Library ebooks and Your B&N Nook When using your B&N Nook for the first time, you will need to register for an account at www.bn.com. This will authenticate your Nook for use. During registration at B&N, they ask for a credit card number, but you do not need to provide this to obtain an account. Also, when first using your Nook to obtain library ebooks and audiobooks, download the Overdrive Media Console, and Adobe Digital Editions to your computer. Once this is completed, search the library web site to download ebooks and audiobooks to your computer. Once the items are downloaded, use the Overdrive Media Console and the Adobe Digital Editions software to transfer them to your Nook. The following steps explain the process. 1. To download the Overdrive Media Console, go to www.overdrive.com. 2. Click on the Software/Apps in upper right hand corner. 3. Scroll down and click on Overdrive Media Console link. 4. On the right-hand side, choose what version of Overdrive you want to download to your desktop computer. (If you have an Apple computer select MAC, all other types of computers please choose Windows.)
5. Once you have selected an Overdrive version (make sure you have clicked on the circle next to the media type) click Download Now. (See above picture.) 6. This pop-up may appear, if so click Run. 7. When the Setup Wizard appears, follow the directions. 8. Once you have completed the setup, a shortcut icon will appear on your desktop. 9. Download the Adobe Digital Editions software found at http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/ to your computer. 10. Next, click Download Now.
11. Click Install. 12. Once Adobe is done installing follow the instructions on the setup. Once completed, Adobe Digital Editions will open automatically. You will be asked to either create an Adobe account or type in your username and password. 13. If you do not have an Adobe account, click Get an Adobe ID Online. If you do have an account skip step 18. 14. Click on Create an Adobe Account and follow the instructions.
15. On the bottom of computer screen click on the Adobe Digital Editions tab. 16. Type in your Adobe ID (which is your email address) and your password and click Activate and then Finish. 17. Once this screen appears, you are ready to download your ebook to the computer. 18. The library web site is located at http://wlnonline.lib.overdrive.com. The Login ID is westmoreland.midas.preview and the Password is m3diaforall.
19. To look for an ebook you can either Browse the Catalog or do a Quick Search. 20. If you are interested in only seeing what ebooks are available, you can select the Advanced Search under the Quick Search box and scroll to bottom and checkmark Only Show Titles with Copies Available. 21. Next either Add to Basket or Join Waiting List. (This will place book on hold for you.)
22. Once you have clicked on Add to Basket, you have the option to Continue Browsing or to Checkout. 23. Choose Proceed to Checkout and the Log In page will appear. Select your library from the list below. 24. Type in your library card number, then select Log In. 25. The My Basket screen will appear, then select Confirm check out.
26. Next, click on Download to download your ebook. Click Open when asked. 27. Once your ebook has downloaded to Adobe Digital Editions on your computer, the screen should look something like this. 28. Connect your B&N Nook to your computer using the USB port and the USB cable, that came with your Nook.
31. Once you have connected and activated your Nook to your computer, Adobe Digital Edition will show an icon on the bottom left-hand corner. It will be called either Nook or Media. 32. Left click on the book you want to upload onto your Nook and drag the book until the Nook is highlighted and a green plus sign + appears in the center of the book. Release the mouse and the book will begin uploading onto the Nook (This may take several minutes, be patient!) 33. When your book has finished uploading, you can disconnect your Nook by selecting My Computer on the desktop.
34. Right click on the Nook under Devices with Removable Storage. 35. Next, click on Eject. This will allow you to disconnect your Nook safely from the computer.
Nook 36. To find the book on your Nook see items 37 to 40. Press the power button located on the top of the Nook. (If you have a Nookcolor see steps 41 to 46.) 37. At the bottom of your Nook (the touch screen part) touch my library. 38. Your documents will appear in the top part of the Nook. 39. Touching the arrow keys will enable you to scroll through all the titles on your nook. When you are ready to select, make sure the book is highlighted (on the Nook it has a line above and below the title) and touch the button with the circle o in the center (last button on the right side on the bottom screen.)
40. To flip through pages use the arrow buttons on either side of the paper screen. Nook Color 41. To find the book on your Nookcolor, press the power button (located on the left side of your Nookcolor) or the Nook symbol at the bottom of the Nookcolor. 42. Touch the Menu button, located at the bottom of the Nookcolor screen. 43. Touch library, the farthest icon on the left. 44. In the library folder, touch my files in the top right-hand corner.
45. Select the digital edition folder and locate your book. 46. To flip through pages, just tap the left side of the screen to go forward, and tap the right side of the screen to go backward, and tap the center to locate an exact page number. Revised 3/14/11
