Customizing the Ribbon with your own Main tab (Menu) on THIS COMPUTER is a one-time setup Create your own Main tab with the most frequent commands YOU use. Tip: Commands that are accessible using the Right Click of the Mouse on an active cell were excluded. I found it quicker to select from these menus than dragging the mouse to the Ribbon. Please refer to the below snapshot: Right Click on any active cell & these Menus will 2 of 8
Step by Step Instructions in creating New Tab and Group on the Ribbon Step 1. Access the "Customize Ribbon" feature. There are various ways to access this. Step 2. Excel Options Step 3. Go to the "Choose Commands from" dropdown menu and select "All Commands". Mouse on Ribbon, right click, Customize the Ribbon (Exhibit 1) FILE Tab on Ribbon to Options (Exhibit 2) Customize Quick Access Toolbar Dropdown box to More Commands (Exhibit 3) Highlight Customize Ribbon (Exhibit 4) Popular Commands is the default; Select "All Commands" (Exhibit 5) Step 4. Create New Tab and Group Whenever a New Tab is created, a New Group gets created (Exhibt 6) Step 5. Move New Tab and Group to the Top Step 6. Rename Tab and Group Step 7. Create additional Groups and Rename For easy access on the Ribbon, move New Tab and Group to the top, before HOME tab (Exhibit 7) You can be creative in naming the Tab (My Menus; My Tools); You may wish to mirror existing Group Names (Exhibit 8) Create New Groups such as Formatting, Alignment; Choose commands from "All Commands" and add to the newly created Group (Exhibit 9) STEP 1. Create New Tab and Group in Customize Ribbon options Create New Tab with the New Tab button and enter OK; New Group is added automatically. 5 of 8
STEP 5. Move New Tab to the top, Beginning of the Main Tabs for easy access Exhibit 7 (Excel Options) Tip: When you add the New Tab, it automatically follows the current Tab you are working from. For easy access, move your New Tab to the Top, beginning of the Ribbon. Please note, New Group moves with the New Tab. 6 of 8
STEP 6. Rename New Tab and Group to custom names Exhibit 8 (Excel Options) Highlight the New Tab, Click Rename button, Rename dropdown box will appear with the exisiting name, New Tab. Enter the new name and click OK. Highlight the New Group, Click Rename button, Rename dropdown box will appear with the exisiting name, New Group. No Symbol needed. Enter the new name and click OK. STEP 7. Add Commands to your custom groups Exhibit 9 (Excel Options) 1) Highlight the Group you created under your Main Tab, Choose "All Commands" from the Choose commands from dropdown menu. 2) Scroll down and highlight the command you wish to select for this Group; This will activate Add button. Click the Add button and enter OK. 3) Continue this process; You can remove any commands, Group or Tab by highlighting them and click the Remove button. Tip: View exisiting Groups on the Ribbon for suggestions; You can reposition the Groups by using the Move up and down Arrow keys on the far right. 8 of 8
