Features/Enhancements 4. Bug fixes 5. Knwn Issues 6. Firmware upgrade restrictins n PDUs in chain 7. Recmmendatins 8. Firmware upgrade fr Avcent PM PDU running V_1.2.0 and lder Update Instructins This firmware can be installed ver any previus release f the Avcent Pwer Management Distributin Unit (PM PDU). The firmware can be updated thrugh either the appliance built-in web interface r the DSView 3 management sftware, which requires the PDU plug-in. Firmware upgrade may fail due t lack f enugh memry t cmplete the prcess. This is likely t happen n appliances running n versin 2.0.0.20 r lder. If the upgrade prcess fails, it is recmmended t release memry and retry the upgrade again befre rebting the unit. T release the memry, please type the fllwing cmmand nce lgged in as rt in the unit: /etc/init.d/pwer-display restart Please refer t the installer/user guide fr detailed instructins n hw t update the PDU t this versin. The PDU firmware prvides an internal mechanism which preserves existing cnfiguratin when upgrading firmware; hwever, it is strngly recmmended that yu back-up system cnfiguratin befre the firmware versin is upgraded. DSView 3 sftware versin 3.7.2 (r greater) is required. PDU plug-in versin 2.0.1 is recmmended. After PDU firmware has been upgraded t versin 2.0.1, it is mandatry t clear the Web brwser cache (e.g. press Ctrl F5 in Internet Explrer r Firefx ) f any system which intends t be cnnected t the appliance Web interface. NOTE: The factry default passwrd fr rt is linux. The factry default passwrd fr admin is. Features/Enhancements Please refer t the installer/user guide fr details abut features supprted by the PDU. The features and enhancements supprted by this versin f the PDU include: 1. Extended supprt fr SNMP vendr MIB t include setup f pwer management parameters: PDU chain (pmpwermgmtserialtable): enable/disable buzzer, syslg, SW vercurrent prtectin; cnfiguring plling rate and pwer cycle interval. PDU table (pmpwermgmtpdutable): cnfiguring the PDU ID, setting all levels f current threshlds, resetting its cnfiguratin t factry default r rebting the PDU. Extra infrmatin was als included, like alarm status, type f measurement fr pwer, vltage and pwer-factr, as well as energy inf. Outlets table (pmpwermgmtoutletstable): utlet name, pst-n and pst-ff delays and all levels f current threshlds are cnfigurable. Extra infrmatin was als included, like alarm status, type f measurement fr pwer, vltage and pwer-factr, as well as energy inf. Phases and banks (pmpwermgmtphasestable and pmpwermgmtbankstable): all levels f current threshlds are cnfigurable. Extra infrmatin was als included, like alarm status, type f measurement fr pwer, vltage and pwer-factr. Envirnment sensrs (pmpwermgmtsensrstable): all levels f threshlds are cnfigurable. Extra infrmatin added includes sensrs type and alarm status. Cnfiguring pwer management parameters using SNMP are effective upn cmmand cmpletin but they are nt saved t flash, thus nt persisted thrugh rebts. A new OID (pmpwermgmtserialtablesave) was als intrduced t save changes dne in the PDUs. Depending n the PDU mdel sme f the OIDs may nt apply. In such case SNMP queries fr thse OIDs will return 0 (zer) r N/A based n its syntax. All new and mdified OIDs are defined and detailed in the PDU MIB file. 2. Supprt cnfiguratin via btp request. The Btp Cnfiguratin Retrieval ptin allws the entire unit cnfiguratin t be retrieved ver Btp/TFTP during bt and during DHCP renewal. There are tw ways t push a cnfiguratin during a DHCP request/renewal. The cnfiguratin can be sent as file created by the Save Cnfiguratin appliance system tl, r it can be sent as a CLI script t be executed under the cmmand line scripting interface. When using the CLI apprach, it is recmmended t create the file by executing the list_cnfiguratin cmmand nly ver the specific ndes that are affected. Althugh this feature is enabled by default it requires the saved cnfiguratin file t be available in a TFTP server as well as changes in the DHCP server cnfiguratin t trigger the file transfer. 3. OpenSSL upgrade frm versin 0.9.8k t 0.9.8q, which includes fixes fr the fllwing security issues: CVE-2010-4180, CVE-2010-4252, CVE-2010-3864, CVE-2010-2939, CVE-2010-0742, CVE-2010-0740, CVE-2010-0433, CVE-2009-3245, CVE-2009-4355, CVE-2009-1378, CVE-2009-1377, CVE-2009-1379, CVE-2009-3555
4. Apache upgrade frm versin 2.2.9 t versin 2.2.17 because f the fllwing security issues: CVE- 2010-1452, CVE-2010-0408, CVE-2010-0425, CVE-2010-0434, CVE-2009-3555, CVE-2009-2699, CVE-2009-3095, CVE-2009-3094, CVE-2009-2412, CVE-2009-1891, CVE-2009-1195, CVE-2009-1890, CVE-2009-1191, CVE-2009-0023, CVE-2009-1955, CVE-2009-1956, CVE-2008-2939. Bug fixes Firmware versin 2.0.1.8 Fix resurce allcatin in utlet driver. 65679: Apply last saved utlet status and pst-n delays when unit is turned n (cld start). 65737: Display appliance serial number in DSView Unit page. It requires deleting and re-adding the PDU in the DSView. Firmware versin 2.0.1.5 62596: Telnet, SNMP and NTP culd nt restart after restring cnfiguratin. 63615: Cnfiguratin f date and time issues that caused the display f warning message The date and time specified is utside f the DSView. DSView 3 will nt able t manage this appliance 62899: The SNMP answer fr sysobjectid is the Prduct Object ID. 64068: Cnfirmatin message t turn n/ff utlets refers t individual utlet rather than the entire PDU. 58209: Extended expiratin date f the appliance viewer applet certificate. Knwn Issues This release cntains the fllwing knwn issues: 57435: Outlet status remains ON in case f a blwn fuse in the bank that the utlet belngs t. The blwn fuse indicatin shws nly in the bank level. 57437: The unit is unable t prvide values fr the bank B and its utlets when a blwn fuse happens in bank A f a PDU, thereafter shwing N/A fr the measurements in that bank. 55876: Due t internal value cnversins, cnfiguring threshlds fr temperature envirnment sensrs may result in a slightly different value cmpared t the cnfigured value 55667: During firmware upgrade f any PDU in chain, the serial prt (ut/aux) will be exclusively allcated t that prcess, and n PDU in the chain will accept cmmands. Due t the size f the firmware and the time required t transfer the file thrugh the serial prt, chained PDUs will nt be shwn in fr the PDU list as lng as the prcess lasts. There is n indicatin that the PDU in the chain is being upgraded r when the prcess finishes. 57369: In sme cases, upgrading the firmware f a Cyclades Intelligent Pwer Distributin Unit (IPDU) will cause the entire chain t mmentarily disappear. The chain is autmatically rediscvered when the firmware upgrade prcess is cmpleted. 55691/55739/55740/55743: Cnfiguratin r peratin in lng chains may delay up t a few minutes t cmplete. 57093: Changing the cnfiguratin f a chained PDU may shw a message abut a cnnectin lst t the PDU. The cmmunicatin is autmatically resumed after a few secnds. Detectin f Cyclades IPDUs with 2-segment running firmware versin 1.9.1 will fail if the unit is daisy chained after a Cyclades IPDU running firmware versin 1.9.2.
Firmware upgrade restrictins n PDUs in chain All PDUs in the chain must be running at least versin 2.0.0 t allw fr firmware upgrade via serial prt. Upgrading the PM PDU firmware when the unit is cnnected t the serial prt f a cnsle server is als pssible fr the fllwing prducts and versins: ACS 6000 advanced cnsle server versin 2.2.0 r newer. ACS 5000 advanced cnsle server versin 3.3.0 r newer. ACS advanced cnsle server versin 3.3.0 r newer. Upgrade scenaris, assuming PDUs running versin 1.3.0 r lder: 1. One PDU (1000, 2000 r 3000 PDU) cnnected directly t the Ethernet netwrk, with r withut multiple Cyclades IPDUs (42, 10, 10i, 20, r 20i IPDUs, and s n) chained t it; this scenari supprts firmware upgrade n all the PDUs. 2. One PDU (1000, 2000 r 3000 PDU) cnnected directly t the Ethernet, with ne r mre PDUs chained t it; this scenari nly supprts firmware upgrade n the PDU that is directly cnnected t the Ethernet. 3. One cnsle server r DSR KVM ver IP switch with ne r mre PDUs (1000, 2000 r 3000 PDU) chained t it; this scenari des nt supprt firmware upgrade n the PDUs. Recmmendatins It is strngly recmmended that all Avcent PDUs in a chain are upgraded t this released versin. It is strngly recmmended that all Cyclades IPDUs in a chain are upgraded t versin 1.9.2 In a PDU chain f mixed types, in rder t minimize traffic n the chain serial cnnectins, it is mre effective t put the appliances with a higher number f utlets at the tp f chain. Fr example, units with 24 r 20 utlets shuld be placed befre units with 10, 6 r 3 utlets. Firmware upgrade fr Avcent PDU running versin 1.2.0 and lder This special prcedure is nly required fr firmware upgrade f PDU running versin 1.2.0 and lder. Please make sure the PDU is cnnected t the netwrk befre starting the upgrade prcess. D nt use DSView 3 sftware t perfrm the upgrade. Instead, perfrm the upgrade using the unit web interface but d nt rebt when it finishes, even if the result shws success.
Once the upgrade is successfully dne, lgin t the unit as rt and run the fllwing steps: [rt@mypm ~]# /sbin/checkbt /tmp/avimage > /tmp/ubt.zip Checksum must return OK. [rt@mypm ~]# gunzip -c /tmp/ubt.zip > /tmp/ubt Return n errrs [rt@mypm ~]# cat /tmp/ubt > /dev/mtdblck7 Return n errrs D nt rebt the appliance if any f the steps abve return errr. In such case, yu can repeat the steps abve, r start ver the entire upgrade prcess frm web interface by remving the files created: [rt@mypm ~]# rm -f /tmp/av* /tmp/ubt* Firmware upgrade frm versin1.2.0 and lder requires a CPU reset (buttn lcated in the frnt panel), that demands physical access t the unit. Please fllw these steps t restart the unit after firmware upgrade. NOTE: Fllw these steps nly after the firmware is dwnladed and installed. Otherwise, the appliance cnsle will nt wrk prperly due t a mismatch n the prt speed, preventing the unit frm wrking in a chain. a. Lgin t the appliance s cnsle as rt user. b.
