Chse the desired setting: Small Smallest Standard Nte: Smetimes the distances r gaps between several different patterns in a PDF dcument are t small and they are treated as ne pattern by ur cnversin engine. It can cause prblems e. g. fr PDF t Excel cnversin when tw patterns are merged and placed int the same Excel clumn instead f putting them in tw different clumns. Fnt, characters and symbls Retain prblematic fnt names frm the PDF - In certain cases, a PDF dcument will cntain a variety f challenging fnts. The default is fr the applicatin t try and match the fnt t the clsest available fnt in Wrd. In Page: 59 / 74

Spacing situatins where the applicatin is unable t find a suitable fnt fr replacement, selecting this ptin prvides the user with the ability t retain the fnt names frm the PDF. By ding s, the user can then chse the fnts that they think will wrk best and can give a better cnversin result. Eliminate repeated characters (if mre than 5) - Dcuments will ccasinally have a line f repeated characters, which may interfere with PDF cnversin results. The Eliminate Repeated Characters setting allws the user t replace cmmnly repeated characters, such as asterisks (mre than 5, *****) with the fllwing: " ***. This ptin shuld be utilized in dcuments where the repeated characters are causing prblems t the cnversin utput. This ptin des nt change the way multiple (mre than 3) dts are prcessing they are kept in RTF/DOC cnversin and eliminated therwise. Shw unrecgnized symbls as (Cde A4) chse this ptin t display all unknwn i.e. unrecgnized symbls as Aut-Spacing between wrds - sme PDF dcuments are created s that there are n spaces between wrds, even thugh the viewable PDF page des seem t cntain them. Because f this, the Accumax CT cnversin engine autmatically adds spaces between dcument patterns (i.e. wrds) as a default setting. In certain cases, such as justify alignment, the aut-spacing between wrds can result in having extra spaces between wrds and therefre pr cnversin results. In these cases, yu can enhance the cnversin results by unselecting the Aut-Spacing Between Wrds setting. Aut Spacing between clse numbers the same setting but fr clse numbers OCR manage the OCR (ptical character recgnitin) settings Aut-Spacing between wrds - this ptin wrks fr scanned dcuments/pages in a similar way as the "Aut-Spacing between wrds ptin described abve if selected, spaces between text patterns ("wrds ) will be added even if the OCR engine des nt add them. Margins OCR Engine chse the desired ptin fr the OCR engine Smart - use this submenu t cntrl whether r nt t activate the OCR engine fr a given selectin and cnversin: Preserve Images this ptin can be useful fr PDF files which have been created electrnically, but have damaged fnts r therwise cnvert prly. Under certain circumstances, frcing an OCR cnversin can prvide better results. Frce OCR - if selected, all images will be cnverted as images; therwise pages will be treated as scanned images and the OCR will be implemented t extract the infrmatin. Disable OCR - In sme cases, perhaps where a PDF cntains fixed image and electrnically-created PDF elements, the user may wish t turn ff the OCR engine in rder t capture nly the electrnicallycreated PDF elements - which can result in a much quicker cnversin. Default Margins tick this checkbx t use default margins f the input dcument r enter the desired margins in the input field n the right. Nte: The margin value is used fr changing the size f the printable margins fr a Wrd dcument cnverted frm a PDF dcument. The default value is 0.00 inches this is chsen because it prvides the best psitinal utput when cnverting a dcument frm PDF t Page: 60 / 74

Wrd. Certain ffice printers cannt print the whle page area f a PDF i.e. 0.00 inch margins n a page will nt print. If this is the case, the margin input field allws yu t set the printable margins apprpriate fr yur printer. A value f 0.2-0.5 inches will generally wrk best n mst printers. Custm Margins use this ptin t define custm margins Header and fter (inches) Insert Headers select this ptin t create headers in the resulting Wrd dcument. Header Value - specify the header height in inches. Insert Fters select this ptin t create headers in the resulting Wrd dcument. Fter Value - specify the fter height in inches. Max fnt size Header/Fter specify the maximum size f the fnt which will be used within the header and fter. Graphics and images management - The default setting fr Graphics and Images Management is set t Aut detect. It wrks in the fllwing way: if a page fr sme reasn cannt be drawn crrectly in the way it is described in PDF (say the page cntains sme graphics settings nt supprted in RTF/DOC) it will be drawn as an image(s); therwise vectr graphics will be drawn as vectr graphics and images as images. Alignment if "t page ptin is selected, all images and vectr graphics elements will have abslute psitin anchred t the page tp left crner; therwise images r graphics elements will be gruped by Y crdinate and each grup (i.e. each graphics element frm the grup) will be anchred t the paragraph clsest t the grup (except clumn/newspaper paragraphs). Dwnsampling chse the desired ptin fr when the Able2Extract Server shuld perfrm dwnsampling f the images Aut chse the ptin t let the Able2Extract Server perfrm dwnsampling autmatically Fr large images nly chse this ptin t perfrm dwnsampling fr large images nly Reslutin fr vectr graphics set the desired reslutin fr the vectr graphics by chsing ne f the tw available ptins: 150 dpi 300 dpi Detectin and placement Aut-detect chse t let Able2Extract Server aut-detect and manage images within the input dcument Manual Setting select this ptin t setup the image management manually; the fllwing tw ptins are available: Place all images in Backgrund (nt applicable fr MS Wrd Simple) - all images which are set in the backgrund in the PDF dcument will remain in the backgrund in the cnverted Wrd dcument. By default, Accumax CT adds images (such as JPG r BMP files) as MS Wrd pictures, s yu can frmat each image separately r change their psitin within the dcument. Page: 61 / 74

Masked images in Wrd may nt be prperly rendered using a default setting. In ther cases, images may als be incrrectly displayed such as prblems with image brders r disappearing images. In bth f these cases, selecting this ptin f adding all images t the backgrund image may help slve prblems with displaying images within the cnverted dcument. Hrizntal Gap between Patterns during Selectin Newspaper clumn paragraph minimum width - Many PDF dcuments are frmatted with clumn paragraphs, r newspaper-style paragraphs. T assist in the recgnitin and cnversin frm PDF t Wrd fr these types f paragraphs, the user can designate the minimum width fr clumn/newspaper paragraphs. The Accumax CT cnversin engine cntains cmplex algrithms fr differentiating between table clumns and paragraph clumns hwever, in sme cases, it is very difficult fr the engine t distinguish between these tw types f paragraph. The Clumn (Newspaper) Paragraph Minimum Width setting allws users t imprve cnversin results by prviding input regarding the structure f the PDF dcument. E.g. if it is knwn that a given dcument des nt have any clumn/newspaper paragraphs with clumn widths f less than 2.00 inches, changing the Clumn (Newspaper) Paragraph Minimum Width t 2.00 inches will prevent the Accumax CT engine frm treating sme table clumns as clumn/newspaper paragraphs. The default fr this setting is 1.00 inch. Keep hyphens frm riginal dcument - the default setting is fr the applicatin t autmatically keep r delete hyphens based n their psitin within the paragraph - in sme cases, the psitin f the text in Wrd will vary frm the riginal PDF dcument, s that a hyphen that was riginally required t split a wrd is nt required in the cnverted dcument. The user can pt t select the Keep Hyphens frm Original Dcument ptin t ensure that n hyphens are deleted. Page: 62 / 74

11.1.2 Cnverting PDF t MS Wrd with Frames The MS Wrd with Frames cnversin type retains backgrund graphics and layut f the selected pages and items, but with the text appearing in individual text bxes in a new wrd dcument. This cnversin type is ideal fr users wh prefer t wrk with text bxes which can be easily mved within a dcument. Nte: because the text bxes are designed t crrelate with the structural psitining f the riginal PDF dcument, chsing this frmat may give yu a mre accurate layut than the MS Wrd Standard frmat. 11.1.3 Cnverting PDF t MS Wrd Simple The MS Wrd Simple cnversin type nly cnverts text prtins f the dcument. The text will appear as a standard paragraph withut special frmatting r text bxes in a new wrd dcument. This cnversin type is ideal in case mimicking the exact layut f the PDF file is nt as imprtant as accessing the text easily. Page: 63 / 74

Figure 69: Cnverting PDF t MS Excel Fr further infrmatin abut available parameters, see 11.1.1. Excel specific parameters Use Text frmat fr nn-numeric data - In certain dcuments, dates may be autmatically cnverted int a numerical frmat in Excel. This may cause cnfusin r prblems with the cnversin utput. T preserve dates in the Text frmat, select this item n the ptin menu. Trailing Minus sign ( - ) Treatment In certain financial dcuments r reprts, the minus sign symbl trails t the right f the number (e.g. 4,560- instead f -4,560 ). Cnverting negative numbers where the minus sign trails t the right may cause cnverting them as text items, instead f numbers. Use this ptin t mve trailing minus signs frm the end f the number t the beginning f the number, t prevent such instances frm being cnverted t textual items in Excel. Retain Dllar Sign ($) as Separate Symbl - Certain financial dcuments cntain dllar signs - ften at the tp r bttm f financial dcument. Unfrtunately, smetimes the dllar sign ($) create challenges in the way the prgram interprets clumn structure - as such, the default is t meld the dllar sign int the same clumn as the number next t it. In certain cases, hwever, the user may wish t retain the dllar sign in its separate clumn. T d s, select this ptin t retain such a structure. Eurpean Cntinental Settings (1.234.567.89 = 1 234 567.89) - in Nrth America, the decimal pint is a perid separating the integer prtin f a number frm the fractinal prtin and the thusands separatr is a cmma. In certain ther cuntries, the reverse is true: a decimal cmma is used t Page: 65 / 74

separate the integer prtin f a number frm the fractinal prtin, and a perid is used as the thusands separatr. This ptin allws yu t cnvert dcuments that adpt the decimal cmma and perid thusands separatr (referred t here as Eurpean cntinental settings) t Excel frmatted numbers crrectly. Enable Table Unflding (treat rws as clumns and vice versa) - This ptin allws yu t generate an utput frm a PDF in clumn structure t Excel in rw structure r vice versa. Fr example: if yur PDF dcument cntains three clumns f data, when this ptin is selected, the cnversin f these three clumns will result in three rws. The first rw will cntain the data frm the first clumn; the secnd rw will cntain data frm the secnd clumn, etc. Calculate clumns psitin frecast fr OCR pages in Custm Excel cnversin if this ptin is selected the Custm Excel cnversin will always try t calculate a clumn psitin frecast; therwise the calculatin will be perfrmed nly fr nn-scanned pages.
