Ok.. so that went ok it works ok in the virtual box. But I have a way different IP address inside of the windows XP virtual box than I do for the computer that it is running of. Ubuntu 11.10. anyway when I change the ip address to static then I lose internet connectivity and also the subnet mask automatically appears it was 255.255.255.0. Good exercise.. Got the idea. Hands on Project 4-3 pg 187 in this project you will learn how to modify TCP/IP parameters for your network interface on a windows vista workstation ok let me go set up vista 32 bit in a virtual box. Ok well that exercise was the same as what we did with XP. They act the same. And im not sure what ip address would work on this network within virtual box, but like I said.. same results.. change the ip stuff and then the internet doesn t work subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 Hands On Project 4-4 pg 188

In this project you will learn about PING.. packet internet groper... sounds creepy ok.. so im doing this in linux.. type ping... ttl=64 that's time to live before the packet gets discarded

I got a response the ttl was only 53.. the ping got redirected to another server but it was still part of yahoo. Here is another screenshot. 64 bytes from ir1.fp.vip.mud.yahoo.com (209.191.122.70): icmp_req=56 ttl=53 time=37.3 ms

I pinged the new ip 209.191.122.70 and it came back form this one

so I tried with ping -a and it did not resolve it to a hostname and it did not do it. Hands on Project 4-5 pg189 Ok now for 4-5 so I gotta ping www.course.com here is the screenshot

ftp here goes it didnt work... the ftp server says no anonymous connections here is the screenshot
