SLOWNESS I N CITRIX AND IN GENERAL Slowness can be caused by a number of things and the first place to troubleshoot is locally. Many local elements can be addressed to help improve your Remote Access experience. Low Disk Space? If your computer is low on disk space it can perform much slower. Clearing up space will result in better performance. Older computer? Older hardware can struggle with the demands of today s software. Today s applications require more resources to run well. Do you have enough memory? Your computer s RAM (Random Access Memory) is used to launch applications at startup and also run all the services and processes that you need to operate your computer. The more applications that you have open or load on startup, the less resources you have for other processes. Is your computer protected? Viruses and malware can slow down your computer. The Firm provides virus and malware protection at no cost. DOWNLO AD SYMANT E C ANT IVIRUS O N YOUR HOME PC OR MAC 1. Launch Internet Explorer and enter remote.mofo.com in the address field.

REMOTE ACCESS GUIDE PAGE 17 2. Click the Downloads link. 3. Select the appropriate link to install Symantec Antivirus. REMOTE ACCESS E XPL AINED At MoFo, the Remote Access Team spends a great deal of time developing and optimizing our Remote Access Environment. 1. How does Remote Access work? When you connect to MoFo you are presented with a webpage that shows you Citrix Desktops and Published Applications. When you click on a published application, a session is on that server as if you just logged into the server itself. For instance, launching Citrix RDP X6 connects to the server hosting the application and creates a profile for you just as if you had connected to a remote desktop. After your profile is built, the application will launch. Once launched, the application will perform better than it would if you had launched it on your local computer. This is because it is being run from a server in the same location as all the other servers hosting your data. 2. Why is it that sometimes when I launch a Remote Desktop it is fast and sometimes it is not? The main reason is because your profile is being recreated. Profiles are deleted from servers if they are not used for more than three days or you are using a server new to you. Most Remote Desktops have four or more servers in load balancing so there is the potential that even though you were on server A the next time you login you might get server B which has to again build your profile. Profiles are deleted every three days to keep the server performing at an optimal level. 3. Are there things I can do to my home computer improve performance? Yes, on your local computer you can do the following before going to http://remote.mofo.com. 3.1 Close all other applications. 3.2 Minimize the Applications that startup automatically on start up. 1) PC: Click on Start > Run and type msconfig at the prompt. Click on the startup tab and uncheck applications you don t want to launch at startup. (Be careful not to disable your anti-virus program) Restart your computer to apply the changes.
