Migrating License in ArcGIS 10 Article ID : TT100044 Software : ArcGIS 10 Platform : Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 Date : 19 th December, 2011 Introduction In ArcGIS 10, hardware locks were no longer needed and a new licensing mechanism was adapted. Under the new licensing mechanism, if you want to migrate a license server from an old server to a new one, it will have totally different approach as before. In this article, we will talk about how to migrate the concurrent license from an old license manager to a new one. Deauthorize the old license manager 1. Open ArcGIS License Server Administrator wizard from Start > Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager > License Server Administrator on license server. 2. Navigate to Authorization item in the tree on the left. 3. Click Deauthorize to launch Software Authorization wizard. All rights reserved. P. 1 of 14
4. An error message prompts if your license is being borrowed. Click OK to close the message. 5. Navigate to Availability item in the tree on the left. 6. Click View Borrowed Licenses. All rights reserved. P. 2 of 14
7. The machines which borrowed your licenses are listed. Note the Hostname column. Click Close to close View Borrowed Licenses wizard. 8. Ensure all the borrowed licenses are returned. 9. Authorize the new license manager 1. After installing license manager, open ArcGIS License Server Administrator wizard from Start > Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager > License Server Administrator on license server. 2. 4. Select the option I have received an authorization file from ESRI and am now ready to finish the authorization process. Click Browse... to select the provisioning file if necessary. Click Next to continue. All rights reserved. P. 8 of 14
5. Select Authorize with ESRI now using the Internet. Click Next to continue. 6. Your personal information is retrieved from the provisioning file. Enter or update if necessary. Click Next to continue. Note: Fields with an asterisk (*) are required. All rights reserved. P. 9 of 14

7. Core product authorization numbers and the corresponding amount (EFLxxxxxxxxx or EEAxxxxxxxxx) are retrieved from the provisioning file. Enter or update if necessary. Click Next to continue. 8. If you do not have any authorization number for extensions, select I do not want to authorize any extensions at this time. Otherwise, select I have authorization number(s) to authorize one or more extensions. Extension authorization numbers (EFLxxxxxxxxx or EEAxxxxxxxxx) are retrieved from the provisioning file. 11. ArcGIS License Service is started automatically. Or, you can start or stop manually under Start/Stop License Service item in the tree on the left. Click Start if it is not started. 12. You can review the licenses available under Availability item in the tree on the left. Note the Total and Available columns. Click Refresh if the list is not updated. 1.
