Preface This guide describes how to set up and operate the Segway InfoKey Programming Tool. Conventions The following conventions are used throughout this guide. Standards Safety messages for this guide and product safety signs and labels are based on standards set forth by the American National Standards Institute for Product Safety Information in Product Manuals, Instructions, and Other Collateral Materials (ANSI). To assist in the communication of safety information across language barriers, some safety graphics are based on standards set forth by the International Standards Organization (ISO). Safety Alert Symbol This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert you to potential personal injury hazards. Obey all safety messages that follow this symbol to avoid possible injury or death. Signal Words WARNING indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury. CAUTION, used with the safety alert symbol, indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury. Before You Begin The computer used to run the InfoKey Programming Tool software must have a high-speed Internet connection. You must register your InfoKey Programming Tool with Segway before use. Complete the following steps to register: 1 2 3 Log Locate the 12-digit serial number printed on the outside of the box and on the bottom of the programming fixture. Call Segway Technical Support at (603) 222-6150. Provide the serial number to register your warranty and receive a user name. in to http://service.segway.com/registration, select InfoKey Programming Tool and click Register. Enter the user name assigned in Step 2 to receive an email containing your password. Introduction The Segway InfoKey Programming Tool gives you the ability to create, duplicate, and adjust settings for InfoKey Controllers (InfoKeys). The InfoKey Programming Tool includes the software application and the programming fixture. This guide describes the following procedures: Working with InfoKeys Installing and Uninstalling the InfoKey Programming Tool Setting Up the Programming Fixture Programming an InfoKey Introduction 1

Working with InfoKeys An InfoKey allows a rider to control and monitor Segway PT operation. InfoKeys should be handled with care, and require the procedures described in this chapter before and after programming. Preparing an InfoKey for Programming To prepare an InfoKey for programming, you must remove the backplate and battery. Complete the following steps before programming or creating an InfoKey. 1 2 Remove 3 NOTE: Remove the InfoKey from any packaging. If the InfoKey is powered on, press and hold the power/standby button for two seconds to power off the InfoKey. the InfoKey backplate by twisting it counter-clockwise. Remove the battery to expose the programming connections. Returning an InfoKey to Service Complete the following steps to return an InfoKey to service after programming. 1 2 Replace 3 Replace the battery, with the positive (plus sign) facing out. the backplate by pressing and turning clockwise. To test the InfoKey, stand no more than 15 ft. (5 m) from your Segway PT and press the power/standby button. NOTE: Refer to the InfoKey Controller section in the Segway Personal Transporter (PT) i2, x2 Reference Manual for more information about InfoKey operation. 2 Working with InfoKeys

Installing and Uninstalling the InfoKey Programming Tool Software Installing Complete the following steps to install the InfoKey Programming Tool software. 1 Insert the installation CD. If the installation screen does not appear, navigate to the CD drive and double-click the InfoKey-Setup.exe icon. If you do not have Microsoft.NET Runtime Environment 3.5 or later, the following error message appears. 2 Click Next to continue. The Please Disconnect window appears. If you have previously connected the programming fixture, disconnect it before continuing. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/ and follow the prompts to download and install the.net Runtime Environment, version 3.5 or later. The Segway InfoKey Tool Setup splash screen appears, followed by the Welcome to the InfoKey Programming Tool Setup Wizard window. Installing and Uninstalling the InfoKey Programming Tool 3

Installing (Continued) 3 Click Next to continue. The License Agreement window appears. Read the Segway Service Software Terms and Conditions. 5 Click I Agree to accept the Nlog terms and continue. The Choose Install Location window appears. From this window you can view and accept the default location, or change the installation directory. 4 Click I Agree to accept the Segway terms and conditions and continue. The second License Agreement window appears. Read the terms for Nlog. 6 Click Next to continue. The Choose Start Menu Folder window appears. From this window you can view and accept the default start menu folder, or change the location for the InfoKey Programming Tool shortcut. 4 Installing and Uninstalling the InfoKey Programming Tool

Installing (Continued) 7 Click Install to continue. The window status changes to Installing, then to Installation Complete. Note: Select a USB port on the computer that you can dedicate to the InfoKey programming fixture. Once the software is installed, if you connect the programmer to a different USB port it may not be recognized. 9 Connect the programming fixture as described in the Connecting the Programming Fixture procedure (p. 7). When the programming fixture is connected, click Next to continue. The Completing the InfoKey Programming Tool Setup Wizard window appears. 8 Click Next to continue. The Please Connect window appears. 10 Click Finish to complete the InfoKey Programming Tool software installation. Installing and Uninstalling the InfoKey Programming Tool 5

Uninstalling Complete the following steps to uninstall the InfoKey Programming Tool software. 1 From the Add or Remove Programs program or the InfoKey Programming Tool directory, run Uninstall InfoKey Programming Tool. The Uninstall InfoKey Programming Tool Setup window appears. 2 3 Click Uninstall to remove the InfoKey Programming Tool from your computer. The window status changes to Uninstalling, then to Uninstallation Complete. Click Close to complete the uninstall procedure. 6 Installing and Uninstalling the InfoKey Programming Tool

Setting Up the Programming Fixture The Segway InfoKey Programming Fixture provides the hardware connection required to create and change InfoKey configurations. The programming fixture connects to your computer through a standard USB cable (provided) and does not require any other power source. Connecting the Programming Fixture Complete the following steps to connect the programming fixture to your computer. 1 Connect the USB cable type B connector (square) to the programming fixture. 2 Connect the USB cable type A connector (rectangular) to your computer. If your computer does not automatically recognize new hardware, use the Add Hardware program in your Windows Control Panel to add the programming fixture. NOTE: Your PC s USB port may not be capable of supplying enough power to the InfoKey programmer. In this event, you can purchase a powered USB adapter, or try switching the programmer to another USB port. If you switch to another USB port, you may be prompted to search for drivers for the InfoKey programmer hardware. Follow the on-screen prompts and allow Windows to search the PC for the appropriate drivers. TO PROGRAMMING FIXTURE TO COMPUTER Setting Up the Programming Fixture 7

Connecting an InfoKey to the Programming Fixture Complete the following steps to connect an InfoKey to the programming fixture. 1 Place the InfoKey, screen side up, over the center of the programming fixture. Align the flyguy logo on the InfoKey with the white dot on the programming fixture. 3 Placing your fingers on the InfoKey s outer plastic housing, press straight down until it locks into place. The white ring around the top of the programming fixture will light when the InfoKey is properly connected. 2 Rotate the InfoKey clockwise until the two flyguy logos align. You should feel a click as the InfoKey locks into place. Note: To avoid damaging the InfoKey, do not press down on the screen when installing it into the programming fixture. You are now ready to use the InfoKey Programming Tool to create, duplicate, or change the InfoKey configuration. See the Programming an InfoKey procedure (p. 10) for more information. 8 Setting Up the Programming Fixture

Removing an InfoKey from the Programming Fixture Complete the following steps to remove an InfoKey from the programming fixture. 1 Position your fingers on the sides of the InfoKey as shown. Gently press the InfoKey straight down and release. The InfoKey should pop up slightly and the white light ring will turn off when the InfoKey is properly released. 3 Lift the InfoKey straight up and away from the programming fixture. Complete the Returning an InfoKey to Service procedure (p. 2) before using the InfoKey. 2 Rotate the InfoKey counter-clockwise until the flyguy logo aligns with the white dot on the programming fixture. Programming an InfoKey This section describes how to log in, create a new InfoKey, duplicate an existing InfoKey, change the configuration of an existing InfoKey, and find more information. Note: Before continuing, make sure you have a valid user name and password. For more information see the Before You Begin section (p. ii) or contact Segway Technical Support at 603-222-6150. Logging In Complete the following steps to log in to the InfoKey Programming Tool. 1 Double-click the InfoKey Programming Tool icon. The system displays the Login window. 3 4 Enter your password. Click Log In. If you do not enter the correct user name, an error message appears. Click Continue to return to the Login window. 2 Enter your user name. Press Tab or click in the password field. The cursor appears in the password field. If you do not enter the correct password, a diffferent error message appears. Click Continue to return to the Login window. 10 Programming an InfoKey

Logging In (Continued) 4 (continued) Upon entering the correct user name and password, the system displays the Main Menu. Note: Hover the mouse pointer over any button to view the tool tip. From the Main Menu you can choose to create a new InfoKey (create), change the configuration of an existing InfoKey (change), or find more information (info). Programming an InfoKey 11

Duplicating an InfoKey Use the Create function and complete the following steps to program a new InfoKey by duplicating an existing InfoKey. 1 Start 2 BEFORE YOU BEGIN make sure you have the following items: The InfoKey to be duplicated. An InfoKey ready to receive the duplicate configuration. the InfoKey Programming Tool and log in. From the Main Menu click Create. The system displays the Create window. 3 (continued) Connect the programming fixture as described in the Connecting the Programming Fixture section (p. 7) and click Continue. 4 The system prompts you to insert the InfoKey to be copied. Insert the InfoKey to be copied into the programming fixture and click Continue. The system displays the Reading InfoKey Configuration window. 3 Click Duplicate to copy an InfoKey. You can click Go Back at any time to return to the Create window. If the programming fixture is not connected, the system displays the following error message. When the configuration is saved, the system prompts you to insert the InfoKey to be configured. 12 Programming an InfoKey

Duplicating an InfoKey (Continued) 5 Insert the InfoKey to be configured into the programming fixture and click Continue. The system displays the Writing InfoKey Configuration window. 6 Click Continue to complete the process. The system displays the Create window. From this window you can continue configuring InfoKeys or click Go Back to return to the Main Menu. 7 8 Remove the InfoKey from the programming fixture. Complete the Returning an InfoKey to Service procedure (p. 2) before using the InfoKey. The default view appears on the InfoKey screen. NOTE: Set the InfoKey s time as described in the Segway Personal Transporter (PT) i2, x2 Reference Manual. When the duplicate InfoKey is ready, the system displays the InfoKey has been successfully duplicated window. Programming an InfoKey 13

Creating a New InfoKey from an ID Card Use the Create function and complete the following steps to program a new InfoKey by scanning the InfoKey Controller Identification card shipped with every PT. 1 Start 2 3 BEFORE YOU BEGIN make sure you have the following items: The new InfoKey correctly inserted into the programming fixture. A barcode scanner connected to your computer. The required InfoKey Controller Identification Codes (ID card). the InfoKey Programming Tool and log in. From the Main Menu click Create. The system displays the Create window. Click ID Card to create an InfoKey from an ID card. NOTE: Replacement InfoKey Controller Identification cards can be purchased from Segway by contacting Technical Support at (603) 222-6056. 4 Scan 5 6 the barcode or type the contents of line 1, Serial Number, from the ID card. The serial number appears in the barcode line 1 (Serial Number) field. Scan the barcode or type the contents of line 2 from the ID card. The code for line 2 appears in the barcode line 2 field. Scan the barcode or type the contents of line 3 from the ID card. The code for line 3 appears in the barcode line 3 field. 14 Programming an InfoKey

Creating a New InfoKey from an ID Card (continued) 7 Click Apply to create the new InfoKey. The system displays the Place the New InfoKey in the fixture window. When the new InfoKey is ready, the system displays the InfoKey has been successfully configured window. 8 Insert the InfoKey to be configured into the programming fixture and click Continue. The system displays the Writing InfoKey Configuration window. 9 10 11 Click Continue to complete the process. The system displays the Create window. From this window you can continue configuring InfoKeys or click Go Back to return to the Main Menu. Remove the InfoKey from the programming fixture. Complete the Returning an InfoKey to Service procedure (p. 2) before using the InfoKey. The default view appears on the InfoKey screen. Changing an InfoKey Use the CHANGE function and complete the following steps to change the configuration of an InfoKey. 1 Start the InfoKey Programming Tool and log in. The system displays the Take the InfoKey to be modified and place it in the fixture window. 3 (continued) When the reading is complete, the system displays the current InfoKey configuration. 2 Insert the InfoKey to be modified into the programming fixture and click Continue. 3 From the Main Menu click Change. The system displays the Reading InfoKey Configuration window. Note: The units of measure display (MPH or KM/H) on the Change screen is determined by the regional settings on your PC. Refer to the FAQ section for more information. 4 Change the InfoKey configuration settings as follows: Top Speed (MPH): Click in this field and enter a top speed for Standard Setting speed limit. If the value is outside the available range, the system displays a message with the range of possible values (4.0 to 12.5 MPH). 16 Programming an InfoKey

Changing an InfoKey (Continued) 4 (cont d.) Top Speed Turtle (MPH): Click in this field and enter the top speed for Beginner Setting speed limit. If the value is outside the available range, the system displays a message with the range of possible values (4.0 to 12.5 MPH). 5 Click Apply to save the configuration changes. The system displays the Writing InfoKey Configuration window. Note: InfoKey speed settings are programmed in increments of 0.5 MPH. Users who have their regional PC settings adjusted to display KM/H will notice the values they enter rounded to the nearest MPH equivalent. Refer to the InfoKey Speed Settings Conversion Table (p. 21) for more information. Shutdown/Timeout (seconds): Shutdown/Timeout is the period of time the Segway PT will remain powered on in standby mode. Click in this field and enter the desired Shutdown/Timeout period in number of seconds. If the value is outside the available range, the system displays a message with the range of possible values (4 to 900 seconds). Disable Mode Change: If this option is checked, the InfoKey will be locked in Beginner mode. The rider will not be able to change between Beginner and Standard modes using the InfoKey. If this option is not checked, the rider will be able to change between Beginner and Standard modes using the InfoKey. Speed Setting Lock: If this option is checked, the rider will not be able to change the PT s speed settings using the InfoKey. If this option is not checked, the rider will be able to change the PT s speed settings using the InfoKey. 6 When the changes to InfoKey configuration are complete, the system displays the InfoKey has been successfully configured window. Click Continue to complete the process. The system displays the Create window. From this window you can continue configuring InfoKeys or click Go Back to return to the Main Menu. The default view appears on the InfoKey screen. NOTE: Set the time as described in the Segway Personal Transporter (PT) i2, x2 Reference Manual. Finding More Information From the Main Menu, you can click Info to view help, information about the system, and support. Help The Help button will re-direct you to the Segway Extranet where you can find copies of the InfoKey Programmer user materials, software license agreement, and warranty information. If you do not have a logon and password to the Segway Extranet, contact Segway Technical Support at (603) 222-6150 to request one. About The About button displays technical information about the InfoKey Programming Tool, including the version number. Support The Support button will re-direct you to the Segway Technical Support web site. Closing the Programming Tool Click the Exit Button from any window to close the Programming Tool. 18 Programming an InfoKey

FAQ Why can t my InfoKey be read, programmed, or changed? Try a different InfoKey to make sure there is no problem with the key itself. Make sure the programming fixture is connected to the USB port on the PC that you installed it on and recognized by the Programming Tool software. Is the light ring around the top of the programming fixture coming on when the InfoKey is pressed into place? If not, the programming fixture may not be getting power. Try a different USB port. Note: If you switch to another USB port, you may be prompted to search for drivers for the InfoKey programmer hardware. Follow the on-screen prompts and allow Windows to search the PC for the appropriate drivers. If you are getting an error message on the screen, follow the instructions given to correct the issue. Why can t I log into the InfoKey Programming Tool Software? Make sure you have registered the Programming Tool with Segway. Double-check your ID and password. Both are casesensitive and must be entered exactly as shown. Why won t the InfoKey Application install or run? If prompted, make sure you have downloaded and installed the Microsoft.NET 3.5 Runtime Environment from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/. Verify that your PC is running Microsoft Windows XP Professional, with at least Service Pack 2. Microsoft Vista is not supported at this time. Why am I being prompted for updates? The InfoKey Programming Tool software automatically checks for updates from Segway. If you are prompted to install a new version, follow the prompts to install the latest version of the software. How can I request a copy of the InfoKey ID card for a particular serial number? You can request a new or duplicate ID card by contacting Segway Technical Support at (603) 222-6150 and provide your dealer name and InfoKey programmer user name. A card reproduction charge may apply. What if the light ring around the InfoKey programmer s top goes out or gets dim when I press the InfoKey into place for programming? Remove the InfoKey and try re-inserting it into the programming fixture. Make sure the InfoKey and programming fixture are dry and free from dust or other contaminants that can interfere with the connection. Your PC s USB port may not be capable of supplying enough power to the InfoKey programmer. In this event, you can purchase a powered USB adapter, or try switching the programmer to another USB port. Note: If you switch to another USB port, you may be prompted to search for drivers for the InfoKey programmer hardware. Why can t I see the Programming Tool software window I was working in? Press CTRL-TAB to cycle through the application windows you have open. The Programming Tool window may have become hidden behind another application. Why, when I connect new hardware such as the programming fixture or scanner, is it not recognized by my computer? Use the Add Hardware utility to find and add new hardware that is already connected to your computer but is not recognized. How do I adjust the units of measure (MPH or KM/H) on the InfoKey Change Screen? The InfoKey Programmer will automatically detect and display either MPH or KM/H based on the regional settings of your PC. To adjust this setting, navigate to the Regional and Language Settings in your Windows Control Panel and adjust the measurement system to either U.S. or Metric. Glossary Barcode Scanner: An electronic hardware device that reads printed barcodes. To enter indentifying information into the InfoKey Programming Tool from the InfoKey Controller Identification Codes card, you should have a barcode scanner connected to your computer. Create InfoKey: The InfoKey Programming Tool option that you can use to create a new or duplicate InfoKey. Change InfoKey: The InfoKey Programming Tool option that you can use to change the configuration of an InfoKey. Configuration: The term configuration is used to describe the actions of creating a new InfoKey, duplicating an existing InfoKey, or changing settings. Disable Mode Change: The InfoKey Programming Tool option that allows you to determine whether or not the rider can change between Beginner and Standard mode, using the InfoKey. Duplicate InfoKey: The InfoKey Programming Tool option that you can use to copy the configuration of an existing InfoKey to another InfoKey. InfoKey Controller: The InfoKey wirelessly monitors and controls the operation of the PT.
