Accelerating Metro Huawei MPLS-TP Solution HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD.

The metro transport network faces the special challenges as follows. Complex services: Multi-services coexist such as multiple types of wireless services from GSM services, UMTS services, to LTE services, and large-scale leased line services. The bandwidth of the services is from less than 10 Mbit/s to greater than 10 Gbit/s. The transport network should support unified transmission for the diversified services and flexible scheduling in order to satisfy the need of adddrop services at each site. Bandwidth bottleneck: With the exponential increase of traffic, the metro transport network has caused a bandwidth bottleneck. In contrast, the backbone transport network has ultra broadband capacity using the WDM technology and the access network implement GE to home using FTTX and LTE technologies. Difficult O&M: It is more difficult to maintain a larger scale network with a larger number of sites faced in the LTE era. Carriers are looking for a more convenient O&M mode. A metro transport solution therefore needs to be tailored for complex services, to provide an ultra broadband transmission capability and support easy O&M.

Huawei s MPLS-TP solution is tailored for metro transport, designed based on Huawei's deep understanding of services and network requirements in metro. The solution is based on MPLS-TP, a connection-oriented packet transport technology that is decoupled from IP and combines the transport requirements such as strong OAM and protection, required by carriers to increase network efficiency while also reducing CAPEX and OPEX costs. The MPLS-TP solution also integrates other various advanced technologies, such as universal switch, smart line transport, PID (photonic integrated device) and TP- Assist, and provides carriers with a cost-efficient and carrier-class network, which features smart transport, ultra broadband, and easy O&M.

Smart Transport: Achieving High Efficiency and Carefree Evolution The MPLS-TP solution provides smart transport based on universal switch and smart line card for all types of services in any possible mix, including Ethernet, ATM, TDM, and future services, making the investment once for eternal. Universal switch can switch services at any granularity in their original formats, such as at any level of packet and TDM, high efficiency and best performance, 0 waste of bandwidth. Smart line card can provide universal transport for multiservices in one port, carefree evolution among different types of services, such as from 100% TDM to 100% packet, 0 waste of investment. STM -1 FE E1 OTT SAN Packet Packet Universal Switch Smart Line Card 40G/ 100G TDM Packet 0 20 40 60 80 100 Evolution smoothly from 100% TDM to 100% PKT

Ultra Broadband: Eliminating Bandwidth Bottlenecks The metro transport network has its special aspects such as limited distances between sites, a large number of sites, frequent service changes, and high sensitivity to occupied space and power consumption. This requires the ultra broadband transport solution should satisfy the tailored demands from the metro. The advanced PID (photonic integrated device) technology is tailored for the cost-efficient ultra broadband metro transport with SDH-like O&M and WDM-like capacity. Compared with traditional WDM technology, it greatly simplify design at the photonic layer by eliminating wavelength planning and OSNR calculating, removing optical fiber amplifiers and DCMs, and reducing patch cords and fiber operations. It can provide 40Gbit/s, 100Gbit/s and even larger capacity in one port for 80 kilometers transmission without any other auxiliary units such as DCMs and amplifiers. Using PID can also reduce space occupation by 50% and power consumption by 50%. 40G/100G/ 400G PID (Photonic Integrated Device) Tailored Metro UBB Enabler MUX N*OTU DEMUX UBB: Ultra Broadband Easily Bring 40G/100G to Metro Green, Slimmer, Efficient PID Inside PID Inside Past Now 80km OA & DCM free 40G /100G Save 50% of space 50% of power consumption 70% of the fiber connection

Easy O&M: Simplifying the Large-scale Packet Network The MPLS-TP solution launched the world's first intuitive O&M solution TP-Assist, which greatly simplifies the planning, deployment, and maintenance of the large-scale packet network, helping carriers align with current organizational processes and large-scale work procedures. Traffic based crystal clear network O&M is supported with visual network-level view, graphical format to display end-to-end service configuration, performance and status, applicable even for complex scenarios including IPTV and embms transport scenarios. Intelligently locating 92% failure, visualized end-to-end bandwidth, and analyzable and predicable network resources can be achieved for intelligent O&M. TP-Assist Comprehensively Simplify the Packet O&M Powerful Tools Any Media Instrument Free Carefree SmartBits Maintain 92% Failure Located Crystal Clear Network

User-Centric Flexible Applications Based on the smart transport feature and ultra broadband transport capability, the MPLS-TP solution offers carriers a cost-efficient and future-proof transport solution with easy O&M. Some key applications supported are as follows. Enterprise, Residential 2G, 3G, LTE Wimax GE OSN 500 OSN 580 OSN 3500 40G 40G STM-64 OSN 580 OSN 7500II 40GE 10GE OSN 7500II OSN 7500II OSN 580 OSN 550 Metro Access Metro Aggregation Metro Core CE/SR BRAS BSC/RNC/aGW

Mobile Backhaul The MPLS-TP solution is perfectly compatible with Huawei's IP microwave solution and therefore makes possible an end-to-end MPLS- TP solution, which provides unified transport for 2G, 3G, Wimax, and LTE services and supports media-independent end-to-end OAM, QoS, protection and synchronization functions. With the IGMP Snooping protocol and MPLS-TP ring protection, the MPLS-TP solution can provide highly efficient and highly reliable transport for the LTE new service embms (Evolved Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service). Leased Line Transport The MPLS-TP solution uses MSTP based rigid pipe to provide physically isolated and bandwidth-guaranteed transport for important Ethernet and TDM services. In addition, the MPLS-TP solution uses the MPLS-TP based flexible pipe to support high-efficiency transmission for emerging Ethernet services. Broadband Service Transport The MPLS-TP solution provides efficient ultra broadband service aggregation and grooming. With the IGMP Snooping protocol and MPLS-TP ring protection, it can help achieve the highly efficient and highly available transport for the IPTV services. Transport Solutions for Enterprises Many large enterprises (such as electricity, transportation, and broadcast companies, and governmental departments) deploy networks for internal and external communications. The MPLS-TP solution provides reliable and flexible transmission of real-time and critical services using high-efficiency packet transport and high-quality TDM transport.
