Overview Downloading Library Ebooks to the Nook Downloading Library Ebooks to your Nook is divided into six major parts. The first two parts are only necessary for initial setup. Because the digital rights (permissions) on library ebooks for the Nook are managed through Adobe, you will need to create an Adobe ID and download and install an Adobe reading program on your computer before you can start putting library ebooks on your Nook. Part 1: Step A: Adobe ID Creation Navigate to www.adobe.com on your computer and select the Sign In link. Step B: Click on the Create an Adobe Account button. Page 2 of 23
Step C: Fill in the required fields (noted with a red asterisk). Page 3 of 23
Step D: Make sure all the boxes are Unchecked, so you don t get emails and calls from Adobe (unless you want them) and then click the Continue button. Page 4 of 23
Step E: Select your address and click the Continue button. Step F: Click the Continue button. This will bring you to your Adobe account page. Make a note of the password you just created and the email address you used. You will need it later. Page 5 of 23
Part 2: Step A: Adobe Digital Editions Installation Navigate to downloadable.jclc.org and click on Adobe Digital Editions for ebooks. Page 6 of 23
Step B: Click on Download Adobe Digital Editions. Step C: Click on Download now. Page 7 of 23
Step D: Click on Install. Step E: Click on Install again. Page 8 of 23
Step F: Click on Yes. Step G: Click on Next. Page 9 of 23
Step H: Click on Install. Step I: Wait for the installation to complete and then click on the Close button. Page 10 of 23
Step J: Click on the I Agree button when it appears. Step K: Wait for Adobe Digital Editions to open and then click on the Continue button. Page 11 of 23
Step L: Enter your Adobe ID (typically your email address that you used when you created your Adobe account) and your Adobe password and click the Activate button. Step M: Click on the Finished button. Congratulations! You have installed Adobe Digital Editions. Now you can move on to selecting an ebook for checkout. Page 12 of 23
Part 3: Step A: Ebook Selection On your computer, go to downloadable.jclc.org and click on Login. Step B: Enter your library card number (no spaces) and then click on Sign In. Page 13 of 23
Step C: Click on Advanced Search Step D: Select Adobe EPUB ebook format and any other criteria. If you want to find a book immediately, be sure to check the Only show titles with copies available box. Then click the Search button. Page 14 of 23
Part 3: Step A: Ebook Checkout Once you have browsed the available books and settled on one you want to borrow, click on the Add to Cart button next to the Adobe EPUB ebook icon. Step B: Select the Proceed to Checkout link. Page 15 of 23
Step C: Make sure you select the 21 day checkout Lending period, then click on Confirm Check Out. Step D: Click on the Download button. Page 16 of 23
Step E: Click on the Open button at the bottom of your browser when it appears. This process may be slightly different depending on which browser you use, but generally there will be an option at the bottom of your page to open a file this is what you want to do. Step F: Click on the library icon in Adobe Digital Editions when it opens. Page 17 of 23
Part 5: Step A: Ebook Transfer from Computer to Nook Connect your Nook to your computer using the Nook USB cable. Step B: Authorize your Nook with your Adobe ID. This should happen automatically when you press the Authorize Device button. Page 18 of 23
Step C: Click the Finished button. Step D: Your Nook will appear at the bottom of the left panel in Adobe Digital Editions. Page 19 of 23
Step E: Drag and drop the book from the Borrowed folder to the Nook folder in Adobe Digital Editions. Step F: Disconnect your Nook from your computer. Congratulations! You have transferred your library ebook to your Nook. Page 20 of 23
Part 6: Step A: Ebook Location on Nook Navigate to your Home screen on your Nook. Step B: Select the Library button. Page 21 of 23
Step C: Select My Files from the drop-down menu. Step D: Select the ebook you just downloaded to begin reading. Page 22 of 23
Returning Ebooks After 3 weeks, your ebook will expire, and you won t be able to read it anymore on your Nook. If you finish your ebook early, you can return it early on your computer using Adobe Digital Editions. Select the Borrowed folder and click on the small down arrow in the upper left corner of the book icon. Then select Return Borrowed Item. Select the Return button when prompted. The ebook will be returned and also disappear from Adobe Digital Editions. Page 23 of 23
