Weebly Tutorial Tutorial #1: Signing Up: Welcome to this tutorial. I m going to show you how to sign up for an account with Weebly so you can start building your eportfolio. Go to www.weebly.com. You can see that I m already there. Pick a username and password that you ll remember, because you ll need to input both of these each time you log into Weebly. Also, you ll need to put in your email address. You might want to read through the terms of service before you begin. Click on Sign Up. Tutorial #2: Basic Outline: Welcome to this tutorial. You ve successfully created a free account with Weebly, and now you need to set up your eportfolio. Enter the site Title: Student Name s eportfolio Choose your Website Domain: Use a Subdomain of Weebly.com o Studentnameeportfolio.weebly.com Right now, your site has only one page, the Home page. You ll need to add other pages that will show up in the eportfolio navigation. Add a new web page with the pages tab here. Click on Add page, give the page a name. We want this page to say My Goals. Then click save. We want another page with the heading General Education. We want another page with the heading Learning Outside the Classroom. We want the final page to say Resume. Next, we want your home page to say Welcome instead of Home, so click on the Home page button and rename this page to say Welcome. Save Settings Now click on Publish to publish these changes. This is a good time to pick a design for your site. Click on the Designs tab. Weebly has many different designs to choose from. Just hover your mouse over one of the designs, and Weebly will show you what it

would look like. If the design has a photo in it, like this one, you will be able to replace that photo with one of your own. Go ahead and pick a design now by clicking on the one you want. Tutorial #3: Your Welcome Page: Welcome to this tutorial. You ve set up the basic outline of your eportfolio. Now let s get to work on your Welcome page, and while we do that, we ll learn how Weebly works. You can always see what page you re on by looking right here. We re on the home page, which happens to be your Welcome page. Our Welcome page doesn t have any content, but we can easily fix that. Make sure you have the Elements tab selected. The basic elements that you ll frequently use are listed first. Other elements are grouped under these categories. Grab a paragraph with title element, drag it down to the content area, and then let go. You now have a text window within which to write. Notice that you also have a ribbon of standard word processing tools whenever you click in the text window. Let s type a heading and format it the way we want. Now click in the paragraph section and type a welcome message to those who visit your eportfolio. You might give them an idea of what they ll find in your eportfolio, your work at WHS, and so forth. Grab the paragraph with picture element and drag it over to the workspace just below that. Title the heading About Me. Here you ll introduce yourself to the professors and others with whom you ll share your eportfolio. I m going to paste something in that I ve already written. Notice that the text wraps around the picture. Now I d like to add a photo to the About Me section, so I ll click on the sample image. Then I can select a photo of myself that I have stored on my computer. Remember, you do not have to put your photo in the eportfolio, nor do you have to put your full name or other detailed information. Pretend it s the first day of class and you are introducing yourself to your classmates. What would you tell them?

Tutorial #4: Welcome back to the Weebly tutorials. Remember last time I showed you how to set up your Welcome page. For this tutorial, I want to show you how to set up the General Education page of the portfolio. This is really quite easy. Click on the General Education page. Drag in a paragraph with title element and type Coursework. Make it bigger. Bold it. Center it. Maybe put a space after it. Add a sentence that introduces the classes below. Drag in a multiple column divider below the paragraph; choose 4 columns and a paragraph element for each column. Name each column by the year you took the class. Type in the name of each General Education class, splitting the names between the four columns. Now, as you take courses that fulfill your graduation requirements, you ll put a signature assignment and reflective writing into your eportfolio for each class. And you ll do that on a separate page that you ll point to from each of these headings. I ll show you how to do that in the next tutorial. Tutorial #5: Welcome back to the Weebly tutorials. Today we re going to cover the core skill of your eportfolio putting in a signature assignment and reflective writing. Let s say that you are taking a course that satisfies the art elective requirement for General Education. You ve completed your assignment and you re ready to put it in your eportfolio. Here s what you do: First, notice that if we tried to put all our assignments and reflective writing into the General Education page itself, that page would end up overcrowded and not look very attractive. So what we re going to do is create a hidden page for each Gen Ed requirement, and point to it from the corresponding heading. So we need a hidden page for Graphics. Add a new web page with the Pages tab, like we did for the main pages in the eportfolio. Click on Add Page.

Call this new page Graphics, and toggle the switch to hide page in navigation window. That s what s going to make it a hidden page, because we don t want the page to show up in the eportfolio s main navigation ribbon. Click on save settings. Click Edit Page Create a heading on your new page called Graphics. Next, you want a brief description of the assignment that you did for this course. Let s assume you created a Photoshop file. Now, below that brief description, drag a File element and upload your assignment. The File element is located in the Multimedia section of the Elements tab. The people you show your eportfolio to will now be able to see the quality of your work. When you ve finished, click on publish. Okay, so you ve created a hidden page within your eportfolio called Graphics. Now, go back to the General Education page. Highlight the heading for Graphics and click on the little chain link symbol that means insert hyperlink. Point the hyperlink to the hidden Graphics page you just created. Click on publish again. Now preview your Gen Ed page to see if the hyperlink works like you want it. Do that by clicking on the Settings tab and clicking on the address of your eportfolio. You ll see that the hyperlink works just like you want it. Tutorial #6: Welcome back to the Weebly tutorials. Last time I showed you how to upload a signature assignment in the form of a Photoshop document. You can use the file tool to upload other kinds of files like mp3 audio files, pdf files, Powerpoints, and so forth. However, please note that as of this date, Weebly s file upload limit is 5 mb. Today I m going to show you how to add photo galleries and videos to your eportfolio. Let s pretend you ve got some good photos of work you ve done in a Fine Arts class. I ve created a hidden page for my Fine Arts coursework and linked it to the Fine Arts heading on the Gen Ed page. For information on how to do that, refer to Tutorial #5.

Weebly has a very nice gallery feature. Drag the photo gallery to the workspace and upload the photos you d like to appear in your eportfolio. If you experience problems, it is probably because you ve bumped up against Weebly s 5 mb upload limit. Shrink your photos using photo editing software, and then try again. You can also host a Flickr slide show on your Weebly eportfolio. Create a free account with Flickr, upload your photos there, and tag them with unique keywords for each slide show you plan to have in your eportfolio. Drag the Flickr Slideshow element to your workspace. Then click on it to edit it. Put in your Flickr email log in and the keyword tag of the photos you want in your gallery. Adjust the settings the way you want them. The photo slide show should show up in your Weebly eportfolio. As you can see, this takes a little planning on your part to upload the photos first in Flickr, put the right tagwords on the photos you want in this gallery, and then go into Weebly to create the photo gallery. Weebly can also host videos from YouTube. Again, you ll have to have an account with YouTube and have already uploaded your video there. Drag the YouTube video element onto your page. Click once on the placeholder video. Now, in a different window, go to YouTube and find your video that you already uploaded there. Copy the video s URL and paste it into the Weebly YouTube element. Now just click on the Weebly page outside of the YouTube element. Publish your eportfolio. If you preview your site, you ll see how the video is now embedded in your eportfolio. Please remember to only put your own WHS related photos and video into your eportfolio, and do not violate the intellectual property rights of others. Tutorial #7: Welcome back to the Weebly tutorials. I m going to talk about a few other aspects of Weebly.

First of all, Weebly has a very nice Help feature located right here. The Help Center has a range of written tutorials that show you how to do just about anything with your site. Next, let s talk password protection. You have a password to go in and edit your site. With the standard, free Weebly account, you cannot password protect the viewing of the site by others. Many students don t worry about this because: A, they know that their eportfolio is a public representation of their work at WHS, and they haven t put anything too personal in there. B, they only share their eportfolio URL with faculty, friends, and family. C, they realize that their eportfolio is actually very difficult to find on the Web as long as they don t fill in the Search Engine Optimization section of the settings tab. See, just leave these all blank, and your eportfolio will be more difficult to find. If being able to password protect your site is important to you, you have two choices: Choose another eportfolio platform like Yola or Wordpress. Or you can upgrade to the pro version of Weebly. You can do the latter in the General Settings section, where you can see the added features of Weebly Pro and the reasonable cost. Weebly is a great eportfolio platform, free or Pro, and I hope you enjoy using it. Tutorial #8: Welcome back to the Weebly tutorials. I want to show you how to share a particular page in your eportfolio with your instructor, with family, or with friends. You share your eportfolio with someone else by sending them its URL, which stands for Uniform Resource Locator. It s the address of your eportfolio. The first thing to note is that you cannot send your instructor the URL that is indicated here when you are editing your eportfolio. Here s what you do: Click on your Settings tab and then in the General Settings section click on the address of your eportfolio. That will send you to your actual eportfolio. You might want to memorize this URL for future reference.

Navigate to the page that you would like to share with your instructor, family member, or friend. Copy the URL for that page and email it. Now the recipient of your email can click on that link and go straight to the page you want them to look at.
