About this Guide This user guide contains all of the information required to allow you to use the Professional ebook system to manage and activate Title licenses and access; download and install the Professional ebook software; and use the software to view, navigate, and search Professional ebook Titles. The Professional ebook system was created with the intention of allowing content owners to deliver a variety of Titles covering any number of topics. As such, this guide is intended to offer a general overview of the Professional ebook features that will be common to all titles housed within the system. Individual Titles will have implemented specific Professional ebook features such as the list of context fields available for the Quick Search function in a manner best suited to the content type and structure of that particular Title. Look within the Title(s) you have access to for a How To guide that describes these specific features. How does the Professional ebook System work? The Professional ebook system delivers Title content to users through an interaction between two major components a server component which manages the licensing and delivery the Pro ebook Titles; and a 1

software component that is used to login to the server, display the list of Titles available to a user, and to download and view the content of a Title. Often, your first interaction with the Professional ebook Connect system will come as a result of receiving an invitation to access a Title. This invitation will contain a link which can be used to activate a license and associate it with a user account. Following this link leads to the Professional ebook Connect website, where you can connect the Title license to your account simply by logging into the system (if you already have a Connect account) or automatically through the process of creating a new Connect account. For a more detailed walkthrough of the license activation process, see the section on Professional ebook Connect. After you have activated a license and associated it with your account, you are now ready to download the Professional ebook ereader software and view the title to which you now have access. More information on supported platforms and links to download and install the ereader software can be found at www.professionalebook.com. Once you have installed and launched the software, you will be asked to login with your Professional ebook Connect account. An option to save your login information for automatic entry is provided for each of the software platforms. After you login to the system, your library view will load, displaying all of the Titles to which you have active licenses. To view a Title, you must first download it to your device. In this manner, you will have continuous access to the Title, whether or not you currently have access to an internet connection. Once you have downloaded the title, you can launch and view its contents. For more information on the features and functionality of the ereader software, see the appropriate section for your installed version of the Professional ebook ereader. Where can I learn more about using Professional ebook? There are a number of ways to learn more about the Professional ebook App: Use the built-in Orientation Guides when the Professional ebook App is first launched, the Orientation Guides are displayed once for each panel. The Orientation Guides are context-sensitive overlays that describe the position and function of each feature for the currently active panel. Use the Orientation Guides, accessed through the ( ) icon on each panel, to quickly see an overview of the purpose of that panel and the navigation and functionality options available within the current view. Consult the Professional ebook User s Guide each installation of Professional ebook comes with a User s Guide in Professional ebook format that is specific to the device on which the App has been installed. Use the Guide to get more detailed information on the features contained within the Professional ebook system. Like all Professional ebook content, the User s Guide will be updated regularly with information on changes and improvements to the system. The Professional ebook Website s Support Section view detailed guides and videos on the use of the Professional ebook at http://www.professionalebook.com. This website also contains the latest information on newly available Professional ebook titles, tips and tricks, links to FAQs, and the feedback forms. 2

Professional ebook Connect For Titles to be available on The Professional ebook system, two components are required the server based Connect system manages access and delivers the Titles to the ereader software, which is then used to view the content of these Titles. Professional ebook Connect is a web based application that acts as the interface for account management, subscription and license distribution, and device management tools. To access Titles within the Professional ebook system you will first need to create a Professional ebook Account. Users will often first create their Professional ebook Connect account after having received an e-mail containing a link to activate a license to a product. The system is designed to allow you to create this account and activate the license simultaneously. Accessing Professional ebook Connect The Professional ebook ereader software is automatically configured to access the Professional ebook Connect system to allow you to view and download the Titles that are associated with your account and to backup and synchronize your annotations and action history referred to as User Content. The creation and management of your Professional ebook Connect user account is accomplished through the web based Dashboard. You can open the Dashboard by pointing your preferred web browser to http://dashboard.professionalebook.com. Creating a Professional ebook Connect Account Accessing any Professional ebook Titles will require you to create a Professional ebook Account. Often, you will be creating your account as the result of having received an e-mail message containing a link to activate a new license for a Title. In both cases the steps for creating your account are the same the only difference is that at the end of creating your account subsequent to following a license activation link, your account and the license will be automatically connected. 3

Steps for Creating a New Professional ebook Connect Account Step One Access the Site Access the Professional ebook Connect Dashboard at http://dashboard.professionalebook.com. Figure 1 - The Professional ebook Connect Landing Page Step Two Complete the Sign Up Form Under the Section Heading Sign up now!, complete the User Name, Password, and e- mail sections of the form. Your User Name is your unique ID within the system, and can be any alpha-numeric name you choose, but which cannot include spaces. Your Password must be at least 8 characters long, and must contain at least 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter, and 1 digit. When entering your password, you can view the text behind the mask by clicking on the symbol. Your e-mail address is used to send you information related to your account should you forget your password or user name, and to send out occasional, system related e-mail messages. Figure 2 - The Pro ebook Connect sign up form 4

Step Three Complete Your Profile Once you have selected your User Name and password, create your System Profile. Enter your Display Name, which will be shown to other users in place of your User Name. Your Display Name can include spaces. Select the Language from the list of supported languages. This language will be used for system generated communications. Select your employment Industry and enter your Job Title. Click on Continue to move to the next step. Figure 3 - Adding Your Profile Step Four Account Verification Options In certain circumstances, such as when changing a password, it will be important to be able to verify your account. Connect verifies your account by asking you to provide the answers to two questions you select. To set your verification answers for each of the two entries, select a question from each of the drop down menus and then provide and confirm the answers for these questions. Choose questions that are specific and that only you can answer. Do not include your password or the answer as part of the question. Answers are not case sensitive. They must contain at least 2 characters and can contain spaces. Once you have selected the answers to your verification questions, click on Continue to move to the final step. Figure 4 - Adding Your Account Verification Questions 5

Step Five Confirming your Account The final step in creating your account is to confirm the e-mail address you have provided. The Connect system will generate and send you an email from the connect@professionalebook.com e-mail address asking you to confirm your account. Use the link provided in the e-mail to confirm your request for an account and to validate your e-mail address. If you do not receive the confirmation email, check your email provider's spam filter. Figure 5 - The Account Confirmation E-Mail That s it! Your Professional ebook account has now been created. Next Steps Downloading the Software and Accessing Titles Once you have your account in place, you can download, install, and login to a version of the Professional ebook ereader software to view the titles to which you have access. Downloading the Professional ebook ereader Software The Professional ebook ereader software was designed to support multiple platforms. To see the available versions and for download information, go to the www.professionalebook.com website. Where to Find Professional ebook Titles Professional ebook Titles are available directly from the publishing company. CogniLore is working with Publishers, Associations, and content owners and authors to continuously add new titles to the Professional ebook system. As Titles are added to the system, we will continue to update the available list of titles at http://www.professionalebook.com. To find out if one of your favorite reference titles is available in Professional ebook format, please contact the Title publisher. Types of Professional ebook Roles Access to Titles within Professional ebook Connect is managed through the use of Roles. Certain Roles within Connect allow you to extend licenses to other users, whether or not those users currently have an account. An account is required in order to activate those licenses; however, the creation of an account and the activation of a license can take place in a single step. For users of Professional ebook Titles, two roles are most important the Curator role and the User role. The Curator Role The Professional ebook system, unlike other ebook solutions, was designed to provide support to organizations requiring access to multiple copies of a Title. In order to provide this support, the Professional ebook implemented the role of Curator. 6

The Curator role is used manage a subscription to a license set consisting of one or more licenses to a Title. Curators act as license managers, with the ability to send our license activation invitations to users, view the list of users who have been assigned or invited to activate a license, or revoke a license from one user and reassign that license to another. Curators are also able to be Users, and can invite themselves or be invited by another Curator to activate and use a license. For more information on the features and functions of the Curator Role, see the section on Curator Options. The User Role The User Role defines your access to one or more titles within the Professional ebook system. In order to view a Title, you must have an Account with an active License associated with that Title, in which case you become a User of that Title. Single License Roles (Both Curator and User) In many cases, a single individual will purchase access to a single title. Connect has been designed such that when this is true, the Curator subscription activation process will also allow the account to be assigned the License at the same time. Figure 6 - A license activation invitation with both Curator and License acceptance options This saves the step of having to first accept that license, and then to subsequently have to send yourself an invitation to the only license available within the subscription. Note If you accepted a license unintentionally: If you have accepted a single use license as the Curator that was intended for another user, follow the steps under Revoking Licenses in the Curator Options below to free up the license and the assign it to the proper User. Viewing and Managing Your Account Profile You can view and make changes to your account profile at any by access the Edit Profile screen within Connect. You can find link to the Edit Profile screen in the status block in the top left corner of site. Use the Edit Profile screen to modify a number of your Profile Figure 7 - The Edit Profile Link (found in the status block in the top right hand corner) time the hand 7

entries: Change Profile picture - Allows you to associate a profile picture with your account. Change Password Allows you to change the password for your account. Change security questions / answers Use this option to modify the account verification questions and answers you set when creating your account. Display Name Change the value of the identifier for your Display name. E-Mail Update your e-mail address. Industry Update the Industry that you work in. Job Title Modify your Job Title. Figure 8 - The Edit Profile Options Language Modify the language that will be used when system e-mails are sent to your e-mail address. Curator Options The following are the options available to the Curator through the Professional ebook Connect system. Receiving and Activating a Subscription License Set When you purchase access to a professional ebook title, a subscription to that Title is registered in the system and associated with your e-mail address. The system will then generate and send to you an e-mail that contains the details of your subscription, and a link that allows you to activate the subscription s licenses and associate them with your Connect account. If you have not created a Connect account, you can create an account and activate the licenses at the same time. The Curator Invitation e-mail Activating a Subscription License Set When you purchase access to a Professional ebook Title, the system will generate an e-mail and send it to the e-mail address that was provided at the time of purchase. The e-mails that are generated by the system are flexible, and their presentation can be very different from one Title to the next. While each e-mail may contain different instructional text, branding and images, a license agreement, and support information, they will generally contain some common information related to your subscription licenses, including the Title s name, the number of licenses within the set, and the subscription parameters. 8

Figure 9 - A sample Curator License Activation e-mail Despite these potential differences, all Curator License invitations will contain a specially link back to the Connect website. Triggering this link will open the Connect website in your browser and prompt you to login to or create your Connect account. Note If you are not the individual in your organization who is responsible for license management: for example, if you are a procurement office and another individual should be ultimately responsible for assigning licenses to user, you can forward the e-mail to that individual before clicking on the license activation link. They can then use the link to associate the license set with their account. When you click on the activation link, the Professional ebook Connect website will open and offer to connect this license set to your account. 9

Login To Activate this License Set Subscription or Create a New account Figure 10 - Accepting a License Invitation Creating this connection is as simple as logging into your Connect account. If you have not yet created a Connect account, you can sign up using the fields provided and connect the license set to your new account automatically. For more information on singing up for a Connect account, see the section entitled Creating a Professional ebook Connect Account. Note If your subscription consists of a single license, then the system will automatically offer to connect your account to this license as a User as well. See the section on Single License Roles (Both Curator and User). The Title Welcome Confirmation e-mail After you have activated the License Set, the Connect system will generate and send a Welcome e-mail to the address associated with your Connect account as a means of confirming that your account was successfully created. The content and format of a Title Welcome e-mails are populated and formatted by the Publisher of the Title, and can vary from one Title to the next. In most cases, the Welcome e-mail will contain information such as how to assign licenses, where to download software, license agreement details, and where to get support. License Management After you have accepted your license set, you are ready to begin assigning licenses to users. To begin assigning licenses, point your browser to http://dashboard.professionalebook.com, and login to your account. After logging into your account, you will be presented with the Professional ebook Connect Dashboard, which contains information and news related to the system. At the top of the screen is the Dashboard header, which contains the navigation tabs, and your profile links. 10

Figure 11 - The Professional ebook Connect Dashboard header The number and type of tabs available are associated with the roles that have been assigned to you. For example, accounts with just the User role will only see the Library tab. As a Curator, you have an additional tab the Licenses tab. Click on the Licenses tab to assign licenses to users in your organization. Viewing the Licenses and License Details in the Dashboard The Licenses panel is broken into three grids, Titles which contain a listing and details of the Titles to which you have access; Contacts which is the list of users that you have added to system and can therefore to whom you extend license invitations; and Licenses in Use, which is a list of the license invitations that you have extended and their current status. Figure 12 - The License Management Screen Grids The Titles grid is a list of the subscription licenses to titles that you have activated, and that you can manage. The grid contains a number of columns, which offer details for each of the subscriptions. 11

Figure 13 - A sample Titles grid, with 4 subscription sets These details include the Name of the Title, the Title s Expiry Date, the total number of Licenses that are within the subscription s License Set, the number of Licenses that have been Used, the Product Code for the Title, and an icon link - - to see additional details related to this subscription. Clicking on the icon link opens the additional information window, which displays information related to this subscription that does not appear in the grid, such as the permissions, the date created, and the list of Curators who have the right to manage this subscription. Creating and Managing Contacts Figure 14 - A sample Subscription Additional Information Window Before you can assign a license, you must first create a contact to whom the license invitation will be sent. Creating a contact is simple and straightforward. 12

Figure 15 - The Contact Grid - Adding a New Contact To add a user, click on the Add User ( ) button in the top right corner of the grid. This will activate the first column s edit boxes, allowing you to add the contacts First Name, Last Name, E-mail Address, and to select the Language Preference. The Language preference will impact the language of the license invitation e-mail that is sent to this user when a license is assigned to them. Click on the accept symbol ( ) to confirm the creation of the new contact, or the cancel symbol ( ). Once an contact has been created, you can edit the contact by clicking on the edit symbol ( contact by clicking on the delete symbol ( ). ) or remove the Assigning Licenses Each entry in the Title and Contact grids has a checkbox to the left ( and ) that will be used in the process of assigning a license to a contact. To send a license invitation to one or more Contacts, select the Title or Titles to which the Contact(s) should have access by checking the boxes next to that/those Titles. Then check the boxes next to the Contact(s) that should receive the license invitations. 13

Figure 16 - A Title that is about to be Assigned to Three Contacts Once the proper boxes have been checked, click on the Send Invites button ( Invitation e-mail to that Contact. ) to trigger a Title License A confirmation message will appear at the top of the Licenses panel. Figure 17 - The confirmation message. Once you have assigned a license to a Contact, the delete icon ( ) will be removed. To remove a contact, you must first remoke the license assignments for that user, after which the delete icon will reappear. 14

Viewing License Assignments To view the details of the license assignments, you must first select the license from the Titles grid for which you want to see the details. When a license is selected, the background of the row will change to a light yellow, and the Licenses in Use grid will update to show the details of the license assignments. Figure 18 - The Licenses in Use Detail View The Licenses in Use grid displays how you have assigned licenses to Titles. When a Title has been selected in the Titles grid, the heading for the Licenses in Use grid will update to show the name of the Title whose details are being displayed. A number of columns show the details of the licenses that have been assigned. The Recipient column displays the e-mail address to which a license activation invitation was sent. The User contains the Display Name of the User who activated the license and associated it with their account. The Delivered column displays the date the invitation was sent to the user, Expiration shows the date that the subscription for that license will expire, Responded contains the date that license was accepted. The Status columns indicates whether the license has been Assigned, or is still Pending, meaning the user has not yet activated the license. Resending Invitations and Revoking Licenses The last column contains that icon links that can be used to manage assigned licenses. The delete icon ( ) can be used to Revoke the invitation, whether or not it has been accepted. Revoked license invitations will then modify the number of licenses available, meaning that the license can then be reassigned to another user. The Resend Invitation ( ) is available to uses whose status is Pending. Use the Resend icon link to regenerate the License Invitation for that user. This can be useful, for example, when the incorrect e-mail was originally used you can update the e-mail entry in the Contacts grid, and then refresh the page and select the Title from the grid to repopulate the Licenses in Use grid with the updated information. You can then click on the icon to resend the invitation. Manipulating and Navigating Grids You can Sort the grid listings by clicking on the header of each column. An arrow ( ) will appear in that column header indicating that the grid is sorted by that header in either alphabetical (an up pointing arrow) or reverse alphabetical (a down pointing arrow) order. The grids will display a certain number of entries in each page. To navigate between pages, use either the numerical page listing, or the First / Last and Next /Previous page links at the bottom right of the grid. The current page and total number of pages is indicated to the bottow left of the grid. 15

Each of the grids has a Search option towards the top right corner of the grid. This feature allows you to narrow the number of rows displayed in the grid to only entries that have text which matches the contents of the search box. To narrow the scope of the grid, enter the desired text in the search box and hit enter on your keyboad. To clear the search and reveal all rows in the grid, delete the contents of the search box and hit enter. 16

User Options The following are the options available to the Curator through the Professional ebook Connect system. Receiving and Activating a Title License Invitation Accessing your Professional ebook Title begins with the receipt on an e-mail that contains a unique link used to activate a license to that Title and associate it with your Connect Account. If you do not have a Connect account at the time that your receive the Title License Activation e-mail, you can create your account and associate the Title License with your new account in a single step. The Title License Activation e-mail When you purchase access to a Professional ebook Title, or when access to a Title is assigned to you by a Subscription Curator in your organization, the system will automatically generate an e-mail and send it to your e-mail address. The Title License Activation e-mails that are generated by the system are customizable for each Title, and so their presentation can be very different from one Title to the next. While each e-mail may contain different instructional text, branding and images, a license agreement, and support information, they will all contain a unique link that is used to activate your Title license and associated it with your Connect account. Figure 19 - A Sample Title License Activation e-mail Triggering this link will open the Connect website in your browser and prompt you to login to or create your Connect account. Note If you are not the individual who should have access to this Title, for example, if you were making this purchase on behalf of another user, you can forward the e-mail to that user to that they can use the link to attach the license to their own Connect account. When you click on the activation link, the Professional ebook Connect website will open and offer to connect this license set to your account. This connection is automatically established by either logging in, or by creating a new account. For more information on creating your Professional ebook Connect account, see the section entitled Creating a Professional ebook Connect Account. 17

Login To Activate this License or Create a New account Figure 20 - Activating a New License The Welcome Confirmation e-mail After you have activated your License, the Connect system will generate and send a Welcome e-mail to the address associated with your Connect account as a means of confirming that your license was successfully created. The content and format of a Title Welcome e-mails are populated and formatted by the Publisher of the Title, and can vary from one Title to the next. In most cases, the Welcome e-mail will contain information such as how to assign licenses, where to download software, license agreement details, and where to get support. When you have successfully created this connection between the Title License and your Connect Account, you have become a User for that Title. With your Title activated and your Connect Account created, you are ready to download the Professional ebook ereader software and access your title. Professional ebook Connect User Options Viewing Your Title Licenses After creating or logging into your account, you will be presented with the Professional ebook Connect Dashboard, which contains information and news related to the system. At the top of the screen is the Dashboard header, which contains the navigation tabs, and your profile links. Figure 21 - The Professional ebook Connect Dashboard header 18
