. Important information for the installation of the Ericsson handsfree facility Only for use within the BMW dealer organisation. The Ericsson handsfree facility may only be installed by a specialist workshop that has the required special tools and manuals (servicing, repair, diagnostics, etc.). Ensure that the cables/lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car. Additional cables/lines that you install must be secured with cable ties. Item numbers refer only to the parts overview, capital letters to the connection overview and small letters only to the texts next to the appropriate figure. The retrofit/installation kit contains a black telephone console. If a coloured telephone console is required it must be ordered separately using the electronic parts catalogue (EPC). To install the telephone console (E36//3//C only) 9 c e d b a 3 9 F 36 05 M The precise position of the retaining clips (dimensions d and e) has a major bearing on how well the telephone console will fit on the centre console. Remove the Philips screws (c) from the top and side mounting for the cover trim (b). Place the speed nuts (3) on the retaining clips (9). Raise the cover trim (b) in the direction indicated by the arrow and push the retaining clips (9) between the cover trim (b) and the centre console (a). Dimension d = 30 mm Dimension e = 95 mm 9 0 Fit the holder () on the centre console (a) using the positioning lugs (see arrows) and secure it to the retaining clips (9) with the selftapping screws ST3.9 x 9 (0). a F 36 053 M 5 a F 36 05 M After correctly installing the holder () on the centre console, slide the telephone console (5) into the guide rail (a) and swing it upwards until the holes (in the telephone console and holder) line up. Secure the telephone console (5) to the holder () using selftapping screws ST3.9 x 3 (). The resulting stressing will considerably increase the load capacity and the stability of the BMW telephone console on the centre console. Press the cover trim (b) on to the instrument panel (d) and secure it with the Philips screws (c). 6. To assemble the control module for the handsfree facility 5 The figure shows the trim (a) on the E36/5, proceed accordingly on other models. The spacers (7) are only required for models with a footwell light (b). Remove the insulation mat in the installation area if necessary. 7 b 7 a Position the control module () as shown, mark the positions of the holes and drill them with a.5 mm drill bit. 8. Installation and wiring diagram D B8 B D 0* B6 B7 A 6 F 36 08 M The figure shows the E36/, proceed accordingly on other models. The microphone (0*) is to be installed in the instrument panel on the left below the light switch on the E36/5, on the other models it is installed in the oddments box in the centre console.tie back excess cable lengths on the vehicle wiring harness. Secure the holder () for the mobile phone on the telephone console and lay branch D to the installation location of the control module () for the handsfree facility. Secure the control module () for the handsfree facility on the footwell trim on the left. Prepare the switch module (6) with the pin contacts supplied and the white pin plug casing and install it in the A pillar on the left and connect it. Connect the basic wiring harness B, connect branch B8 to branch D and lay branches B6 and B7 along the audio wiring harness into the boot on the left. Install and connect the microphone (0*): E36/5 in the instrument panel on the left under the light switch E36//3//C in the oddments box in the centre console. Connect the wiring harness A to the basic wiring harness B and the control module () for the handsfree facility and tie them back. 9. To install the holder for the mobile phone b 6 c d 6 e a f D D a 5 F 36 05 M DThe figure shows the telephone console (5) for the E36//3//C, proceed accordingly on the E36/5. When inserting the mounting plate (e) ensure that the threaded insert (f) is inserted. Depending on the design of the mobile phone, the extension piece from the installation kit may have to be inserted between the top (b) and bottom (a) parts of the holder (). Align the holder (a f) and mounting plate (e) on the cover (6) of the telephone console (5) and mark the positions of the holes. Drill the marked holes with a mm drill bit and secure the mounting plate (e) with selftapping screws ST.x6Z (6). Align the top part (b) on the mounting plate (e) and secure it with a screw (c) and washer (d). Insert the bottom part (a) in the top part (b) and press it in until it engages. It may be necessary to cut the centre console slight to ensure that branches D and D are not jammed as they pass through. Lay branch D to the installation location of the control module for the handsfree module in the footwell on the left. Lay branch D to the centre console near the gearshift or selector lever. 0. To install and connect the wiring harnesses and switch module C5 C Disconnect branches C, C and C3 with the dimension a = 50 mm from the switch module. Branches C, C and C3 are no longer required. Disconnect the blade terminals from branches C and C5, blue/white and blue/brown cables. Fit the remaining four cables on the switch module C with the pin contacts () and connect them to the plug casing (5) as follows: 5 C Cable colour Pin white/brown red/white blue/brown 3 blue/white a C3 C C F 36 03 M C8 7 C9 c b d 5 B C6 C7 Remove the footwell speaker (d) and disconnect the connection cables (b and c). Push the shrink hoses (7) on to branches C8 and C9, yellow/red and yellow/brown cables, connect branches C8 and C9 to the connection cables (b and c) and insulate them with the shrink hoses (7). Connect branches C6 and C7, yellow/white and yellow/brown cables, to the footwell speaker (d) and install the footwell speaker (d). Connect the white pin plug casing (5) on the switch module C to branch B. F 36 0 M B0 b C B A a Connect branches B0 and C to the earth post X873 (b). Disconnect the plug connector X3 (a) and connect it to branches B and B3. Connect branches B and A. Tie back the switch module C behind the footrest with cable ties and install the bottom A pillar trim. Branch A is not required tie it back on the wiring harness. . To install the microphone (E36//3//C only) 9 7 Insert the console (7) for the microphone (0) with the cover (9) and base (30) in the oddments box (8). Remove the cigarette lighter and switch from the old oddments box and install them in the new oddments box (8). 0 B5 8 30 F 36 05 M Refer to the direction of the arrows when you install the microphone (0). Insert the assembled oddments box (8) into the centre console, connect branch B5 to the microphone (0) and press the microphone (0) into position.
