Geist Upgradeable 2 (GU2) Rack Power Distribution Unit (PDU) GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS 1.0 GENERAL 1.1 SUMMARY This specification defines the electrical and mechanical characteristics and requirements for a continuous-duty, upgradeable rack power distribution system. The PDU, hereafter referred to as GU2, provides high-quality distribution and management of AC power to mission critical equipment. 1.2 STANDARDS GU2 is designed in accordance with the applicable sections of the following regional documents and standards: NORTH AMERICA 120V, 120/208V, 208V, 240V, 240/415V Units (Single & Three Phase) - UL 60950-1, 2 nd Edition, 2014-10-14: Information Technology Equipment - CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60950-1-07, 2 nd Edition, 2014-10: Information Technology Equipment - FCC, Title 47, Part 15 Subpart B for Class A operation as defined by ANSI Standard C63.4. - GR-63-CORE & MIL-STD-910G - RoHS Compliant EUROPE 230V, 230/400V Units (Single and Three Phase) - IEC 60950-1:2005 (2 nd Edition); Am1:2009 + Am2:2013: Information Technology Equipment - 2014/35/EU Low-Voltage Directive (LVD) - European Directive 2011/65/EU on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS2) - SR332i04GR-63-CORE & MIL-STD-910G - RoHS 2 and WEEE Compliant JAPAN - PSE AUSTRALIA and NEW ZEALAND - RCM 1.3 DESCRIPTION The Geist Upgradeable (GU) line of PDUs provides the flexibility to deliver basic, integrated power distribution units today with the option of field upgrading the technology as needs evolve. To establish this upgrade path, Geist offers an Interchangeable Monitoring Device (IMD), which is a hot-swappable, intelligence module containing features such as ethernet port(s), USB, LED display, sensor ports, etc. While the main electrical components of the PDU (input cord, chassis, outlets) remain the same, the IMD can be updated to support higher tier product features and functionality. With the IMD, users can upgrade to the latest monitoring and control technology without replacing the PDU. The hot-swappable IMD can be upgraded in a few simple steps without interrupting power to critical equipment. GU2 is the second-generation of the GU product line and includes Switched, Outlet Monitored, and Switched plus Outlet Monitored options. GU2 provides scalable global power distribution by means of compatibility with a variety of North/Central American, European and International input cords,

connectors and outlets. The GU2 PDU delivers flexibility and lower total cost of ownership when compared to a non-upgradeable PDU option. The GU2 Monitored and Switched PDUs offer real-time power monitoring, which includes data logging and management for voltage, real power, apparent power, power factor and kilowatt hours, via secure web (HTTPS), SNMP, JSON API, or Command Line Interface (CLI). The networkconnected PDUs transmit notifications of any breach in user-specified thresholds for power and climate conditions, such as potential overloads, before critical IT mains breakers trip. The Switched GU2 PDU additionally provides the ability to remotely turn on, turn off or reboot power to each outlet. 1.4 PDU COMPONENTS GU2 Rack PDUs are manufactured with high quality components and electronic sub-assemblies and are assembled in an ISO 9001 (2015) certified production facility, making them highly reliable. Geist PDUs receive rigorous environmental and mechanical testing to ensure product longevity. 1.4.1 METAL CHASSIS Geist PDU chassis are manufactured by Geist with locally sourced steel. Complete manufacturing and production of the chassis includes metal punching, bending, press fitting and painting with a scratch resistant powder coat finish. Once the chassis are completed to Geist s specifications, all other components and electrical sub-assemblies are installed within the chassis at the same Geist facility. The GU2 PDU chassis is available in multiple colors, including black, white, yellow, blue, orange, red and green. Other colors may be available upon request. 1.4.2 TECHNOLOGY The GU PDU has three main technology assemblies: 1. Input board The interface assembly that provides connectivity to and transition of the facility input power to the PDUs circuits. The input board also contains input power measurement circuitry and the product factory assembly profile. 2. Interchangeable Monitoring Device (IMD) Is the control module which provides the interface between the user network and PDU functional data and is the main component that makes the GU2 PDU upgradeable. The IMD module is hot swappable; it can be replaced without interrupting the power at the outlet level and provides flexible connectivity to match current customer needs of network and monitoring options. 3. Outlet board(s) These sub-assemblies incorporate outlet level monitoring and control circuitry. Each outboard board supports six outlets and communicates back into to the IMD s host board by way of the Geist Module Communications bus. The outlet boards are designed with programmable time actuated bi-stable magnetic latching relays, which saves energy and reduces operating costs. 1.4.3 COMMUNICATION GU2 PDUs include local and remote connectivity, via network connection or mobile app, and provide data for overall and per outlet power usage; Amps (A), Volts (V), Real power (W), Apparent Power (VA), Power Factor (pf) and energy consumption (kwh). Note: outlet level data is available via the GUI, SNMP, JSON API or external management software. The GU2 rack PDU is IP addressable over a TCP/IP Ethernet network (10/100MB; full duplex) for remote control and monitoring. The network interface supports ARP, IPv4, IPv6, ICMP, ICMPv6, NDP, TCP, UDP, RSTP, STP, DNS, HTTP, HTTPS (TLSv1.2), SMTP, SMTPS, DHCP, SNMP (v1/v2c/v3), LDAP, NTP, SSH and Syslog protocols. GU2 supports a fault-tolerant daisy chain of up to 40 devices using the Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP). Geist Rev 02/2018 2

GU2 PDUs provide billing grade power data (A, V, VA, W, kw, pf) for Phases and/or Outlets with +/- 1% accuracy, as well as +/- 2% accuracy per breaker current (A) accuracy. The GU2 offers support for TLSv1.2 for secure access to GUI and to multi-level local user accounts (read only, control, admin), along with directory-based authentication systems such as LDAP. 1.4.4 RECEPTACLES/OUTLETS The GU2 PDU uses Geist patented U-Lock locking IEC receptacles that are color coded for easy identification of circuits/phases and to assist with phase load balancing. Locking receptacles are compatible with standard cord sets, no vendor specific or special cords are required. Receptacle ratings: NEMA 5-20R Type U-Lock Locking IEC-60320 C13 U-Lock Locking IEC-60320 C19 125VAC, 20A Ratings 250VAC, 10A (UL & CSA 15A, 250VAC) 250VAC, 16A (UL & CSA 20A, 250VAC) 1.4.5 INTERNAL WIRING The GU2 outlets are wired based on customer needs and independently configured based on input phase number and type. Outlets can be phase interweaved and selectively wired as L-L or L-N. Phase interweaving simplifies rack level phase balancing by sequentially alternating input power phases between outlets. The GU product family is wired for upgradability, with each generation of Geist GU PDU offering a higher level of upgradeability. GU First generation PDUs (GU) can be upgraded from Basic to Metered to Monitored. For example, Basic PDUs have no local or remote communication, but with an IMD replacement, they can be upgraded to a local Metered PDU or a local and remote unit-level Monitored PDU. GU2 Second generation PDUs (GU2) also are built and configured with an upgradeable option via firmware update. For example, Switched PDUs can be upgraded, via a simple firmware download process, to also include outlet level monitoring. GU2 PDUs configured with active outlet relays can remotely control distribution of AC power (On/Off/Reboot) to individual outlets. Outlet switching is user controlled via web GUI, SNMP, JSON API or external management software. LED status indicators, located adjacent to each outlet, provide visual power status indication for each outlet. Green = Outlet power On Red = Outlet power Off Amber = Error Condition Off = No power to PDU outlet circuit Outlet switching is achieved using bi-stable magnetic latching relays, which reduce overall power consumption as the relay coils are not energized unless being switched on/off. GU2 PDUs include support for user configurable per outlet power-on sequencing. In the event of a power failure, the PDU can be user configured to return all relays to the open position, no power to outlets. When power is restored, PDU outlet power-on sequencing reduces the potential of breakers or fuses from opening due to high in-rush currents. Geist Rev 02/2018 3

1.5 SAFETY AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE GU2 PDUs are tested in accordance with the harmonized EN/UL/CSA 60950-1 safety standards and marked UL or CE compliant as appropriate. They are evaluated for safe operation under normal and fault conditions to verify that faulty product, incorrect use or exposure to disruptive environmental influences do not result in unexpected hazardous conditions. Where applicable, compliance to declared regional or national differences are also evaluated.
