The Power of Social Mapping Insight Genesis allows you to create customized maps in 3 easy steps: Insight Genesis Quick Start Guide is a brief outline on how to create your first custom map and show you can see how easy it is to make it a part of your boating routine. You always have the best mapping possible to make the most of your time on the water. 1 Record Record a sonar log using your Lowrance chartplotter and save it to an m/sd card. 2 Upload Upload the sonar logs directly from your Wi-Fi enabled HDS unit or from the m/sd card via your computer to the Insight Genesis cloud service. 3 Use Use Custom and Social Maps in multiple ways. View the maps on your computer or tablet. Download directly to your Wi-Fi enabled HDS unit. Download to your computer for use on your Mark, Elite, or HDS chartplotter. 1 Record - HDS 1. Place a 2-32 gig SD card in your chartplotter 2. Wait for GPS lock or when speed or depth show a value 3. Select the Sonar page 4. Follow the prompts listed below Menu Frequency - Chose an option with 200 khz or High Chirp Log Sonar Start Logging (SD card has to be present) Red dot will flash periodically while sonar is recording To stop, repeat steps. Optimal Sonar Log Recording For the best possible maps please follow the following recommendations. If you need more detailed instructions on how to make the setting changes to your unit please refer to the Insight Genesis User Guide located on the Questions tab. Recommended Settings Save the log file to the MEMORY CARD Recommended Speeds - 10 MPH (8.69 knots or 16.09 kph) or slower for Vegetation/Bottom Hardness Maps - 20 MPH (17.38 knots or 32.19 kph) or slower for Contours Maps Maximum Speed = 20 mph (17.38 knots or 32.19 kph). No data will be displayed for the portions of the trip over 20 MPH. File Size - Files under 1 gig are recommended. You can do multiple files and merge them as needed. Frequency 200KHz, High Chirp or Log All Channels (Mandatory) For more detailed instruction please refer to the Insight Genesis User Guide Recording Track on the Water Minimum spacing should be based on size of water body: Size of the Body of Water Minimum Spacing <5 Acres 5 Meters / 15 Feet 5-10 Acres 10 Meters / 30 Feet 10-20 Acres 15 Meters / 45 Feet 20-30 Acres 20 Meters / 60 Feet >30 Acres 40 Meters / 120 Feet Apply a crisscross design if possible with one path looping the near shore area To assist track spacing and view progress, use the Lowrance, chartplotter Chart to view the path while on the water. 2 Upload Log in at http://www.insightgenesis.com and click on Log-In There are 3 options to upload sonar logs to Insight Genesis. 1 - Insight Genesis Web Upload Tool (PC/Mac) 2 - Insight Genesis Upload Tool (PC) 3 - Directly from a Wi-Fi enabled Lowrance HDS unit 8 Upload Insight Genesis Quick Start Guide
Upload Sonar Logs from Computer To upload your Sonar logs using either method, click on the Select Files button and then locate your sonar logs on your computer. Multiple files can be uploaded at the same time, by depressing the CTRL or SHIFT buttons, while selecting the files. Once the files have been selected, click on the Upload button and the Tools will do the rest. Upload Sonar Logs From Wi-Fi enabled Lowrance Chartplottert When you start to record a sonar log, select the upload to Insight Genesis option. When the chartplotter connects to the internet, the logs will automatically upload to Insight Genesis. Upload Insight Genesis Quick Start Guide 9
3 Use View Within 15-20 minutes after the upload is complete you should receive an e-mail from Insight Genesis notifying you that your map is ready to view. Click on the link in that e-mail and it will allow you to log-in and view your map. You will also see a progress notification in your Insight Genesis account as the map is being created. To view your map go the My Uploads tab, find the body of water and click View Trip Once your map is displayed, there are many different options. Data Offset - Adjust for high/low water levels and transducer placement. Merge Trips - Easily merge all trips on a water body into a single map. Trends - Provides weather data per trip for determine what weather conditions correlate to success. Map Generation - Create maps for use on the boat. Social Map - View the Social Map for that water body. Track - Red line that shows where the boat traveled on that trip (on/off ). Contours - Adjust Contour intervals (1, 3, 5, 10 foot) Layers - Display vegetation or bottom hardness layers (Premium feature) 10 Upload Insight Genesis Quick Start Guide
Download Map To create your customized map, click on the Map Generation tab and select your options. Target Device - Choose chartplotter the map should be encrypted. Device options are created in My Plotters. Include Layer - Contours, Vegetation or Bottom Hardness Vegetation/Bottom Hardness are Premium features Contour Interval - 1,3,5,10 foot interval options Then select Generate to start the map generation process. Within a few minutes the map will be ready. Follow prompts to Save the file to an m/sd card. Important: Before proceeding to the boat, open the m/sd card and double click on the file that was just created. This will unzip the files for the chartplotter to read. When the SD card is loaded into the unit, it will auto-recognize the Genesis map.
