The features described in this data sheet are being progressively added to the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) during 2002/2003. Please contact Cardax for further information. Cardax FT Controller 5000 Cardax FT Controller 5000 The CardaxFT Controller 5000 is the intelligent field controller in the CardaxFT security system.

Introducing CardaxFT CardaxFT is a comprehensive Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP Professional based security system. It integrates access control and alarms management, intruder alarm monitoring, remote digital imaging, intercom communications and PhotoID badging. The system is very flexible, enabling it to meet the needs of small single sites right through to very large global enterprise-wide installations. It is a network-friendly system, designed to use minimum bandwidth. The system s communications, which are optionally encrypted, can utilise an organisation s existing LAN or WAN and is Internet compatible. The database component used is determined by the size of the system. Smaller systems use Microsoft MSDE. Larger systems use Microsoft SQL database. It is OPC (OLE for Process Control) enabled, conforming to the OPC Alarms and Events protocol. This facilitates the sharing of selected system information with other OPC enabled process control applications. The CardaxFT system includes: Cardax Command Centre FT CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) Cardax Readers CardaxFT Intelligent Door Terminal with optional Intercom CardaxFT Digital Camera A range of CardaxFT Input and Output Devices CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) Standard Configuration Up to 500 CardaxFT Controllers (5000 Series) Up to 5000 CardaxFT Field Devices Up to 50 Operator Workstations Up to 250 CardaxFT Digital Cameras Up to 16 CardaxFT field devices per CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) (Max 1 CardaxFT Digital Camera per CardaxFT Controller) Up to 500 CardaxFT Intelligent Door Terminals with digital Intercom Up to 4000 Cardax Door Readers CardaxFT can be configured to manage systems larger than the standard configuration. System performance is a function of system configuration and the volume of transactions being processed. Contact Cardax to discuss configuration options.

CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) Linking with the Cardax Command Centre FT, the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) integrates and controls CardaxFT field devices. CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) is a key component in the CardaxFT integrated security system. It is an intelligent controller incorporating a 32 bit Intel microprocessor. It makes all the access control decisions in the CardaxFT system. supports up to 16 CardaxFT field devices. The 16 CardaxFT field devices are comprised of: one CardaxFT Digital Camera and a combination of Cardax Intelligent Door Terminals, Relay Interfaces, I/O Interfaces, Universal Reader Interfaces, Reader I/O Interfaces and Strike Controllers. The combination of field devices connected to the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) provides the inputs, outputs and reader connections. Within each CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) you may assign up to 8 door configurations, making use of the inputs, outputs and reader connections. The structure of the CardaxFT system is very flexible. For example, a single alarm relay can be switched in response to alarm conditions detected by several different CardaxFT Controllers (5000 Series). Conversely, an input may be used to control a number of outputs such as lighting and air conditioning. In its standard configuration, CardaxFT includes up to 500 CardaxFT Controllers (5000 Series) and 5,000 CardaxFT field devices. Larger systems can be configured (contact Cardax for information). Supporting Multi-Media has been designed to meet the communication requirements of all the CardaxFT field devices. This includes the communication of digital images generated by the CardaxFT Digital Camera and the digitised audio messages generated by the intercom in the CardaxFT Intelligent Door Terminals. Inputs and Outputs contains four 4-state balanced inputs and a single relay output. These can also be used for general I/O functions. Distributed Intelligence and Data Storage stores a resident cardholder database and security parameters to enable it to carry out access control and security functions. The resident cardholder database stores access data for cardholders who will regularly use the devices attached to that CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series). It enables the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) to make access control decisions instantaneously. Access control information for cardholders who are not included in the resident cardholder database is requested from the Cardax Command Centre FT. The distributed intelligence supported by the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) enables it to operate independently from the Cardax Command Centre FT. This means access control for resident cardholders and other security functions will continue if communications fail between the Cardax Command Centre FT and the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series). This results in minimum impact on cardholders when they are using the access control system. All events and alarms are date and time stamped before being sent to the Cardax Command Centre FT server. Each CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) is capable of buffering events should communications with the Cardax Command Centre FT fail. The Controller will transfer the buffered events to the Command Centre automatically when communications are re-established. The number of events which can be buffered depends on the number of cardholder records and the size of events, for example, whether events include images from the CardaxFT Digital Camera. The number of cardholder records stored in each Controller is set at 30,000 and the size of the event buffer at 5,000 records. Communications The communications between the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) and the Cardax Command Centre FT use TCP/IP, a world standard network and Internet transmission protocol, over an Ethernet network. The CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) provides a standard 10BaseT connection point. Remote CardaxFT Controllers (5000 Series) can be connected to the system via a TCP/IP Wide Area Network (WAN). Field devices are connected to the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) via high speed RS485. The CardaxFT

Connectivity Diagram Ethernet connection from Cardax Command Centre FT RS485 Comms to CardaxFT Field Devices CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) Power 13.6 V DC ± 15% 4 Spare Inputs (e.g. for Intruder Alarm Use) Spare Relay Output RS232 Connection for Remote Dial-up Controller (5000 Series) includes two RS485 ports, each supporting up to 500m wiring distance between the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) and CardaxFT field devices. The distance can be increased in both directions by using a communication repeater such as the CardaxFT Strike Controller. Dial-Up Dial-up enables CardaxFT Controllers (5000 Series) to be located remotely enabling them to transmit information: At scheduled times When their event buffers are becoming full In response to certain events Likewise, Cardax Command Centre FT can be programmed to dial a CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) at scheduled times, or when an operator initiates a request. Dial up can also occur via an ISP, improving network security and reducing communication costs. Software Upgrades can be enhanced in the future via software upgrades. These software upgrades can be implemented over the network through Cardax Command Centre FT. Looking to the future, this will enable new features and functionality to be quickly and easily installed. The following are examples of situations where future software upgrades to the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) would be downloaded over the network: New field devices integrated into the CardaxFT security system Enhanced functionality Specialised logic control functions (PLC) Software upgrades can also be implemented over the network via the CardaxFT Controllers to selected field devices. The field devices that accept downloadable software upgrades include: CardaxFT Intelligent Door Terminals CardaxFT Digital Camera CardaxFT Reader I/O Interface These field devices are feature rich and the ability to download software upgrades to them over the network means enhancements can be easily and quickly installed in the future. Data Security All data over the network between the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) and the Cardax Command Centre FT server can be encrypted to a very high standard using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. The standard is similar to technology used to secure internet banking transactions. High-level encryption is a licensable optional feature. All communications between the CardaxFT Controllers and remote field devices are encrypted and checksummed to protect data from manipulation during transmission. Intruder Alarms provides sophisticated intruder alarm management, making separate intruder alarm systems superfluous. Intruder detectors are connected directly to CardaxFT I/O Interfaces. These Interfaces are connected to the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) so alarms can be raised at Cardax Command Centre FT. The CardaxFT I/O Interfaces also have outputs to trigger actions such as switching on lights when an intruder is detected. Authorised cardholders can set (arm) and unset (disarm) alarms through CardaxFT Intelligent Door Terminals. When alarms are set and unset, the reader can be configured to provide prompts and feedback to the cardholder via its LCD display. Entry and exit delays can be configured to give the cardholder time to enter or leave the premises. Full event details, including the cardholder s name, are recorded for set/unset operations at Cardax Command Centre FT. Setting and unsetting of alarms can also be implemented according to a time schedule. A relay output may be used to indicate the set/unset status of a particular alarm zone. Lift (Elevator) Control provides lift access control using CardaxFT Intelligent Door Terminals, Cardax Prox Plus readers and CardaxFT I/O and Relay Interfaces.

Key Features of the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) Relay Output Connector Relay Balanced Inputs Power and Comms Power In 10BaseT (Ethernet) Port AUI Port Ethernet Controller Run/Diagnostic Indicator RAM Front Optical Tamper Detector (door open) Real-time clock & Non-volatile RAM Flash Memory PC/104 Expansion Port Card readers may be installed in lift cars to provide restricted access to floors. When a CardaxFT Intelligent Door Terminal or Cardax Prox Plus reader is installed, the cardholder can be prompted to enter their PIN before access is granted. Floors may be unlocked (i.e. the lift floor select button enabled) on a time schedule. Relay outputs on CardaxFT Relay Interfaces or I/O Interfaces can be configured to enable the lift floor select buttons in a lift car. Inputs on a CardaxFT I/O Interface can be configured to monitor which floor is selected providing destination reporting and to prevent more than one floor from being selected. The CardaxFT Controller s (5000 Series) flexible design enables it to be configured for almost any lift control situation. The configuration is limited only by combinations of the following: Up to 75 lift levels per lift shaft Up to 16 field devices per CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) Up to 500m wiring from each of the two RS485 ports on the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) to the card readers the length of wiring can be extended by using a communications repeater such as the CardaxFT Strike Up to 2 lift shafts per CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) Typically each lift car requires one card reader and one relay output for each floor select button. If destination reporting is required then one input is required for each floor select button in each lift car. High level lift control will be developed as required following the initial release of the CardaxFT system. Exit readers are required so when cardholders leave the area their antipassback status can be cleared. Power Supply runs on 13.6V DC ±15% allowing a standard battery backed 12V power supply to be used. The system monitors the power supply for power low, power high and power fail. It is recommended that installers attach a backup power supply to the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) so it can continue to operate for at least 24 hours in the event of a mains supply failure. The backup power supply can be monitored by connecting relay outputs. These can then be monitored using the inputs on a CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) or a CardaxFT I/O Interface.

CardaxFT Cabinet with Controller (5000 Series) Clock contains its own battery backed real-time clock. The clock is synchronised with Cardax Command Centre FT at least once per hour. Managing Different Time Zones and Daylight Saving When the system is being configured, each CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) is assigned an international time zone, relative to Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC). This includes daylight savings settings. The system records the local time an event was registered at the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series) and the time it was logged at the Cardax Command Centre FT server. CardaxFT Cabinet The CardaxFT Cabinet is a secure enclosure for the CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series). It provides cost-effective housing and includes many features designed to make installation and servicing easier. When the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) is installed in the CardaxFT Cabinet, optical tamper protection is provided. The front optical tamper detector will sense when the Cabinet door is opened. The rear optical tamper detector will sense if the Cabinet is being removed from the wall. Manufactured from a strong polycarbonate/abs alloy, the CardaxFT Cabinet has a UL94 flame rating of HB. The CardaxFT Cabinet can house one CardaxFT Controller (5000 Series). must be mounted in a CardaxFT Cabinet following the directions in the installation instructions to comply with international emission standards such as C-Tick, FCC and CE. The design of the CardaxFT Cabinet enables several Cabinets to be installed side by side, neatly fitting together. Each Cabinet has a lockable lid that can be installed, on site, to hinge from any side.
