Introduction This document provides information about the Nolij Web system architecture and server and client requirements. See these topics for more information: System Architecture on page 4. Server Requirements on page 5. Client Requirements on page 7. System Architecture Nolij Web comprises the Nolij Web Server component (server) and the Nolij Web Client component (client). The client is a combination of JavaScript (AJAX), Java applets, and HTML. It communicates, over a secure HTTP channel, to the backend server, which is a Java web application running in an Apache Tomcat container. Communication from the client to the server is protected with channel encryption and with a generic authentication layer; this layer supports a variety of pluggable authentication protocols and services. The security layer wraps all actions that the clients request from the sever. The server communicates to its own database and to other enterprise databases through an abstraction layer. The server also stores data to and directly retrieves data from the document storage area. The document storage area may be network-attached storage, or it may reside on the server. Figure 1: Nolij Web System Architecture Nolij Web is installed on a server. Users access Nolij Web through a browser; no software installation on client computers is necessary. Server Requirements Your server must meet the following minimum requirements so that you can install and administer Nolij Web. One or more 64-bit processors running at 3 GHz with four total cores (eight total cores recommended). 5 GB. Note This value does not include requirements for document storage. Support may not be available for the subsequent versions of the product. Databases The following databases are supported: Oracle Database 8i, 9i, 10g, or 11g or 12c. Microsoft SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008, or 2012. IBM Informix. IBM DB2. Application sserver Tomcat Apache 6.x, 7.x, or 8.x Note Support for Java 6 and Tomcat 6 is deprecated from the 6.8.24 version of the product. Support may not be available for the subsequent versions of the product. After you install the Tomcat server, you must increase the default memory values. You can specify the memory values by configuring a system-wide environment variable, such as JAVA_OPTS. Set the minimum memory to 512 MB, the maximum memory to 8192 MB, and permanent generation size to 256 MB. For example: JAVA_OPTS="-Xms8192m -Xmx8192m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m If you are using a headless implementation on a Linux, Solaris, or UNIX system, add the following parameter to the JAVA_OPTS environment variable: -Djava.awt.headless=true Perceptive Nolij Web Technical Specifications Page 6 of 8
Client Requirements Client computers must meet the following minimum requirements so that users can use Nolij Web. Client IBM PowerPC G3 running MAC OS X version 10.4 or later. Computer with Intel Pentium 1 GHz processor running Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Linux. Monitor XGA resolution 1024 x 768 or greater. A monitor with SXGA resolution 1280 x 1024 or WXGA resolution 1440 x 900 is recommended. Browser requirements Works best with IE. File system browser works with IE 10 and above, Firefox, and Google Chrome. Scan works best with Google Chrome. Note You must enable cookies and allow popups in your browser. Integration Server Requirements If you are integrating Nolij Web with ImageNow, Integration Server 6.7 or higher is required. Document Scanning and Uploading Requirements The following are the prerequisites for client computers used for volume scanning and upload. Either JRE version 1.6.0_18 or later, 1.7, or 1.8.0_51 is required if users scan documents or drag and drop files in the Nolij Web panels. To download it, go to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/ java-archive-javase8-2177648.html. 512 MB minimum memory, with 256 MB dedicated to the browser running Nolij Web. 2.6 GHz processor or greater for large volume scanning or uploading. OCR Requirements A minimum resolution of 200 dpi is required for OCR; 240 dpi is recommended. Configuring Security Settings in Internet Explorer For users to import reports in Microsoft Excel or plain text format when they run Nolij Web in Internet Explorer, you must change the security settings for file downloads. 1. In Internet Explorer, select Tools > Internet Options... The Internet Options dialog box appears. 2. Click the Security tab. 3. Click the Custom Level... button. The Security Settings dialog box appears. 4. Navigate to the Downloads > Automatic prompting for file downloads option. 5. Click Enable. A dialog box appears, prompting you to confirm that you want to change the security settings. 6. Click Yes to confirm and to close the dialog box. 7. In the Internet Options dialog box, click OK to save your changes and close the dialog box. Additional Scanners Supported for Scanning with a Mac Nolij Web supports scanners that directly support TWAIN, such as Xerox Document 632, and also supports a wide range of inexpensive scanners using the free TWAIN-SANE bridge available at http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/.
