Installing the Windows Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver This ReadMe file contains the instructions for installing the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver on Windows systems. The Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver allows you to send PostScript or PCL language jobs to the printer and enable printer specific features. This allows you to print from standard desktop applications such as word processors, presentation graphics, and image manipulation software. The Custom PostScript Printer Driver can be installed on the following operating systems: Windows NT 4.0 Windows 2000 Windows XP The Custom PCL Printer Driver can be installed on the following operating systems: Windows 2000 Windows XP The following installation procedures assume you have a zip program installed on your system. Before proceeding, verify with your Windows administrator that you have the appropriate privileges to install the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver. If you have any old versions of Printer Driver installed on your system, delete the old version before installing the new version. For more information, see Removing the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver at the end of this document. To install the Custom PostScript Printer Driver on Windows NT 4.0: 1. Close all open applications. 2. Do one of the following: If you are using the Printer Drivers, PPD Files, and Print File Downloader Software CD to install the Custom PostScript Printer Driver, open the ReadMe.html file and follow the instructions. If you are not using the CD, download and save the.zip file to a folder on your Hard Drive. 3. Navigate to the folder into which you saved the.zip file. 4. Double-click the PSDW32_<brand>_xxxx.zip file. A window appears and displays the contents of the.zip file. 5. Extract the files to a folder on your Hard Drive. 6. Close the zip program. 7. Navigate to the folder into which you extracted the files. 8. Double-click Setup.exe. The Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard window appears. 9. Click Next. The License Agreement window appears. 10. After reading the license agreement, click Yes to accept the license agreement. The Choose Destination Location window appears. NOTE: Click Browse to change the destination folder, if necessary.

11. Click Next. A window appears and displays a list of languages. 12. Select the language that you want to install. 13. Click Next. The Ready to Install the Program window appears. 14. Click Install. After the files are installed, the InstallShield Wizard Complete window appears. 15. Click Finish. 16. Select Start > Settings > Printers. The Printers window appears. 17. Double-click Add Printer. The Add Printer Wizard window appears. 18. Select My Computer. 19. Click Next. 20. Do one of the following: Select the Port to use. Click Add Port. From the Available Printer Ports list of the Printer Ports window, select LPR Port and click New Port. From the Add LPR Compatible Printer window, in the Name or address of server providing lpd, type the IP address of the printer. In the Name of printer or print queue on that server field, type default. Click OK. From the Printer Ports window, click Close. 21. Click Next. 22. Click Have Disk. The Install From Disk window appears. 23. Click Browse. The Locate File error window appears. 24. Click Cancel. The Locate File window appears. 25. Navigate to and select the.inf file for the Custom PostScript Printer Driver. 26. Click Open. The Install From Disk window returns. 27. Click OK. The Add Printer Wizard window returns. 28. Click Next. NOTE: If the Add Printer Wizard window updates and specifies that the Printer Driver already exists, select Replace existing driver and click Next. 29. In the Printer name field, modify the name of the Printer Driver, if necessary.

30. Do one of the following: If you want the Custom PostScript Printer Driver to be the default printer, select Yes. If you do not want the Custom PostScript Printer Driver to be the default printer, select No. 31. Click Next. 32. Select Not shared. 33. Click Next. 34. Do one of the following: If you want to print a test page, select Yes. If you do not want to print a test page, select No. 35. Click Finish. The Custom PostScript Printer Driver is ready to be used. To install the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver on Windows 2000: 1. Close all open applications. 2. Do one of the following: If you are using the Printer Drivers, PPD Files, and Print File Downloader Software CD to install the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver, open the ReadMe.html file and follow the instructions. If you are not using the CD, download and save the.zip file to a folder on your Hard Drive. 3. Navigate to the folder into which you saved the.zip file. 4. Double-click the PSDW32_<brand>_xxxx.zip or PCLW32_<brand>_xxxx.zip file. A window appears and displays the contents of the.zip file. 5. Extract the files to a folder on your Hard Drive. 6. Close the zip program. 7. Navigate to the folder into which you extracted the files. 8. Double-click Setup.exe. The Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard window appears. 9. Click Next. The License Agreement window appears. 10. After reading the license agreement, click Yes to accept the license agreement. The Choose Destination Location window appears. NOTE: Click Browse to change the destination folder, if necessary. 11. Click Next. A window appears and displays a list of languages. 12. Select the language that you want to install. 13. Click Next. 14. Click Install. After the files are installed, the InstallShield Wizard Complete window appears. 15. Click Finish. 16. Select Start > Settings > Printers > Add Printer. The Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard window appears. 17. Click Next. The Local or Network Printer window appears. 18. Select Local printer. 19. Deselect Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer. 20. Click Next. The Select the Printer Port window appears. 21. Do one of the following: From the Use the following port drop-down menu, select the Port to use and click Next. Select Create a new port, from the Type drop-down menu, select Standard TCP/IP Port, and click Next. From the Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard window, click Next. From the Add Port window, in the Printer Name or IP Address field, type the IP address for the printer and click Next. From the Additional Port Information Required window, select Custom and click Settings. From Protocol area of the Configure Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor window, select LPR. In the Queue Name field, type default. Select LPR Byte Counting Enabled and click OK. From the Additional Port Information Required window, click Next. From the Completing the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard window, click Finish. The Add Printer Wizard window appears. 22. Click Have Disk. The Install From Disk window appears. 23. Click Browse. The Locate File window appears. 24. Navigate to and select the.inf file for the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver. 25. Click Open. The Install From Disk window returns. 26. Click OK. The Add Printer Wizard window returns. 27. Click Next. NOTE: If the Use Existing Driver window appears, select Replace existing driver and click Next. The Name Your Printer window appears. 28. In the Printer name field, modify the name of the Printer Driver, if necessary. 29. Do one of the following: If you want the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver to be the default printer, select Yes. If you do not want the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver to be the default printer, select No. 30. Click Next. The Printer Sharing window appears.

31. Select Do not share this printer. 32. Click Next. The Print Test Page window appears. 33. Do one of the following: If you want to print a test page, select Yes. If you do not want to print a test page, select No. 34. Click Next. The Completing the Add Printer Wizard window appears. 35. Click Finish. The Digital Signature Not Found window appears. 36. Click Yes. The Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver is ready to be used. To install the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver on Windows XP: 1. Close all open applications. 2. Do one of the following: If you are using the Printer Drivers, PPD Files, and Print File Downloader Software CD to install the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver, open the ReadMe.html file and follow the instructions. If you are not using the CD, download and save the.zip file to a folder on your Hard Drive. 3. Navigate to the folder into which you saved the.zip file. 4. 15. Click Next. The Local or Network Printer window appears. 16. Select Local printer attached to this computer. 17. Deselect Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer. 18. Click Next. The Select a Printer Port window appears. 19. Do one of the following: From the Use the following port drop-down menu, select the Port to use and click Next. Select Create a new port, from the Type of port drop-down menu, select Standard TCP/IP Port, and click Next. From the Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard window, click Next. From the Add Port window, in the Printer Name or IP Address field, type the IP address for the printer and click Next. Do one of the following: If you want the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver to be the default printer, select Yes. If you do not want the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver to be the default printer, select No. 28. Click Next. The Print Test Page window appears. 29. Do one of the following: If you want to print a test page, select Yes. If you do not want to print a test page, select No. 30. Click Next. The Completing the Add Printer Wizard window appears.

31. Click Finish. The Hardware Installation window appears. 32. Click Continue Anyway. The Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver is ready to be used. Removing the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver To effectively remove the Printer Driver, you must remove all printers that use the driver and then remove the driver itself. To remove the Custom PostScript Printer Driver from Windows NT 4.0: Go to www.support.microsoft.com and search for knowledge base article ID 135406. This article provides steps for removing Printer Drivers from Windows NT 4.0 systems. To remove the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver from Windows 2000: 1. Select Start > Settings > Printers. The Printers window appears. 2. Right-click the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver that you want to remove and select Delete. A window appears and confirms that you want to remove the printer. 3. Click Yes. 4. From the Printers window, select File > Server Properties. The Print Server Properties window appears. 5. Select the Drivers tab. 6. Select the Printer Driver to remove. 7. Click Remove. The Print Server Properties message appears and confirms that you really want to remove the Printer Driver. 8. Click Yes. NOTE: If the Printer Server Properties message appears and states that the Printer Driver is in use, click OK, restart the computer, and repeat this procedure from step 4. 9. Click Close to close the Printer Server Properties window. 10. Close the Printers window. To remove the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver from Windows XP: 1. Select Start > Printers and Faxes. The Printers and Faxes window appears. 2. Do one of the following: Right-click the Custom PostScript or PCL Driver that you want to remove and select Delete. Select the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver that you want to remove and press [DELETE]. A window appears and confirms that you want to remove the printer. 3. Click Yes.

4. From the Printers and Faxes window, select File > Server Properties. The Print Server Properties window appears. 5. Select the Drivers tab. 6. Select the Printer Driver to remove. 7. Click Remove. The Print Server Properties message appears and confirms that you really want to remove the Printer Driver. 8. Click Yes. NOTE: If the Printer Server Properties message appears and states that the Printer Driver is in use, click OK, restart the computer, and repeat this procedure from step 5. 9. Click Close to close the Printer Server Properties window. 10. Close the Printers and Faxes window.
