Module 2: Managing Your Resources Lesson 5: Configuring System Settings and Properties Learn Welcome to Module 2, Lesson 5. In this lesson, you will learn how to use the Administration Console to configure system settings and properties that are used by WebFOCUS Business User Edition. The Administration Console is only available to managers and allows them to configure a WebFOCUS Business User Edition environment to match their specific requirements. To access the Administration Console, open the Administration menu and click Administration Console. The Administration Console opens to the Configuration tab. This tab contains the Configuration page, which provides a list of functionalities, applications, and servers for which you can configure settings.

If you expand the Reporting Servers and Server Connections folders, you ll be able to view and modify the settings for the WebFOCUS Reporting Server. While it s not recommended to change the connection information, such as the Host or port numbers, you can use this area to replace the default internal authentication with external, Active Directory\LDAP-based authentication. The Application Settings folder allows you to modify some of the settings pertaining to files imported or exported with Change Management. You can also configure prompts and notifications related to deferred reports.

In addition, you can configure the way in which prompts for supplying parameter values behave in deferred, managed, and self-service reporting. Custom Settings allows you to change the default settings defined in the cgivars.wfs file.

The Configuration pane also contains NLS Settings and Dynamic Language Switch, which provide options for localizing WebFOCUS Business User Edition in one of the available languages. NLS Settings: Dynamic Language Switch:

Redirection Settings allows you to set how various file types are opened from WebFOCUS Business User Edition. InfoAssist+ Properties allows you to change the visible ribbon options, the default Query panel layout, and the default settings for various output formats. You can also access the Security tab from the toolbar at the top of the window. You can set internal settings, such as rules related to passwords and log-in attempts.

You can also set external settings to configure external authentication for WebFOCUS Business User Edition users. The ReportCaster tab opens the ReportCaster Console, which is also available from the Tools menu in WebFOCUS Business User Edition. The ReportCaster Console allows you to monitor and configure the ReportCaster distribution server.

Clicking Configuration allows you to configure an email server if you have one available and to determine default settings for ReportCaster schedules. The Diagnostics tab contains information about the WebFOCUS Business User Edition environment.

You can view version information for your installation. You can view file and directory access permissions that are available to your client.

You can view HTTP header information. You can view JVM properties that affect internal communications and operations. You can view monitoring information about system events.

You can also view logs tracking server performance and user behavior. As you can see, the Administration Console provides numerous options to fine tune and monitor your WebFOCUS Business User Edition environment to help meet the server, security, and application configuration needs of your department or entire organization. You are now ready to move on to Module 3, which explores the Upload Data and Connect to Data wizards. Specifically, you will learn how to upload an Excel spreadsheet into WebFOCUS Business User Edition Portal or connect to an existing data source (for example, Microsoft SQL Server ) to acquire your data.
