Snic PDF Server 3.0 1 Intrductin The purpse f the Investintech Snic PDF Server is t cllect dcuments, prcess them i.e. cnvert them t PDF and return the result back t the sender. All cllected files are placed int a queue and prcessed using several threads. The files are cllected by the fllwing 2 methds: Frm the Lcal Netwrk see sectin 5 Via E-mail (MS Exchange Server, POP3, MAPI ) see sectin 7 1.1 System Requirements The fllwing are the system requirements fr using Snic PDF Server: MSXML 6.0 and Visual C++ 8.0 Runtime (Micrsft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package) installed. Windws Server 2000, Windws Server 2003, Windws Server 2008 and Windws Server 2008 R2, r a client (desktp) cnfiguratin f Windws 2000, Windws XP Windws Vista r Windws 7. Minimum 128 MB RAM. Minimum 60 MB free disk space fr the PDF Server prgram and 1-10 gigabytes free disk space fr string temprary data (this amunt depends n the traffic and prgram cnfiguratin (e.g. whether the prcessed files are stred n the Server cmputer). Access t E-mail system (if the files are t be sent via email). Sharing f specified flders fr incming and utging files (if the clients will send files via lcal netwrk and Watched Flders will be lcated n the server cmputer). Access t specified flders n ther cmputers (if the server will pick up files fr prcessing by lcal netwrk and Watched Flders will be lcated n clients cmputers). Crrespnding MS Office applicatins installed (in case yu want t use Snic PDF Server t cnvert MS Office dcument t PDF). Crrespnding native applicatin installed (in case yu wish t use Snic PDF Server t cnvert frm any ther frmat ther than MS Office) MS Exchange Server installed (if clients will send files via E-mail, using ne f MS Exchange ptins) Page: 5 / 74

Snic PDF Server 3.0 2 Befre Installing Snic PDF Server 2.1 Required Sftware Updates The fllwing sftware updates shuld be installed prir t installing Snic PDF Server. MSXML 6.0 SP1 dwnlad frm :http://g.gl/5gf6x Visual C++ 8.0 Runtime dwnlad frm: http://g.gl/ycyrt Nte: If this sftware is nt installed befrehand, yu will be prmpted t dwnlad and install it during the installatin f Snic PDF Server. 2.2 Additinal Requirements fr Windws Vista If yu are installing Snic PDF Server n Windws Vista, please make sure the User Accunt Cntrl is turned OFF i.e. disabled. 2.3 Starting the Print Spler Befre installing Snic PDF Server, please make sure the Windws service Print Spler is started (Cntrl Panel -> Administrative Tls -> Services). Snic PDF Server 3.0 3 Installing Snic PDF Server Imprtant ntes: Install as administratr the applicatin must be installed by the administratr i.e. the user accunt with Administratr privileges. Remve previus versin f Snic PDF Server if a versin f Snic PDF Server is already installed, it must be uninstalled first including all registry files left behind. In rder t begin installing the Snic PDF Server duble-clicks the executable file (setup.exe). The fllwing windw will be displayed. Figure 2: Installatin prcedure (step 1/7) Click Install and the autmated installatin f Visual C++ Runtime Libraries will begin. In a cuple f mments, the fllwing windw will be displayed. Page: 7 / 74

Snic PDF Server 3.0 The fllwing ptins are available: Installing t a default flder - if yu want t install t default flder (C:\Prgram Files\Investintech.cm Inc\Snic PDF Server 3.0), just click Next. Installing t a different flder t install t any ther flder, click Brwse and lcate the desired flder Checking the disk cst - yu als have the ptin f checking the available space n yur lcal discs/partitins (see sectin 3.1). The fllwing windw will be displayed nce yu click Next. Page: 9 / 74

Yu can still review the settings and chse t g back and mdify them. In case yu are satisfied with the chsen parameters, click Next t begin installing the prgram. The fllwing windw will be displayed. Snic PDF Server 3.0 3.1 Checking the Disk Cst The Disc Cst ptin allws yu t check the amunt f available space n yur hard disks and partitins and make it easier fr yu t decide where yu want the applicatin installed. Snic PDF Server 3.0 Disk Size shws the ttal size f the disk/partitin Available shws the available space n the disk/partitin Required shws the required amunt f space Difference shws hw much space yu will have left after installing Snic PDF Server 3.2 Chsing the Trial Optin Once yu cmplete the installatin, the windw fr chsing the desired trial ptin r purchasing the Snic PDF Server will be displayed. Figure 11: Chsing the trial ptin The fllwing ptins are available: Start Trial chse this ptin if yu want t be able t use the prgram withut registering i.e. just click it and the prgram will start; the limitatins t using this versin f the prgram are It can be used fr n lnger than 30 days Watermarks will be displayed thrughut the cnverted files Yu can cnvert 3 pages per dcument Full Trial chse this ptin if yu want t use a fully functinal versin f the prgram fr a perid f 30 days; yu will be required t fill ut the registratin frm Buy Nw chse this ptin t purchase the prgram Activate a license - 1. Click t this, cnsle will be started and yu will be able t press Activate nw r BUY NOW buttn depends n if yu get full trial r full (purchased) PIN. Page: 14 / 74

Snic PDF Server 3.0 4 Activating Snic PDF Server / Entering the PIN After purchasing the Snic PDF Server license, yu will receive a PIN number. In rder t enter it, click Activate License within the startup dialg. Figure 12: Chsing the Activate a License ptin. The main cnsle will be displayed and please press Activate Nw (tp-right crner). First enter the 12 digit PIN number yu have received (nte that the prgram will aut-ppulate the input field belw with a different PIN which yu shuld give t ur representative) 2. Then, call +1 416 920 5884 3. Next, prvide the number which is shwn in the input fields belw the phne number (immediately after yu enter the 12 digit PIN) 4. Finally, enter the authrizatin cde and click Activate Page: 17 / 74

Figure 14: Snic PDF Server Interface The fllwing ptins and parameters are available: Manage this is the screen displayed by default where yu have the ptin f starting the prgram either as service r as an applicatin Start Service click this buttn t start using Snic PDF Server as a service (see sectin 5) Start Applicatin click this buttn t start using Snic PDF Server as an applicatin (see sectin 11) Mnitr - the cnsle fr mnitring nging jbs (see sectin 13) Cnfigure - the ptins fr pening a cnfiguratin file, saving a backup cnfiguratin file, etc (see sectin 5.2) Jb Tickets the ptin fr managing the jb tickets, i.e. all cnversins (see sectin 11) Activate Prduct (enter PIN) (tp-right crner buttn) the ptin fr activating the prduct (see sectin 4) Lg file the ptin fr viewing the lg file (see sectin 5.1) Help file the ptin fr viewing the manual. Snic PDF Server 3.0 5.1 Viewing the lg file In rder t view the lg file, click Lg File ptin in the upper right crner f the main interface. Figure 16: Viewing the lg file (step 2/2) Each lg file cntains PDFServer.cfg at its beginning, i.e. the exact cnfiguratin used t start the server as well as infrmatin n which server mdules had been started. The lg file is then used fr lgging infrmatin n errrs, warnings and exceptins s that it can help slving issues that might have happened. Page: 19 / 74

Snic PDF Server 3.0 Nte: The maximum allwed size fr the lg file is 300 KB. In case this size is exceeded, a new lg file will be created autmatically. 5.2 Cnfiguring Snic PDF Server Snic PDF Server allws yu t save and use multiple prgram cnfiguratins. Snic PDF Server 3.0 Validate the ptin fr validating the cnfiguratin file (see sectin 5.2.2) 5.2.1 Opening the Cnfiguratin File In rder t pen and apply a previusly saved cnfiguratin file, chse ptin Open within the Cnfigure screen. Email the ptin fr setting up Snic PDF Server s that it cllects the files fr prcessing via email (see sectin 7). File Prcessing Flders the ptin fr managing the paths t the flders which will be used fr string files i.e. rganizing files accrding t their status (see sectin 8). Fine Tuning Prcessing the ptin fr perfrming fine adjustments (see sectin 9). Page: 22 / 74

Snic PDF Server 3.0 10 Advanced Methd fr Cllecting Files Except fr the simple methd described in previus sectins, there is als an advanced methd fr cllecting files. When using the simple methd fr clleting and prcessing files, users send a file which shuld be prcessed as an attachment. The email message is sent t the previusly setup receiving address and a previusly specified jb ticket is applied. When using an advanced methd, instead f nly sending the file which shuld be prcessed, the users als send the jb ticket which cntains instructins n hw the attached file shuld be prcessed. The Snic PDF Server will autmatically detect the file which shuld be prcessed as well as the jb ticket and apply it t the attached file. Befre yu can start managing any f the prgram settings yu need t lad this cnfiguratin file first. By default there is nly ne cnfiguratin, called default, but the Snic PDF Server allws yu t create multiple cnfiguratins and use them as needed.
