use the multimedia pad to control your multimedia players and picture viewers like Windows Media Player and itunes. Note: On Windows-based computer you can control Windows Media Player, itunes, Winamp, VLC, QuickTime, ACDSee and Picasa. On the computer running Mac OS you can control Front row, itunes, QuickTime, VLC, DVD Player, MPlayer, Picasa and Preview. The left top key on the multimedia pad launches Front Row on your remote Mac or Windows Media Player on a Windows-based computer. 4

Scrolling the windows You can scroll the window that is in focus on the remote computer by moving two fingers up and down or left and right. If you want to scroll down the document quickly, zoom out first and the scroll down. Note: Vertical scrolling is supported on all remote computers. Horizontal scrolling works on computers running Mac OS and Windows Vista (with RDM+ Desktop for Windows v. 3.8 and higher). Zoom in and out by pinching your fingers together and apart. 3. Touchpad You can use RDM+ on your ipad as a big touchpad or a remote while sitting on the couch. Tap a round button to start Touchpad mode. Note: Touchpad works if the ipad and the computer are in the same local network. Keyboard and multimedia pad are available in the Touchpad mode. 5

4. Shutdown commands You can easily send shut down, restart or log off command to the computer without loading remote desktop image. Tap a round button and select the command form the menu. 6
