Overview Deleting an object removes it from Documentum. To delete content, you must have the DELETE permission, the most powerful permission in the system. If you attempt to delete an object but do not have sufficient permission, you will receive the following warning message: You cannot delete the object because you do not have delete permission on this document. Security Info You need DELETE permission to delete content from the repository. Quick Tip Documentum does not currently have a recycle bin. In the meantime, if you need to restore content that you have deleted, you must contact the Corporate Helpdesk within 30 days of deleting the content. After 30 days, the content will be permanently purged from the database. 2

1 Delete a Single File 1 Select a file in the Content pane to delete. 2 Click the FILE menu, and then select Delete. Shortcut Right-click, or press Control (CTRL) and click, and then select Delete. 3 The Delete screen appears. To delete only the version selected in the Content pane, select Selected Version. To delete all of the existing versions of the document, select All Versions. 4 Click the button. 3

5 The selected file is deleted. The deleted successfully confirmation message appears in the Status bar. NOTES If the file selected in the Content pane is a linked file, the Delete screen will contain an additional default option. If you want to delete: - only the linked file, then leave the default option, Just the link to..., selected. - the selected version of the file in all linked locations, then select Selected Version. - all versions of the file in all linked locations, then select All Versions. Click the button to complete the deletion. 4

2 Delete Multiple Files 1 Select to delete multiple files in the Content pane. 2 Click the FILE menu, and then select Delete. Quick Tip Press the Shift or Control (CTRL) button on your keyboard to select multiple files. Shortcut Right-click, or press Control (CTRL) and click, and then select Delete. 3 The Delete screen appears containing options for the first file selected. To delete only the version selected in the Content pane, select Selected Version. To delete all of the existing versions of the document, select All Versions. 5

4 Choose a Version option: To select the version options for each file, click the button, and select Selected Version or All Versions. Continue to click the button until you have selected options for each file. Click the button to complete the deletion of the selected files. To change or review the version options selected for each file, click the button. Click the button to complete the deletion of the selected files. To apply the default, Selected Version, to all files, click the button, and then click the button on the Confirm screen. 6

5 The selected files are deleted. The deleted successfully confirmation message appears in the Status bar. 7

NOTES If one or more of the files selected in the Content pane is a linked file, the Delete screen will contain an additional default option for those linked files. If you want to delete: - only the linked file, then leave the default option, Just the link to... selected. - the selected version of the file in all linked locations, then select Selected Version. - all versions of the file in all linked locations, then select All Versions. Click the button to review options for each file. Click the button to complete the deletion of the selected files. 8

3 Delete a Single Folder Please be careful when deleting folders, as you could be deleting a lot of content. The Documentum default setting for deleting folders is to Delete the Selected Folder and All Sub Folders and Objects and to Delete All Versions. 3 The Delete screen appears. Select the appropriate options, and then click the button. If the folder is empty, select Delete only the selected folder. If the folder contains subfolders and/or objects, select Delete the Selected Folder and All Sub Folders and Objects. If the folder contains only current versions of its objects, select Delete Current Versions. If the folder contains multiple versions of its objects, select Delete All Versions. Note When you delete a folder that contains linked content, those links will be deleted when the folder is deleted. If that content is linked to other folders that are not being deleted, those folders and links remain. NOTE When you delete a folder, the default options that are automatically selected on the Delete screen are: Folders: Delete the Selected Folder and All Sub Folders and Objects Versions: Delete All Versions 10

4 The selected folder is deleted. The deleted successfully confirmation message appears in the Status bar. NOTE If you select Delete Current Versions and non-current versions exist in the folder, the folder will not be deleted. An Error screen will appear. 11

4 Delete Multiple Folders Please be careful when deleting folders, as you could be deleting a lot of content. 3 The Delete screen appears, containing options for the first folder selected. Select Folder and Version options if the folder: is empty, select Delete only the selected folder. contains content, select Delete the Selected Folder and All Sub Folders and Objects. contains only current versions of its files, select Delete Current Versions. contains multiple versions of its files, select Delete All Versions. Note The Delete screen displays the name of the folder in the title at the top of the screen. Additionally, in parentheses, it refers to the folder as an object. In this example the title is Delete: Fruit (Object 1 of 2). Fruit is actually the first folder of 2. 13

4 Choose a button. To select options for each folder selected, click the To change or review the options selected for each folder, click the button. button. To apply the default options to all folders, click the button, and then click the button on the Confirm screen. Note When you delete a folder that contains linked content, those links will be deleted when the folder is deleted. If that content is linked to other folders that are not being deleted, those folders and links remain. NOTE You can delete a folder that contains up to 10,000 objects. If you attempt to delete a folder that is over the 10,000 limit, a warning message appears: Folder cannot be deleted as the total descendants of this folder are over 10,000. Delete the subfolders in batches or contact the corporate helpdesk for assistance. 15
