Introduction An Introduction to CATVisor Commander Welcome, and thank you for choosing Teleste s CATVisor Commander. CATVisor Commander is a configuration and diagnostics software. It provides you with the features that help you configure EASI TM (Teleste's digital networking platform) devices dynamically and efficiently. CATVisor Commander is intended for use with Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system. It is a full 32-bit software application, so that when using it you can benefit from Windows 2000 operating system attributes. You can use CATVisor Commander locally with the help of a connection cable or remotely through an IP (Internet Protocol) connection. PC Software Requirements Microsoft Windows 98/ME or Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP SP2 update is required for Windows 2000 SP4 update is required for Windows NT 4.0 The recommended operating system is Windows 2000 Installing CATVisor Commander Before beginning: Please read the "Teleste Software End-User Licence Agreement" on page 36. We advise that you uninstall any former CATVisor Commander versions on your system. Uninstalling Use the Add/Remove Programs feature in Windows Control Panel to uninstall CATVisor Commander. Installing 1. Start Windows. 2. Place the CATVisor Commander CD-ROM in your CD- ROM station. The program s start up screen will appear. If the start up screen does not appear automatically on your PC, launch the setup.exe file from the software package of your CATVisor Commander CD-ROM. 3. Follow the instructions given on the screen. CATVisor Commander Tutorials Starting CATVisor Commander First, please make sure that You have read the "Teleste Software End-User Licence Agreement" on page 36. You have met all of the "CATVisor Commander System Requirements" on page 1. You have installed CATVisor Commander software. For a serial port connection: One of the connection cables from the picture in the "Communication Path Requirements" on page 1 is connected between your PC and the desired network element. For an IP connection: your PC and the network element you wish to connect to are connected to the Internet or to each other. Each DVX002 installation frame (rack) in the EASI TM system is inter-connected and has its own, specified bus address (please refer to the DVX002 User Manual). The EASI TM system is switched on and has devices installed. The Initial View The set up program will automatically place a shortcut icon to CATVisor Commander on your desktop: Click this icon to start Commander. Your screen will initially appear as seen below: The program is now running, but not yet connected to any EASI TM unit. Note the three separate frames in the display. These frames are the basis of the program s operation. In the next section you will open a connection to a EASI TM system to see better how these frames function. Starting with Command Line Parameters You can also start Commander by using command line parameters in Windows Command Prompt. For information about connection types, please see "Adding a Connection" on page 7. Simply add the filename (and the path to it, if necessary) to the parameters introduced in the previous chapter. By using these command line parameters it is also possible to create shortcuts on your desktop for easy access: 1. Right-click your mouse on the desktop. 2. Select New/Shortcut 3. Adding a Connection EASI TM Connections 1. Select the Connection pull-down menu. 2. Click Add New... to open the Add New Connection window. 3. Select the desired connection type from four options in the pull-down menu: Serial Port is a connection from a COM-port of your PC using a connection cable. See "Communication Path Requirements" on page 1. Direct IP (Point-to-Point) is an IP connection from the Ethernet card of your PC to an individual device that has an IP address. EASI TM Node is an IP connection from the Ethernet card of your PC to all the ATM devices that have been configured to the same ATM network. IP Host is an IP connection from the Ethernet card of your PC to an IP Host that functions as the bus master (for example, a DMM 100 Network Controller) in an installation frame. This connection type is useful because it will automatically show all the devices that are located in the same installation frame as the IP Host. You will not need to remember their IP addresses. This connection type also shows all other networks (typically HFC networks) connected to the IP Host. (Other networks will be shown in collapsed form in the Element Directory by default. You will have to expand the directory to view the network elements. For more information, please see "Modifying the Element Directory Appearance" on page 14.) Serial Port Connections Serial Port Name Simply select the COM port that you are using for this connection from the pull-down menu. Busmode The possible busmodes for each device are shown in the picture in the section "Communication Path Requirements" on page 1. DVX Bus establishes a connection to the DVX BUS connector of a network element. BK Bus establishes a connection to the connector of the MCtrl module. Point-to-Point establishes a connection to a specific device (that has a serial port) in the EASI TM system. IP via serial port establishes an IP connection to the RS232 port of a DMM 200 or a BKC901 Network Controller through a connection cable. It is also the recommended connection type for DMM 200. This connection type is useful, for example, when the installation frame is simultaneously connected to a CATVisor EMS Server. If you use this connection type the EMS Server will not be disconnected during your CATVisor Commander session. Other connection types reserve the DVX bus and all other connections are broken while using Commander. Baudrate The correct baudrate depends on the controller's or the device's type. Please refer to the picture in the section "Communication Path Requirements" on page 1 or to the device's User Manual. For connections to the DVX bus and BK bus this setting is not needed and does not appear in the window. Linkable Currently, this check box does not affect the program's functioning. IP Connections IP Address For IP connections, enter the IP address of the device to which you wish to connect. Name If you know that your IP host has a DNS name defined you can enter it in this edit box to establish the connection. In this case you will not need to enter the IP address. Saving an Element Directory We strongly recommend that you save the Element Directory databases in files. This has the following advantages: IP connections in particular open much faster from a database file than from the Connection/Add New command, since all IP addresses are stored in the file. Serial connections also open faster from a file than from a new connection since Commander will not need to scan the network elements before showing them. By using files it is much easier to notify about the changes (e.g. broken connections or removed devices) that may have occurred since your last network connection. A database file saved by using CATVisor Commander can also be used with CATVisor Service Organiser and visa versa. Save an Element Directory database by using the File pulldown menu. 1. Click File > Save to open the standard Windows Save As window. 2. Select the folder where you wish to store the Element Directory database. 3. Select the file format you wish to use. The default choice is *.eml (Element management library). 4. Name the Element Directory database and save it (the eml extension will be added automatically). Opening a Previously Saved Element Directory The next time you start CATVisor Commander, use the Open command in the File pull-down menu. The Connected View CATVisor Commander Frames and Menus After you have opened a new or a previously saved connection, click an element in the Element Directory (see the picture below). The CATVisor Commander connected view will appear showing different types of information in three separate frames: Pull-Down Menus Tool Bar Configuration Display Element Directory Status Bar Event Log The CATVisor Commander connected view Parts of the Connected View This section contains a short description of the functions of CATVisor Commander s frames and menus. They will be discussed in more detail later. Element Directory displays the structure of connections, Host Controllers as well as EASI TM network segments and individual devices in them. The structure is shown in the readable form of a hierarchical tree, showing the network elements' relative positions within the network. Configuration Display's display depends on the element selected in the Element Directory: Selection in the Element Directory Serial connection IP connection Network or EASI TM segment Individual device Configuration Display List of connected network or EASI TM segments with "Status Flags" on page 13 and information about "Background Scanning and Backup Files" on page 18. The Network Controller's configuration display pages, see "Configuration Display Pages" on page 27. List of devices within the segment with status flags and information about background scanning. The device's configuration display pages. Event Log lists the events that CATVisor Commander has detected. These events are shown in chronological order, the most recent one at the top of the list. Event Log also shows more detailed information about these events: date, time, source, address, severity and message. Pull-Down Menus function as in standard Windows applications. By using them you can connect to EASI TM units, save connection combinations, change views, update software, set the connection properties etc. Tool Bar contains shortcut icons for some of the Pull-Down Menus functions as in standard Windows applications. Status Bar shows keyboard status information as in standard Windows applications. Modifying Commander's Display Click the little cross icon in the top corner of a frame to hide Event Log or Element Directory, as in standard Windows applications. Make them reappear by checking them in the View pulldown menu. Click the little square icons of the frames of Event Log and Element Directory to make them appear as separate windows, disconnected from the initial view. Now you can move these windows on your screen by dragging them from their title bars with the mouse. Double-click the windows' title bar to restore the initial view. You can also resize all three frames by dragging from their borders with the mouse, as in standard Windows applications. the frames appear as separate windows. However, the Event Log can be lengthened only as a separate window. Status Flags CATVisor Commander uses flag icons to display normal status or device alarms, warnings and notifications. (With some devices error is used instead of alarm and notice instead of notification.) In the Element Directory only the alarm and warning flags are shown; whereas the Configuration Display's Status page shows all flags. You will find more information about status flags in the section "Status Page" on page 29. Element Directory The Element Directory displays a graphical organisation of connections, EASI TM network segments and individual devices that CATVisor Commander is connected to. The directory can consist of the following types of network elements: Serial connection IP Host connection EASI Node connection Network or EASI TM segment (for example, EASI TM subrack, BK bus, DVX bus or HFC network) An individual device connected through a serial connection An individual device connected through an IP connection The directory shows these elements in hierarchical order. Connections and segments are displayed above individual devices and with bold font. Alarms and Warnings Alarms and warnings are displayed in the Element Directory with a status flag in front of the network element. If a network element has a multiple status only the highest severity flag is shown. Commander User Manual, 59300093, rev001 CATVisor Commander Tutorials 13

Selecting Elements When you highlight a network element in the Element Directory by clicking the desired item, the Configuration Display will show more detailed information about it. Element Directory Menus You can also click an element with the right mouse button to open pull-down menus. These menus are introduced in the section "Element Directory Menus" on page 15. Modifying the Element Directory Appearance The minus (-) and plus (+) symbols in front of network elements function as in standard Windows applications. You can click them to hide or show subdirectories of the Element Directory. For IP connections that can contain very large numbers of connected elements there are Collapse and Expand commands in the Element Directory Menus. Click Expand to view all elements under the connection or click Collapse to see only the connection's name. The default method for showing an IP connection is collapsed because an automatic start for scanning large networks could cause a loss of connection. Element Directory Menus Click on an element with the right mouse button in the Element Directory to open a pull-down menu: Menu for IP connections Depending on the element, some of these options may not be available. Open Re-opens the connection. Open New Window Opens the element's Configuration Display as a separate, additional window. This is useful, for example, when you want to compare the settings of two devices of same type. Refresh Updates the connection or device information. Expand/Collapse (Only for IP connections) Modifies the Element Directory's appearance as explained in "Modifying the Element Directory Appearance" on page 14. These commands activate alternately. Rename This is a standard Windows function for renaming. Connect/Disconnect (Not available for segments) A disconnected element will not be in use but remains visible in the directory. Click Connect to establish the connection again. Remove Removes the element from use and from the directory. Properties Opens the Element Properties pop-up window. This window shows basic read-only information about the element. Commander User Manual, 59300093, rev001 CATVisor Commander Tutorials 15

Settings (Not available for segments) Click Settings to open the Connection settings window. In this window you can monitor and change connection settings. The connection settings will be explained in more detail in chapter "Connection Settings" on page 17. Element Directory Settings Click Element Directory Settings to open the View Settings window. Modify the Element Directory by checking or unchecking the boxes. A checked item will be shown in the directory for all elements (not dependent on which element you right-clicked). Either Alias name or Element must be checked. Alias name is entered and modified on the device's "Properties Page" on page 30. Bus address is a device's position in the EASI TM system. This address can be from 0 to 250. Slot position is a device s slot position inside its installation frame. This position can be from 1 to 15. Automatic sort arranges the directory's elements by IP address in ascending order or by Alias name/element type in alphabetical order. Show Latest Event Message Use this command to highlight the element's latest event message in the Event Log. See also "Event Log" on page 19. Print This is the same print command as in File menu. Connection Settings The Connection settings window for an IP connection does not contain the Addresses and Parameters sections. Background Scan Background scanning is a process during which Commander automatically looks for possible new network elements on the DVX bus and refreshes the status flags shown in the Element Directory. This process does not affect the status flags in the Configuration Display. They are refreshed automatically even when background scanning is enabled. Addresses already in use are skipped in the background scanning process. Interval is the length of time in milliseconds that a slot position is scanned. Thus, the background scanning sequence is the number of slot positions to be scanned times the interval. Unchecking the Enabled check box stops the background scanning process. New network elements will not be found, but there will be less traffic on the DVX bus. See also "Background Scanning and Backup Files" on page 18 for information about background scanning. Addresses You can set the address range for background scanning in these edit boxes. For example, if you know that the EASI TM system's slot positions 150 to 255 will not be in use, set the End edit box to 149. Background scanning will then be started from the beginning after 149. Parameters In this field you can change additional settings that were entered when this connection was first established. Commander User Manual, 59300093, rev001 CATVisor Commander Tutorials 17

For more information about these settings please refer to "Adding a Connection" on page 7. Click Apply to make the new settings valid or click Cancel to restore the original settings. Configuration Display The Configuration Display displays more detailed information about the element selected in the Element Directory. An Individual Device or an IP Connection Selected By clicking a device, the Configuration Display will show its configuration display pages. Each element has its own type of configuration display pages, which include all controls and settings that can be configured or monitored. You can find general information for using CATVisor Commander to configure devices in the section "Editing the Settings" on page 28. A Serial Connection or a EASI TM Network Segment Selected By clicking one of these elements, the Configuration Display will show a list of devices within or connected through this element. The device's status is shown in the list with the corresponding status flags. The list is organised into information fields under the following headings: Status, Name, Position or IP address, Model and Serial Number. You can change the order of the field columns by dragging from the headings with your mouse onto the desired location. You can also click these headings to sort items under them in alphabetical or numerical order. For example, click the heading "Position" to sort position numbers in ascending order and click again to sort them in descending order. Background Scanning and Backup Files When a serial connection or a EASI TM network segment is selected in the Element Directory the Configuration Display also displays a bar showing background scanning information. See "Connection Settings" on page 17 for more information about background scanning. Poll addr This data box shows a running number indicating the bus address (a slot position within the EASI TM system) being scanned. The addresses are normally from 0 to 255, but can be reset; see "Connection Settings" on page 17. Commander User Manual, 59300093, rev001 CATVisor Commander Tutorials 18

Restart poll By clicking this button you can start the background scanning process again from the beginning of the address range (normally from 0 to 255, but can be reset; see "Connection Settings" on page 17). The addresses that are already in use are skipped in the background scanning process. Backup files This button is used for saving device settings in files and for loading settings from files into devices. Currently not all devices support this function. This command is useful, for example, when a device is physically replaced with a device of the same type. Configuring the new device is easy from a file containing the settings of the replaced device. Note that a device must be selected in the device list to activate this button. Event Log The Event Log displays all the events that CATVisor Commander has detected. An event can be an error or an alarm, a warning, or a notice. Each deactivation of an error, an alarm, or a warning is also displayed as a notice. The events are listed in chronological order. The list is organised into information fields under the following headings: severity, date, time, and source, address, message and description. You can change the order of the field columns. Do this by placing the cursor on the information field s heading. Then depress your left mouse button and simply drag onto the desired location. Event Log You can right-click an event in the Event Log to open a pulldown menu: Save Opens a standard Windows Save window where you can save the event to a text file. This file can be sent to Teleste as an e- mail attachment for technical support. Commander User Manual, 59300093, rev001 CATVisor Commander Tutorials 19

Print Opens a standard Windows Print window where you can print the Event Log. Settings Click Settings to open a Dialog window: You can change settings for the Event Log by checking or unchecking the boxes. Note that all boxes are checked by default. For example, if you want the Event Log to show more than the latest message for each device, uncheck the corresponding check box. Select device Use this command to highlight the element that is sending the message in the Element Directory. File Menu New Opens a new connection to the EASI TM system. Note that this command closes the current connections. If you wish to open a connection in addition to the active ones, use the Connection > Add New... function in the "Connection Menu" on page 22. Open Opens a previously saved Element Directory from file. Note that this command closes the connections already open. If you wish to open a connection in addition to previous ones, use the Connection > Add New... function in the "Connection Menu" on page 22. Save Saves the Element Directory database without changing its name, connection type or location. Save As Opens the Save As window. In this window you can select the desired connection type and file location as well as name the Element Directory database file. Print In the printing options the Event Log and the Element Directory are currently available. The option for printing the Configuration Display will be added in the near future. If you select the Event Log to be printed the standard Windows Print window opens. If you select the Element Directory to be printed the following dialog opens: Properties of the Selected Element prints a list of basic information about the element highlighted in the Element Directory. List of All Elements prints the Element Directory in its expanded form showing elements' names and rack positions. Properties of All Elements prints the same basic information as in the Properties of the Selected Element option but for all the items in the Element Directory. Printer Setup Opens the standard Windows Printer Setup window. Commander User Manual, 59300093, rev001 CATVisor Commander Tutorials 21

Recent Service Organiser Files This menu lists any CATVisor Service Organiser element configuration files that are saved on your PC. You can click them to open. Exit Ends your CATVisor Commander session and closes the program. Note! This menu also lists up to four previously saved connections. Click one for quick access. Edit Menu The Edit Menu for standard Windows editing functions Undo/Cut/Copy/Paste is currently not available. However, you can right-click in a text entry field and use these functions from the pull-down menu that opens. View Menu Use the View menu to hide or show parts of CATVisor Commander s initial view. Click an item in the list to hide it and click again to show it. A checked item in the list is showing. Connection Menu Add New Use this command to establish a new connection to the EASI TM system. Click Connection > Add New... to open the Add New Connection window. For more information about adding a connection, please see "Adding a Connection" on page 7. Commands This option contains some of the functions of the "Element Directory Menus" on page 15 with which you can modify the connection. The Connection menu also lists the communication paths that you are using. Settings Menu PSI/IS key If you have purchased PSI/SI properties, use this command. A window opens where you can enter your SI processing key. In this way you can add pages for editing PSI/SI information to some devices Configuration Displays. Settings window ATMux Product Key You can purchase additional properties for ATMux products. These properties are activated with a product key that you will receive from a Teleste representative. Select the product in the Element Directory, click Product key and enter your product key in the window that opens: Options Clicking Options opens the following window: Commander User Manual, 59300093, rev001 CATVisor Commander Tutorials 23

By enabling Multirow pagetabs the tabs of the Configuration Display pages (see "Configuration Display Pages" on page 27) will be arranged in rows. This is useful if there are so many tabs that you cannot see all the headings. By clicking the connection buttons you can modify the baudrate and COM port used in the connections that are accessed by clicking the corresponding shortcut icons from the "Tool Bar" on page 26. User Profile By clicking this option you can change your user profile "onthe-fly". If you change it "upwards" to a profile that has more privileges than your current one, the program asks for password. Changing "downwards" can be done without a password. Serial Number By clicking this option you can enter a serial number in the window that opens. A serial number can be used, for example, for updating a demo version of the program to an official one. Your company can also acquire serial numbers that enable certain ways to use the program. For example, you can acquire separate serial numbers for local and remote use. If you are interested in this program feature, please ask a Teleste representative for more information. Tools Menu Note! These options are available for the user profile "End-User". For other user profiles this menu contains additional options. For example, users with at least "Service" level user profile can update device software from this menu, see "Updating the Device Software" on page 32. Sw Reset For some devices you will need to use this command after the software has been updated. BK Station Manager From the Module table of pull-down menu select the module table you want to view. The left list contains the modules that the Network Element Controller (NEC) or Commander itself (BK bus) has found and the right list contains the modules saved in memory (NEC Eeprom or Smem). The tables are managed by highlighting modules and then by clicking the buttons in between the lists. You can also highlight a module and then view its basic readonly information by clicking Properties. Help Menu Help Topics Opens the on-line help's Help Topics window. Simply follow the instruction given in this window. About Commander Opens the About Commander pop-up window. It contains basic information about the program s version, producer and copyrights. By clicking Components or Viewers you can open windows containing Commander's components and their version numbers. By clicking Save Info you can save this information to a text file. Our technical support may ask you to send this file as an e-mail attachment to them for better service. Tool Bar The Tool Bar contains icons that function as shortcuts. By clicking them you can perform some of the Pull-down Menus functions. Place the cursor on an icon and a tool tip will appear showing the function of this icon. The Status Bar at the bottom of the Configuration Display shows you a longer description of this function at the same time. The inactive shortcut icons for cutting, copying, pasting and printing are currently not available. The Tool Bar also contains shortcut icons to open different kinds of connection types (DVX, BK, PP and RS IP). If you often need a certain type of connection it is useful to use these icons. Configuring and Monitoring the Network Elements Configuration Display Pages By clicking an EASI TM device in the Element Directory the Configuration Display will show its configuration display pages. These pages include all the programmable controls and settings for the selected EASI TM device. Each EASI TM device has its own type of pages. Only one configuration display page is completely visible at one time. Other pages are visible as tabs. The pages in between vary depending on the selected EASI TM device. You can open a page simply by clicking the tab's heading. The Configuration Display of a INE233, with one of its configuration display pages activated. Tip! If a Configuration Display contains so many tabs that you cannot see all the headings, click on the arrow icons that are located on the right-hand side of the tabs or enable multirow tabs from the "Settings Menu" on page 23. On-line Helps for Configuration Displays Currently VIVACE and PRESTO have their own on-line documentation for their Configuration Displays included with CATVisor Commander. These helps work by clicking the Help button of the Configuration Display. Other devices' Configuration Displays do not have the Help button or it is inactive. Please refer to their User Manual for more information about their Configuration Displays. Refreshing the Device Information The Configuration Displays for devices have a Refresh button. Click that button to update the information shown on the Configuration Display pages. Editing and Monitoring This section gives only basic information about configuring and monitoring the devices. For VIVACE, please see "On-line Helps for Configuration Displays" on page 28 for more information. For other devices, please refer to their User Manual for more information about their Configuration Displays. Editing the Settings When activated, a configuration display page shows the active settings of the selected device. The configuration information on configuration pages is shown in data fields or boxes. You can change settings in data fields or boxes whose background is white. Place your cursor in the desired data field or box and enter the new setting. Some settings are entered by clicking on a check box or a radio button, by selecting from a pull-down list or by scrolling digits with the help of spin buttons. When you have entered a new setting, the Apply button is activated. By clicking this button you verify the new settings and they will be sent to the device. If these settings are legal, they become valid immediately and the Apply button turns inactive. By clicking Cancel you can restore the original settings. Note that you can change several settings before clicking Apply. If you entered settings with the help of spin buttons, the Apply command is not needed. The new settings are saved in the non-volatile memory of the configured device. In this way they will be maintained even if the power is lost temporarily. When you have finished editing, check that the configured devices are not indicating any warnings or alarms. Monitoring the Status Flags If a data field or box has a grey background, it contains readonly information that cannot be edited. Red, yellow and green backgrounds of data fields or boxes indicate alarms, warnings and notifications related to the settings or values in them. For more information about alarms and warnings, please see "Status Page" on page 29. Status Page The Status page contains more detailed information about the current alarms and warnings related to the selected device. (With some devices error is used instead of alarm). Note that the Event Log also shows alarms and warnings. However, the Event Log shows an event history, in which the past events are included. CATVisor Commander uses status flags to represent alarms and warnings. A red flag on the Status page indicates an alarm and a yellow flag is the symbol for a warning. If an alarm is detected, try to solve the problem first by switching off the supply voltage for a few seconds and then switching it on again. If this does not help, try to update the Application/Firmware software. If the alarm status flag is still showing, send the device to be serviced. A warning usually turns off after the device has been reconfigured correctly. Try to configure the device again and click Apply. For further information about alarms and warnings, please refer to the device s User Manual. For VIVACE, the "On-line Helps for Configuration Displays" on page 28 also contain information about warnings and alarms. Note! Some devices having calibration data may display codes like Rec caldata or Mod caldata to indicate corrupted calibration data. These devices may still be operational, but out of calibration. Flag Masks The Status page has a Flag Masks button for users who have at least "Service" level user profile. At present, not all devices support this function. If this function is not supported a notification window opens. The window lists all possible event messages and their descriptions. Deselect the ones you do not wish to be shown on the Status page from the corresponding check boxes. Confirm your selections by clicking Apply. All boxes are checked by default. You can uncheck all of them by clicking Clear All. By clicking Set All from the same button you can check all boxes. Properties Page The Properties page varies according to the type of device. In all cases it shows information about the device s hardware and software, as shown in the example windows below. The Properties page of a INB201 On a Properties page you can also name the selected device. Any device can be named, for example by using the name of the channel or the service provider. This name will also be displayed in the Element Directory. Simply enter the desired name and click Apply to make the new name valid or click Cancel to restore the original name. EASI devices have a Save Button on the Properties page. Clicking it opens the standard Windows Save window where you can save the information on this page to a text file. This function is needed, for example, if you need technical support from Teleste. Our technical support may ask you to send the saved file to them for better service. Removing Devices from the EASI TM system If a device is physically removed from the EASI TM system segment that you are connected to, a red cross symbol appears in front of this device in the Element Directory: This symbol also appears in the Configuration Display when a EASI TM network segment is selected. It also appears if a device is in its location but faulty to the point that it is not responding. The red cross symbol shows until this device is repaired or replaced. If a device has been or is to be removed permanently from the EASI TM system and you wish to remove it from the Element Directory database as well, close the connection containing this device. Then add a new connection using the same communication path and save the Element Directory. responding device, CATVisor Commander will look for this device in vain and show the red cross symbol in front of it. Adding Devices If a device is physically added to the EASI TM system segment that you are connected to while CATVisor Commander is running (or after you last used it), the program will show it after a short delay. If you wish to add this device to your Element Directory database as well, remember to save the connection including the new device before exiting (Commander also suggests saving upon exit). Updating the Device Software With the help of CATVisor Commander you can load application software updates to the devices. S-record files with extensions srec and s2 also accept firmware as update target. Element software can be updated only by users with at least "Service" level user profile. There is also the Broadcast Update Element Software option for updating several devices of same type at the same time. For this you will need to enter a broadcast address but after that the process is the same as described below. 1. Select a device in the Element Directory. 2. Click Update Element Software in the Tools menu to open the Open window. 3. Browse for the update file (in.hex,.srec,.s2 or.mot formats) and click Open. The update preprocess starts automatically. 4. The blue indicator bars in the Preprocess field show the progress and remain full when preprocessing is finished. CAUTION! Uncheck the Bus reserved safemode enabled check box only if you are sure that your PC is the only master of the bus. The update process may be a little faster when Bus reserved safemode is disabled, but the process will fail if some other device takes control of the bus during the download. 5. Enter the Device model and HW version if prompted. You will find them on the Properties page. Select the Download method from the pull-down menu: Synchronised Synchronous communication is used in downloading. Each packet will be checked before sending the next. Send and Check Asynchronous communication is used in downloading. Each packet will be checked before sending the next. Fast Asynchronous communication is used in downloading. Packets are sent on regular intervals until no packets are left. Combined Lines As many data lines as possible will be combined into each packet. Asynchronous communication is used in downloading. Packets are sent and stored to a communication buffer on regular intervals until no packets are left. 6. Click Update. The updating process may take a few minutes. field and the text field at the bottom of the window show the progress. 7. When the process is finished, a Software updated successfully notification appears briefly and the blue bars remain full indicating that the application software is updated. Close the Software Update window by clicking Close. 8. Some digital devices need the Reset command in the Tools menu to start the new application software. If the Reset command is not available, just select the device in the Element Directory again. Note! With some devices a physical power-off and on will be required. The Upgrade replaces and/or supplements the software product that formed the basis for your eligibility for the Upgrade. You may use the resulting upgraded Software Product only in accordance with the terms of this Agreement and the terms and conditions, if any, accompanying the Upgrade. If the Upgrade is an upgrade of a component of a software product package that you licenced as a single software product, the Upgrade may be used only as part of that single software product package and may not be separated for use on more than one computer. 4. SUPPORT SERVICES Teleste may provide you with support services, as defined by Teleste from time to time, related to the Software Product ("Support Services"). Use of Support Services is governed by the then current Teleste policies and services programs described in the user manual, "online" documentation and/or other materials provided by Teleste. Support Services offered by Teleste are not available without proof of purchase of the Licence from Teleste or an Authorised Distributor. Any supplemental software code provided to you as part of the Support Services shall be considered part of the Software Product and subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement. With respect to technical information you provide to Teleste in connection with the Support Services, Teleste may use such information for its business purposes, including for product support and development.
