Scope: This manual is applicable to the PCD probe series with firmware version V1.x. The low-order digit of the firmware version stands for minor changes, e.g. correction of errors that do not influence the main functionality of the device. 1 Overview The PCD probe series is based on digital AirChip4000 technology. The probes have a UART interface. The PCD probe series is developed for use with all RMS data loggers. Compatible from firmware version RMS-LOG- 868 ( V1.5) and RMS-LOG-L ( V1.4). The PCD can be operated independently using the digital protocols, for example for integration into OEM applications. The following functions are available via the digital interface: o Change device settings o Differential pressure adjustment o Simulator mode With the firmware update for the PCD, it is possible at any time to enable the latest PCD functions, even on older devices. 1.1 Hardware and software compatibility The PCD is compatible only with RMS-generation devices. To change the PCD device configuration, the RMS- CONFIG software is required. 2016 ROTRONIC AG Bassersdorf Switzerland Page 3 of 19

Variants The PCD comes in two variants. Variant 1: Thermal mass flow measurement principle (order code: PCD-S-Fxx) In this measurement technique, a heating element is placed between two temperature sensitive resistors. Due to a gas flow, the temperature profile is moved towards one of the resistors, which can be measured and evaluated. Sensor features: o 0 point compensation integrated. o Temperature compensation integrated. o Ambient pressure compensation (pressure sensor within the probe). Variant 2: Membrane measurement principle (order code: PCD-S-Mxx) In this measurement technique, the pressure is converted into a force, which stretches a diaphragm and is measured by a piezo-resistive MEMS membrane sensor. Sensor features: o Sensor adjustment required after installation. o Temperature compensation integrated. o Ambient pressure compensation not necessary. The PCD can be connected directly to a PC or network. Suitable accessories can be found in the E-M-HC2- accessories manual. 3 General information 3.1 Power supply The clip is created to be used directly connected to and powered by a RMS LAN Logger. Alternative a AC3001 (3.3V or 5.5V) can be used. 3.2 Measured parameters The PCD measures differential pressure. 3.3 Digital interface The PCD probe has a UART interface, via which the probe can be addressed directly using the MODBUS protocol. To connect the probe to a PC, an AC3001 service cable is required (E-M-HC2-accessories). Using the ROTRONIC RMS-CONFIG software, the following functions are available via the UART interface. o Read out measurements o Probe information: name, serial number, calibration and adjustment information, etc. o Probe calibration and adjustment o Configuration o Firmware update 3.4 Communication protocol The probe can be addressed directly using the MODBUS protocol, to request the measured CO2 values. The parameters highlighted in yellow should be selected according to the table below. Command: (MSB first) Probe address Command ID Start address Number records 0x00 0x04 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x0000 of MODBUS-CRC 1 Probe address: 0 255, if '0' then all probes respond regardless of the address. 4 User settings The probe is supplied with the factory configuration as described in section 4.2. Users can change this configuration as required. The probe also offers various functions which are described briefly here. 4.1 Function overview Calibration Functions Description o 1-point or up to 9-point differential pressure adjustment/calibration o Reset to the factory adjustment Differential pressure adjustment Note 1: 0 point correction. The 0 point correction is required for all membrane sensors, correction drift and system deviations. The correction is to be carried out after installation. In order to carry out the 0 point adjustment, the external pressure connectors are linked together with a short tube, creating a 0Pa differential pressure when no pressure is applied to the tube. The 1 point calibration and adjustment can then be carried out via the RMS-CONFIG or the RMS-WEB/CLD software. Simulator mode Filter Note 2: The data acquisition need to be executed in real time. Meaning that the pressure acquired must be applied at the same moment. Calibration values (e. g. a calibration table with index- and measured values done in a separate calibration procedure) cannot be used for a data acquisition at a later date. The reason is the missing pressure compensation data. Is used to output fixed values for differential pressure. The output value can be configured. The differential pressure probe has a low pass filter included to reduce noise on the measured value. Possible values are 0, 2, 4, 8, 16 (default). The value represents the number of measurements, which create the basis for the measurement filter (average calculation). This measurement and its average calculation is done within approximately 100 milliseconds. Due to the fast measurement, we advise to use the maximum filter of 16 (standard). The settings can only be configured via the RMS-CONFIG software and the AC3001 cable. 2016 ROTRONIC AG Bassersdorf Switzerland Page 9 of 19

Mechanical installation For best measurement results, observe the following points: o The membrane sensor requires a 0 point correction once installed. o The mass flow sensor carries out an automatic 0 point correction. 2016 ROTRONIC AG Bassersdorf Switzerland Page 11 of 19

Electrical installation Use Rotronic extension cables. These allow a maximum length of 5 m. 2016 ROTRONIC AG Bassersdorf Switzerland Page 12 of 19

Maintenance 7.1 Regular calibration PCD sensors have high long-term stability and do not require any additional calibration as supplied. The calibration period will depend on the customers standard operating procedures. Rotronic recommends a calibration every 12 months. Calibration or adjustment can be carried out using the RMS-CONFIG or RMS- CLD/WEB software. 2016 ROTRONIC AG Bassersdorf Switzerland Page 13 of 19

Firmware update Firmware updates are available to download from the ROTRONIC website. The AC3001 cable can be used to connect the PCD probe to a PC (see E-M-HC2-accessories). Firmware updates can be carried out using the RMS-CONFIG or RMS-WEB/CLD software. 2016 ROTRONIC AG Bassersdorf Switzerland Page 14 of 19
