BASIC CONCEPTS ABOUT CHAR PMS LINK utile PMS link is an application designed to make connections easier between any Communications system (PBX, TV systems, Internet, ) with any external Hotel computer system (PMS, Property Management System) based on FIAS protocol, allowing multiples PMS connections and multiples externals communications systems simultaneously. The application acts as a middleware between both systems, contributing to the security and control in the connection, powering the benefits of both systems and making the link possible to both systems by multiple physical devices (RS232, TCP/IP, text files...) in formats and protocols adaptable to the needs of any PMS. utile PMS link provides an intelligent middleware that not only translates protocols, but also controls the connection acting as a buffer when it is needed (independent for all devices involved) and controlling their activity. ABOUT FIAS PROTOCOL One of the most common protocols used in the Hotel and Hospitality industry is the Micros-Fidelio s FIAS (Fidelio Interface Application Specification) protocol. TCP/IP is used as the transport protocol layer. Opera Fidelio PMS is supported by char utile PMS Link application and it also supports any other PMS designed by the FIAS protocol. 3 / 11
DEVICE CONNECTION utile PMS link application must be configured to connect to the following systems: Communication Device: Communication systems (PBX, PPV system, Web Server, ) Link Device: External application (PMS -Proprietary Management System-, ) DEVICES (COMMUNICATION DEVICE - PBX) The application supports the connection of multiple communication systems as PBX, TV system, Internet system, etc. simultaneously. By default, the application is licensed to connect with one communication system. In case that more than one communication system connection is required, the application must be correctly licensed. Contact your application s supplier to upgrade the license if it is necessary. In a normal environment, one PBX and one PMS is connected to utile PMS Link. The PBX connection link is used to: Receive the phone traffic data from the PBX: utile PMS link will process the information and will send the call prices to the external application (PMS) in the defined protocol. Depending on customer requirements, Room Status and Minibar information may be also be sent. Send commands (Check In, Check Out, Reminders, ) to the PBX that were received from the external application (PMS). Please refer to the Communication Device Guide for more details about this connection. 4 / 11
PMS LINKS DEVICE (PMS) The application supports the connection of multiple external applications (PMS) simultaneously. By default, the application is licensed to connect with one PMS system. In case that more than one external application (PMS) connection is required, the application must be correctly licensed. Contact your application s supplier to upgrade the license if it is necessary. In a normal environment, one PBX and one PMS is connected to utile PMS Link. The PMS connection link is used to: Send the phone traffic processed to the PMS application using the specified protocol. It also sends the Room Status, Minibar and wake up confirmations (if it is supported by the PBX and/or the PMS). Receive the orders from the PMS to be sent to the PBX such as Check In, Check Out, Wake Up, Room Change,... Device Configuration To configure the PMS Device in the char utile PMS link application, access to utile PMS link menu / Links to display the main screen. On PMS links, click on button to select the Opera PBX link: 5 / 11
Once the Opera Fidelio driver is selected click on Apply button to save changes, and the new device will be shown as follows: The next step is to configure the PMS connection, clicking the Setup device button indicated by the button. It will appear the following screen: Name Group Enable Device name Common Group identifier as a link between the devices and the PMS connections. Any action received by the device or the PMS connection, will be managed by all the devices or PMS connections with the same group identifier. Enable or Disable the device. 6 / 11
Click on Apply button to access to the main configuration screen: The main screen is composed of two general tabs: SETTINGS Tab ADVANCED Tab 7 / 11
SETTINGS TAB FIAS host (address:port) Active records Room Status translation It must be specified the IP Address and Port to connect to FIAS host Selection of the supported actions by the PMS system Allows to enable or disable the sending of information from utile PMS link application to FIAS host. Translation Room Status table for the codes received from the FIAS device Allows to configure the identifier number for each Room Status code. 8 / 11
ADVANCED TAB The advanced Tab is composed of 3 sub-tabs: Link Tab Records Tab Advanced settings Tab Link Tab This screen describes the FIAS protocol and it is disabled to avoid any user change. 9 / 11
Records Tab Records to be sent by the utile PMS link application to FIAS host. This configuration screen is disabled to avoid any user change. Advanced settings Tab Format definition of the charges sent. This configuration screen is disabled to avoid any user change 10 / 11
The basic parameters for the PMS connection are set in the Settings tab: FIAS host (address:port): The IP connection for PMS interface must be entered. It is highly recommended to maintain the default port (5020). Active records: Selection of the supported actions by the PMS system. Room Status translation: Translation Room Status table for the codes received from the ALU EMS device. Advanced Tab Advanced configuration window where it is not possible to modify the default configured parameters. 11 / 11
