1 Getting started 1.1 Features The Wi-Fi Setup Assistant is a GUI based windows utility that: o o o Has different operating modes, enabling faster configuration or greater control over the configuration options. Suggests the optimum configuration for an un-configured printer. Provides on-screen tips for individual steps of a configuration procedure. 1.2 System Requirements Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Microsoft Windows 8/8.1 Microsoft Windows 8/8.1 Pro Microsoft Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise Display Resolution 1024 x 768 (1600 x 1200 or higher recommended) with True Color Hard Disk 500 MB for installation Pointing Device MS-Mouse compliant device.net Framework Microsoft.NET Framework Version 4.0 The minimum display settings for optimum performance are 1024 x 768 pixels resolution and 256 colors.
1.3 Installing Wi-Fi Setup Assistant Download Wi-Fi Setup Assistant from the website or from the CD that is supplied with the Printer, and then install it onto the PC. 1. Unpack the zip file. You can see the package contents as follows:- 2. Click Setup.exe to install the Wi-Fi Setup Assistant The setup will install the following software packages if it is not installed before. o Microsoft.NET Framework 4.
The setup will install Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0.
2 Configuring a Wi-Fi Printer 2.1 Setup a New Printer This mode allows you to setup the new printer (out of box condition). If the printer is not in the out of box condition and you do not know its configuration, perform Reset Factory Settings first and follow this procedure to setup the printer newly. 1. Select Setup a new Printer and click Next. The new printer will be in Access Point Mode with the following details:- Access Point SSID WF+Serial Number of the Printer Security Open ( No Security) IP Address 192.168.2.1 Printer Webpage Login Credentials User Name : admin Password : admin DHCP Server Enabled 2. Select the Interface connected to the printer and click Next. o Select Wireless, if the printer connected to PC / Laptop via Wi-Fi. Please ensure the Wi-Fi connection between the PC / Laptop to the printer based on the above details in default Access Point Mode. o Select Universal Serial Bus (USB), if the printer connected to PC / Laptop via USB. Please ensure the Edgeport driver installed in the PC / Laptop.
3. Select the mode of the printer to be configured and click Next. o Select Access Point (AP Mode), if the printer need to be configured as access point. o Select Infra-structure (Client), if the printer needs to be configured to join in the existing network. If the mode is selected as Access Point ( AP Mode ), you can see the following screen.
2.1.1 Access Point Mode In this mode, Access Point is not required. The Computer will be considered as clients and the printer will be acting as Access Point. So the PC / Laptop can directly communicate with the printer. Wi-Fi Printer in Access Point Mode Computer with a wireless interface Access Point Mode has the following features. Parameters Value Remarks Channel 1 to 11 The channel on which the A.P is running. Please check with Network Administrator for the Network Traffic with Wi-Fi devices. SSID Please refer SSID Rules Table below The SSID of the node operating as a Limited AP. Security DNS Server Domain Name The WiFi security mode of the User A.P. Enable Enables DNS Server Disable Disable DNS Server Valid domain name Please refer Security Settings in Access Point Mode Specifies the DNS Server in AP. If DNS Server is enabled, this specifies the DNS domain Network IP Address Valid IP Address IP address of the Printer Subnet mask Valid Subnet Mask Subnet Mask of the Printer Gateway Valid Gateway The gateway address for the Limited AP DHCP Server Enable Enables DHCP Server Disable Disables DHCP Server Specifies the DHCP Server in AP. Start Address Valid IP Address If DHCP Server is enabled, this specifies the start address for the DHCP server. This Address should not be same as IP Address. 2.1.1.1 Security Settings in Access Point Mode The Security settings available in AP Mode are as follows:- Security Type Value Remarks Open Security --- No Security WEP-40 (Open) WEP Key Index and the Key Key Index 1 4 Key 10 or 26 Hexadecimal Digits WPA2 Personal Passphrase String between 8 and 64 WEP has to be configured in host Passphrase used as a seed to create the WPA pre-shared key (PSK).
If the mode is selected as Infra-structure (Client), you can see the following screen. 2.1.2 Infrastructure Mode In this mode, Access Point is required. The printer has to be configured according to the network which it joins to. Therefore, you have to obtain the necessary information of your network from a network administrator before setup. The Subnet mask to be used in case of static IP configuration. The gateway address to be used in case of static IP configuration. The DNS server address to be used in case of static IP configuration.
2.1.2.1 Selecting SSID in Infrastructure Mode If the application opened in Create / Edit Wifi Settings File mode, the following dialog will be shown. 1. If Wireless interface selected, enter the target printer s ip address and login credentials. 2. If USB interface selected, select the COM Port. 3. Click Scan to scan the available AP around the printer. 4. Select the access point in the list and click Select. 5. Click Close to close the dialog. 2.1.2.2 Security Settings in Infrastructure Mode The Security settings available in Infrastructure Mode are as follows:- Security Type Value Remarks No Security --- No Security WEP WEP Key Index and the Key Authentication Key Index 1 4 Key Open Or Shared 10 or 26 Hexadecimal Digits WPA / WPA2 Personal Passphrase String between 8 and 64 WPA / WPA2 Enterprise Please refer EAP Types and Certificate WEP has to be configured in host Passphrase used as a seed to create the WPA pre-shared key (PSK).
2.1.2.3 EAP Types and Certificate The following EAP Types are supported. o o o o o o EAP-FAST-GTC EAP-FAST-MSCHAP EAP-TTLS EAP-PEAP0 EAP-PEAP1 EAP-TLS EAP User Name EAP Password The user name is an ASCII string with a maximum length of 32 ASCII characters The password is an ASCII string with a maximum length of 32 ASCII characters. The certificates need for EAP-TLS type is as follows:- o CA Root Certificate o Client Certificate o Client Key To upload the certificate, Select all the certificates by clicking the Browse button and fill all the three certificates. The certificate file extension is.der. 2.1.3 SSID and Passphrase Rules 1. The tool accepts the following ASCII characters for SSID and passphrase. Category Accepted Characters Numerical 0-9 Alphabets a-z and A-Z Special characters SP! # $ % & ' ( ) * +, -. / : ; < = >? @ [ \ ] ^ _ ` { } ~ Note: SP = space 2. The SSID or Passphrase parameter may be captured within or without double quotation marks ( SSID ). 3. The quotation mark ( ) may not be used as the first character of the SSID or passphrase. 4. If comma (,) is a part of the SSID, then SSID parameter needs to be framed with double quotation marks ( SS,ID ). 2.2 Create / Edit Wi-Fi Settings File This mode allows you to Create / Edit Wifi Settings file and flash to printer using USB or Wi-Fi interface. 1. Select Create / Edit WiFi Settings File and click Next. It will show you the main dialog. Toolbar Buttons Operating Mode Selection
2.2.1 Toolbar Buttons New The New button creates a new file for Access Point / Infrastructure Mode with default settings. Open The Open button opens an existing Wi-Fi settings file. Save The Save button saves the Wi-Fi setting into a file with extension (.wcf). Save As The Save-As button saves the copy of Wi-Fi setting into a file into a new file.. Generate XML The Generate XML button shows only if Wi-Fi Interface selected, it shows the XML data of the Wi-Fi Settings. Show Log The Show Log button shows the log. Read Settings The Read Settings button retrieves the settings from the printer. 2.2.2 Operating Mode Selection This selection is to select the operation mode (AP Mode / Infrastructure Mode) to be configured. For the AP Mode individual settings, please refer Access Point Mode For the Infrastructure mode individual settings, please refer Infrastructure Mode
2.3 Export Saved Wi-Fi Settings from file to printer This mode allows you to flash the settings file to the printer using USB or Wi-Fi interface. 1. Select Export saved WiFi settings from file to Printer and click Next. It will show the dialog to choose the WiFi Settings File (.wcf). 2. Select the WiFi Settings File (.wcf) and click Open.
3. The Wifi settings file will be loaded in the application. 4. Click Next to select the Target printer to flash, and provide the Wireless / USB Information to flash to the printer.
2.3.1 Reading Settings from Printer 1. Click Read Settings button in the toolbar, it will prompt you the dialog for Interface. 2. If Wireless interface, then provide the IP address and login credentials. 3. If USB interface, then select the COM Port. 4. Click OK to read the settings from the printer. If the printer has not connected to any Wi-Fi network and read the printer s settings through USB, some of the parameters cannot read from the printer which configured. The parameters will be highlighted in the GUI as follows:-
2.4 Reset Factory Settings Resetting the printer to its factory default settings is available only by USB. 1. Select the Reset Factory Settings (Only USB) option in the main screen and click Next. After Reset, the printer will be in Access Point (AP) Mode by default. The Access Point s SSID will be the WF<SerialNumber>. 2. Select the Port and click Apply. 3. The following Message box will be shown.
3 Log The following log window shows the error or issue which found in Network or in the USB communication. You can save the log file using the Save option in the toolbar. 4 Host Configuration 1.
