Support viii IBM Maximo Integration Composer: Installation Guide

Integration Composer 1 Overview This chapter introduces you to the IBM Maximo Integration Composer, the IBM Corporation solution for migrating information technology (IT) asset data into Maximo. With the Integration Composer, enterprises can aggregate data collected by asset discovery tools and integrate it into Maximo, creating a central repository for enterprise IT asset management, reporting, and decision support. To gather deployed asset data, an asset discovery tool, such as IBM Tivoli Configuration Manager or Altiris Inventory Solution scans computers, network devices, and network printers deployed in an enterprise and records information about the hardware and software installed on those assets. The Integration Composer transforms the collected data and imports it into Maximo. You can view imported data in the following Maximo applications: Computers, Network Devices, and Network Printers. Maximo also uses data imported by the Integration Composer to generate various reports. Integration Composer Hardware/Software Requirements This section of the installation guide describes the version of Maximo supported by the Integration Composer and the hardware and software requirements for the application server and database server. It also lists the asset discovery tools supported by the Integration Composer. Maximo Version Supported Application Server You can use Integration Composer 6.2.1 with Maximo 6.2.1 or later. The Application Server, which runs the core Integration Composer application and Java components, supports the following operating systems:! Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 Server! Solaris 9 and Solaris 10! HP-UX 11i v1 and HP-UX 11i v2! IBM AIX 5.2 and 5.3! RedHat Linux 3 The Integration Composer has the following minimum requirements:! 2 GB (or more) memory! 70 MB or greater disk space! J2SE SDK 1.4.2_05 Copyright IBM Corp. 2007 1-1

Integration Composer Hardware/Software Requirements Database Server The customer is responsible for the Database Servers, which contain and manage the source database(s) and Maximo database. Refer to the appropriate vendor for hardware requirements. Maximo supports the following database platforms:! IBM DB2 Universal Database 8.2.7! Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Service Pack 4! Microsoft SQL Server 2005! Oracle 9.2.06! Oracle 10.1.0.3 or 10.2.0.1 (either Oracle Standard or Enterprise) NOTE Oracle 10.2.0.1 requires Maximo patch 3 or higher. Asset Discovery Tools To facilitate data migration, IBM Corporation offers optional IBM Maximo integration adapters to convert and migrate data provided by the most commonly used asset and systems management tools, such as IBM Tivoli Configuration Manager. The adapters provide pre-defined mapping expressions that let you transform data and transfer it from a database created by an asset discovery tool into the Maximo database. You can import an adapter s mapping into the Integration Composer and, with little or no additional programming, execute a mapping to import data into Maximo. Asset Discovery Tools Supported The following table lists platform and driver requirements for the asset discovery tools supported by the Integration Composer. Asset Discovery Tool Database Platform Drivers Altiris Inventory Solution 5.5, 6.0 SQL Server JDBC Centennial Discovery 4.5, 4.51, 4.52, 4.53, 2005 SQL Server JDBC HP Configuration Management (CM) Inventory Manager (formerly HP Inventory Manager using Radia ) IBM Tivoli Configuration Manager 4.0, 4.2 SQL Server Oracle Oracle DB2 JDBC Oracle JDBC Thin Oracle JDBC Thin DB2 JDBC Maximo Discovery 4.5, 4.51, 4.52, 2005 SQL Server JDBC Maximo MainControl i.collect 4.3.2 SQL Server Oracle JDBC Oracle JDBC Thin Microsoft SMS 2.0, 2003 SQL Server JDBC The i-net OPTA JDBC driver for Microsoft SQL Server 7/2000 and 2005, the Oracle JDBC Thin driver, and the DB2 JDBC driver are installed with the Integration Composer. 1-2 IBM Maximo Integration Composer: Installation Guide

Integration Composer Components Integration Composer Components The Integration Composer integration tool includes the following components:! Integration Composer application! Integration Composer engine! JDBC drivers! Integration Composer repository Integration Composer Application Integration Composer Engine JDBC Drivers The Integration Composer application has a Windows-based graphical user interface (GUI) that lets you define data sources, browse data source data, define data schemas, and create mappings to transform and migrate data. The Integration Composer engine processes mapping expressions that transform data from the source data source and integrate it into a target data source. The Integration Composer uses JDBC drivers to establish connections between a source data source and a target data source. IBM Corporation provides the following JDBC drivers with the Integration Composer:! IBM DB2 JDBC driver.! i-net OPTA JDBC driver for Microsoft SQL Server 7/2000 and SQL Server 2005.! Oracle JDBC Thin driver. This driver supports Oracle 10g and earlier versions (including 8.0, 8i, and 9i). Integration Composer Repository The Integration Composer repository resides in the Maximo database and contains the following Integration Composer data:! Metadata for read-only data schemas delivered with the Integration Composer. This metadata defines the structure of the data.! Metadata for data schemas that users create in the Integration Composer.! Data source definitions that provide database connection parameters.! Mappings that define how to transform data and migrate it from a source to a target.! If a last scan time stamp exists, the Integration Composer stores the most recent last scan time stamp for every source IT asset in the Integration Composer repository.
