IRIS Hosted Systems Apple Mac Installation Guide Please follow the procedure outlined below to configure a connection to our network from a Macintosh It is assumed that you have correctly downloaded and installed the required connection software prior to performing this procedure (A link for the software can be found on the Support pages of www.irishosted.co.uk) If you have any comments or questions that are not addressed here please contact our support department (contact details can be found on the Support pages of www.irishosted.co.uk) Configure the Macintosh Remote Desktop Client Once the RDC file has downloaded the Macintosh will automatically install the software and leave a window open with an icon called "Remote Desktop Connection" (shown below) Leave this on screen and open your Applications folder (this is located on the Finder menu) With both folders visible drag the icon for "Remote Desktop Connection" into the Applications folder Double click on the "Remote Desktop Connection" icon and the following screen will appear
Double click on the "Remote Desktop Connection" icon from the four shown to get the window shown below Click on "Options" tab at the top of the window to be presented with the screen below
Enter the Computer as 213.205.139.202 or farm.irishosted.co.uk Username = Your supplied username (e.g. wd3421) Password = DO NOT ENTER YOUR PASSWORD Domain = MSP Please do NOT click "Save As.." at this time We will return to this screen shortly For now click on "Display" tab at the top of the window to show the screen below
Using the "Choose the size of your remote desktop" option it is possible to set how large a screen will be presented when you connect to the hosted systems We would recommend "Full Screen" Set "Open remote desktop window on" to "Main Display" Changing the number of colours available (shown as colors(sic) in the example above) on the remote system can also be selected NB The selections related to the size of the remote desktop and the number of colours shown both influence the speed of your connection. Reducing the size and number of colours chosen will increase the speed, increasing them will have the opposite effect Click on the "Local Resources" tab at the top of the screen to be presented with the screen below
Using this screen it is possible to decide which of your local resources will be available when connected to the hosted network "Remote Computer Sound" is disabled by the system, any changes to this setting will be ignored In the "Local devices" section please tick both "Disk Drives" and "Printers" to have your Macintosh folders and printers available when you are connected You may also select which of the special Macintosh keys function as the ALT key when connected to our systems (ALT performs similar functions to the command button for Windows users) Click on the "Performance" tab at the top of the window to be presented with the screen below
The options shown in the example above show the optimum selection for speed of access Enabling any of the following options will reduce the speed of connection :- "Desktop Background" "Show contents of window while dragging" "Menu and window animation"
Please click on the "General" tab at the top of the window to be presented with the screen below Click on the "Save As..." button for the following screen to appear You should choose an appropriate name for the connection at this point however we would recommend that the icon is always saved to your desktop as shown in the example above Click Save Using the Connection Once the icon has been saved to the desktop connecting is straightforward. Double click on the saved icon and you will automatically be connected to the hosted network. At this point you will be required to enter your username and password for access to your data
