Scpe Equipment used: Cmputer (PC r laptp), USB cable standard A t 5 Pin Mini B USB Cable. This cable is als available thrugh OMNI as part # K0200404 (10 ft length). Abstract URGENT NOTICE: During the time taken t reflash the CPU All users are required t make sure that the flw cmputer is nt frced clsed during the reflashing prcedure. Extreme damage may ccur t the CPU bard. The USB cnnectr will be trn away frm the CPU and users will nt be able t cntinue t reflash the CPU. Reflashing Steps Use the fllwing steps t update FLASH memry: Befre re-flashing any CPU: NOTE: Ensure yu have the latest revisin f SmartFlash installed n yur laptp r PC. Available at www.mniflw.cm (Dwnlads). Use OMNICOM t retrieve the current cnfiguratin. Changing Applicatins will cause the cnfiguratin t be cleared during the update prcess. Make sure the USB drivers are laded n the cmputer t be used (see Sectin Installing USB Drivers ) Pwer dwn the flw cmputer Open the OMNI Flw Cmputer (CAUTION: these units have an integral cabinet latching mechanism which first must be disengaged by lifting the bezel upwards befre withdrawing the inner chassis frm the case) and remve the CPU mdule. (Figures 1 and 2 fr the lcatin f the CPU mdule). Please use cautin when extracting the CPU mdule as the ribbn cable cnnecting it t the frnt panel culd be damaged. Figure 1. Re-install the CPU mdule and pwer up the flw cmputer (PC r Laptp). Make sure the Prgram Lckut Switch (lwer red switch), lcated n the rear face f the frnt panel is in the Prgram Enabled psitin (Figures 1 and 2 fr lcatin). Pwer up Cmputer (PC r laptp) and cnnect USB cable frm cmputer t the USB cnnectr (Figure 3) n the CPU Mdule in the OMNI. Press and hld the <Prg> key n the frnt panel keypad. Press the Reset switch (upper red switch), lcated n the rear face f the frnt panel (Figures 1 and 2 fr lcatin). Release the Reset switch while cntinuing t hld the <Prg> key n the frnt panel keypad. A Bt Optin Menu shuld appear n the frnt panel display. On the frnt panel display, scrll dwn t the Enter BtLader ptin using the dwn arrw key and press the <Enter> key. A sample screen is shwn in Figure 4. Figure 4. Sample Screen Run SmartFlash, (SmartFlash.exe), frm the cmputer. Usually, this is lcated in the C:\Omniflw flder f yur PC r laptp. Figure 5 SmartFlash Device Prgrammer screen shuld appear. Figure 5. SmartFlash Device Prgrammer 52-0000-0016/Rev C Page 5 f 8
Make the fllwing selectins: Fr the Target Unit, select OMNI 68-6201 Select the Cnnect buttn fr SmartFlash t retrieve the current FLASH memry cnfiguratin. Select the binary flash file t be transferred t the CPU. NOTE: When flashing mre than ne (1) image int FLASH memry, they are dne ne at a time. Select which FLASH applicatin image lcatin yu want the applicatin file t be prgrammed t ( Flash Image 1 r Flash Image 2 ). Select which f the tw (2) applicatin images is t be bted by default n pwer-up r reset. Select whether yu wuld like t clear cnfiguratin memry nly, r clear all memry. NOTE: Clearing all memry will als frce a unit t reset and bt up t the selected default applicatin. Hwever, if the bt memry applicatin is changed, if there is a jump in revisins, r if a previus revisin is installed, the cnfiguratin will be cleared at the first pwer-up reset. Always back-up the cnfiguratin befre starting the flash prcess. Clearing all memry des nt lse any f the I/O calibratins, these are restred frm EEPROM that is lcated n the CPU mdule. Select the Start buttn t initiate the prgramming sequence (Figure 6). Once the flash image is transferred t temprary hlding RAM n the CPU mdule, it will be autmatically verified and yu will be prmpted t select whether yu want t g ahead and prgram the actual FLASH memry (Figure 6). Select OK. Figure 6. Prgramming Sequence When installing the secnd flash image fr multiple applicatins, select the next flash image file n yur PC, select the desired image lcatin (Flash Image 1 r Flash Image 2) and repeat the previus step. Exit the SmartFlash applicatin n the PC. Remve the USB cable frm the OMNI Flw Cmputer. This can be dne befre pwering dwn the OMNI Flw Cmputer. 52-0000-0016/Rev C Page 6 f 8
Pwer dwn the OMNI Flw Cmputer, remve the CPU mdule (take care with the frnt panel ribbn cable) and place the Flash Update jumper in the disabled psitin. Failure t d s will cause an alarm t be displayed n reset r pwer-up. Replace the CPU mdule and pwer-up the flw cmputer. Using OMNICOM, transfer the saved cnfiguratin if required. Installing USB Drivers Win XP, 2000, Vista There are tw (2) methds fr installing the necessary USB drivers fr Win2000/XP/Vista. Methd number 1 is the easiest methd and is recmmended. Methd number 2 is the standard methd fr installing a driver in Windws which invlves interactin with the Fund New Hardware Wizard dialgs. Methd 1 - RECOMMENDED This methd shuld be implemented PRIOR t cnnecting yur PC t a OMNI 68-6201 unit. Lcate the file CDM_Setup.exe within the SmartFlash applicatin installatin directry. The standard SmartFlash installatin directry is given as fllws: C:\OmniFlw\SmartFlash Execute the executable file CDM_Setup.exe using the Windws Start menu Run selectin. Use the Run dialg s Brwse buttn t navigate t the CDM_Setup.exe file. Press the OK buttn t execute the file. Alternately, the file can be executed frm within Windws Explrer navigate t the file lcatin and duble-click it t execute the file. A message dialg will appear indicating that the driver was successfully installed. Methd 2 Apply pwer t a unit with an installed 68-6201 CPU bard. Cnnect the USB between the unit and the PC requiring driver installatin. Windws will recgnize that a new device type has been cnnected and will invke the Fund New Hardware Wizard series f dialgs t perfrm a manual installatin f the required driver files. Driver files are lcated in the fllwing standard lcatin: C:\OmniFlw\SmartFlash\USB Drivers\Windws Vista-XP-2K The SmartFlash installatin includes driver installatin guides fr bth Windws 2000 and Windws XP/Vista. These guides are in the frm f PDF files and are specified as fllws: C:\OmniFlw\SmartFlash\USB Drivers\Windws Vista-XP-2K\Windws 2000 Installatin Guide.pdf C:\OmniFlw\SmartFlash\USB Drivers\Windws Vista-XP-2K\Windws XP Installatin Guide.pdf Fllw Sectin 2.1 Installing CDM Drivers in the apprpriate installatin guide t cmplete the installatin.
