Get Started Clicker Sentences is part of a family of Clicker Apps, which develop reading and writing skills in learners of all abilities, including struggling writers, children with special needs and English language learners. Clicker Sentences enables children to write sentences using whole words. They can hear what they have written and can listen to words before they write them. A range of support options is offered, and teachers can easily enter any sentences for children to write. 1

Use, Create, and Edit Sentence Sets Open a Sentence Set To open a Sentence Set, tap to browse your ipad, LearningGrids, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or WebDAV, and then tap a Sentence Set to open it. Alternatively, tap to choose a Sentence Set from a list of favorites. Write with a Sentence Set Use Sentence Sets to write sentences using whole words. A Sentence Set contains one or more grids. Each grid contains a number of cells. The Document fills the top of the screen. The current grid fills the bottom of the screen. Tap cells to construct a sentence in the Document. Swipe the grid backwards/forwards to move to the previous/next grid. To change this, see Accessibility. Tools Use the Tools when writing: 2

Use, Create, and Edit Sentence Sets Delete - delete the last word New Line - start writing on a new line Sound Shift - turn Sound Shift on/off Show Grid/Keyboard - switch between the grid and keyboard If your grid has a pop-up or spoken model sentence, another tool appears to the left: Show Model - see the model sentence Speak Model - hear the model sentence Speak Text in the Sentence Set To speak text in the Sentence Set, use the single use, double-tap to keep it turned on. Sound Shift tool. Tap this for When Sound Shift is on: To speak the contents of a cell, tap it. To speak the Document, see Speak in the Document. If you can't hear the speech, check that the sound on your ipad is not muted via the side switch, and that the volume is set correctly. Get Sentence Sets from LearningGrids As a Clicker Sentences user, you get free access to our growing library of Sentence Sets on our LearningGrids site. To access these, tap on the left. and tap LearningGrids A list of recently added Sentence Sets is displayed. Use the top search bar to find Sentence Sets for your topic. To open a Sentence Set, tap Run Now. Sentence Sets opened from LearningGrids are automatically saved in your LearningGrids Downloads folder, so you can easily use them again. You can also access LearningGrids by visiting www.learninggrids.com from any web browser. 3

Clicker Sentences User Guide Send a Copy of the Sentence Set To send a copy of the Sentence Set, go to Edit View, tap Copy. and choose Send a Choose from the available options to send your file. Create a Sentence Set To create a new Sentence Set, go to Edit View, tap Sentence Set. and choose New Alternatively, tap, tap and choose Sentence Set to create a new Sentence Set at the current location. Edit a Sentence Set To edit a Sentence Set, tap to enter Edit View. A Sentence Set contains one or more grids, which are listed in the left pane. To select a grid, tap it. The right pane displays the selected grid and its settings. Add Grids To add a grid, tap Add and type a sentence into the text box in the right pane. To include multiple words in one cell, surround them with ( ) or [ ]. To quickly create multiple grids, tap Add Text. Type or Paste text and then tap Create Grids. Arrange Grids To arrange your grids, tap Edit: To change a grid's position in the list, drag its handle. To delete a grid, tap its icon, and then tap Delete. Tap Done to finish. Model Sentence 4

Use, Create, and Edit Sentence Sets The model sentence options offer different levels of support for your learners: None - no model is provided. On Grid - the model appears on the grid, where it can always be seen. In Pop-up - the learner taps the Show Model tool to see the model in a pop-up, which must be closed before they can continue writing. Spoken - the learner taps the Speak Model tool to hear the model spoken. Word Order To change the ordering of words on the grid, tap one of the following: Alphabetical - words are ordered alphabetically. Random - words are ordered randomly each time the grid is opened. Sentence Order - words are ordered according to the sentence. Guided Order - words are shown in sentence order and can only be tapped sequentially. Background Color To change the grid's background, tap a color. For more colors, tap. Add a Picture To add a picture to the grid: Tap to take a photo. Tap to search the CrickPix library or browse your ipad's Photos. Tap to remove the current picture. To adjust the picture, use pinch-zoom and drag. Apply Settings to All Grids To apply the current grid's settings to all grids in the Sentence Set, tap Apply Settings to All Grids. 5

Work with Documents Open or Create a Document To open a Document, tap to browse your ipad, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or WebDAV, and then tap a Document to open it. Create a Document To create a new Document, tap and choose New Document. Alternatively, tap, tap and choose Document to create a new Document at the current location. Write into the Document Write into the Document using a Sentence Set or the keyboard. To switch between them, tap the Show Grid/Keyboard tool. To learn about Sentence Sets, see Write with a Sentence Set. Using the Keyboard Tap a key to type it in the Document. To capitalize the next letter, tap. To return to lower case, tap. To delete a character, tap the Delete tool. To access numbers and punctuation symbols, tap. To return to letters, tap. Navigation Navigation keys appear along the bottom of the numbers keyboard. To move the cursor, tap and. To move the cursor a word at a time, tap and. 6

Work with Documents To hide the keyboard, tap. To bring it back, tap the Document. Text Selection To select a word in the Document, double-tap it. To select multiple words, double-tap the first one, and then drag the blue handles. To select all words, long-tap anywhere and tap Select All. With text selected, you can perform these actions: Cut - copy and remove the selection. Copy - copy the selection. Paste - replace the selection with copied text. Speak - speak the selection. To paste text into the Document that is copied from elsewhere, long-tap where you want it, and then tap Paste. To turn off text selection, see Accessibility. Speak the Document To speak the entire Document, long-tap anywhere within it and tap Speak All. To speak part of the Document, use the use, double tap to keep it turned on. Sound Shift tool. Clicker Sentences User Guide To send a copy of the Document, tap and choose Send a Copy. To send a Clicker Document, tap Clicker Document. To send a universal plain text file (no pictures), tap Text File. To send a PDF, tap PDF File. Choose from the available options to send your file. Print the Document To print the Document, tap and choose Print. Tap Select Printer to choose one from a list of AirPrint printers that your ipad can find on your network. Specify the number of copies you'd like and tap Print. Your ipad's orientation determines whether your Document is printed in landscape or portrait. Open as PDF To open the Document as a PDF, tap and choose Open as PDF. Choose from the available options to open the PDF. Your ipad's orientation determines whether the PDF will be landscape or portrait. 8

Manage Documents and Sentence Sets File Explorer To access all the Documents and Sentence Sets on your ipad, tap. In Explorer: To open a Document, Sentence Set or folder, tap it. To return to the previous folder, tap the back arrow. To create a new Document, Sentence Set or folder, tap. You can also delete, rename, copy, and share files. Free Sentence Sets can be downloaded from LearningGrids. You can also connect to a Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive account, or a WebDAV file server. To enable these features, see Sharing. Backing up To keep backup copies of your files, copy them to Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or WebDAV. Opening a file from any of these sources creates a new copy, keeping your backup copy intact. Delete, Rename, Copy, and Share To perform these actions on files and folders in the File Explorer, tap Edit. Tap items to select them, and then do one of the following: To delete selected items, tap Delete. To copy selected items, tap Copy. Browse to your desired location and tap Paste to copy them there. To share selected items, tap Share and choose from the available options to share your files. To rename an item, long-tap its current name. Tap Done to finish. 9

Clicker Sentences User Guide (It's not possible to rename or delete files directly within Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or WebDAV) Get Sentence Sets from LearningGrids As a Clicker Sentences user, you get free access to our growing library of Sentence Sets on our LearningGrids site. To access these, tap on the left. and tap LearningGrids A list of recently added Sentence Sets is displayed. Use the top search bar to find Sentence Sets for your topic. To open a Sentence Set, tap Run Now. Sentence Sets opened from LearningGrids are automatically saved in your LearningGrids Downloads folder, so you can easily use them again. You can also access LearningGrids by visiting www.learninggrids.com from any web browser. Dropbox Use Dropbox to share files between ipads. To learn about Dropbox, visit www.dropbox.com. To enable sharing with Dropbox, tap, choose Sharing and turn on Dropbox. To access Dropbox, tap and tap Dropbox on the left. Link Your Account To link your account, tap Link to Dropbox. Enter your account details and tap Sign in. To unlink your account, tap Edit and tap Unlink Dropbox. Add Files to Dropbox To add a file to Dropbox, first create it on your ipad, and then copy and paste it to Dropbox. Your files are stored in the Apps\Clicker folder (previously Apps\Clicker Sentences). Google Drive Use Google Drive to share files between ipads. To learn about Google Drive, visit drive.google.com. To enable sharing with Google Drive, tap Drive., choose Sharing and turn on Google To access Google Drive, tap and tap Google Drive on the left. Link Your Account To link your account, tap Link to Google Drive. Enter your account details and tap Sign in. To unlink your account, tap Edit and tap Unlink Google Drive. Add Files to Google Drive To add a file to Google Drive, first create it on your ipad, and then copy and paste it to Google Drive. Manage Documents and Sentence Sets Use WebDAV to share files between ipads. WebDAV enables you to access files stored on your server over the Internet. Ask your network administrator to set this up and add the Clicker Sentences MIME Types to the server. To enable sharing with WebDAV, tap, tap Sharing and turn on WebDAV. To access files on a WebDAV server, tap and tap WebDAV on the left. Link to WebDAV To link to a WebDAV server, tap Link to WebDAV. Enter the address of the server and your account details, and then tap. To unlink from the server, tap Edit and tap Unlink WebDAV. Add Files to WebDAV To add a file to WebDAV, first create it on your ipad, then copy and paste it to WebDAV. You can also send files to WebDAV from the menu in Edit View. menu in the toolbar and the Open Files from WebDAV To open a file from WebDAV, tap it. Manage WebDAV files To delete or rename WebDAV files, access your WebDAV server from elsewhere. Favorites and Recents To access a list of Sentence Sets that you have favorited or recently used, tap. To add the current Sentence Set to your Favorites, tap Add. To remove a Sentence Set from Favorites, tap Edit, tap its Delete. Customize Settings Document To adjust these settings for all Documents, tap and choose Document: Font - choose a font style from the list. Font Size - drag the slider bar to change font size. Background Color - choose the color of the Document. Text Color - choose the color of the text. Speech To adjust these settings, tap and choose Speech: Voice - choose which voice to use. Speed - choose how quickly the voice reads text. Highlight Color - choose which color is used to highlight words as they are spoken. Speak Each Word - words are spoken when typed or sent to the Document. Speak Each Sentence - the current sentence is spoken when completed with punctuation. Sharing To adjust these settings, tap and choose Sharing: Dropbox - enables the Dropbox section of the File Explorer. Google Drive - enables the Google Drive section of the File Explorer. OneDrive - enables the OneDrive section of the File Explorer. WebDAV - enables the WebDAV section of the File Explorer. Accessibility To adjust these settings, tap and choose Accessibility: 14

Customize Settings Swipe Grids - turn this off to prevent swiping between grids. Instead, tap the arrows in the bottom corners to move between grids. Show Touches - when turned on, a red circle appears where a touch occurs. Allow Text Selection - turn this off to prevent selecting text. Enlarge When Tapped - when turned on, cells briefly expand to indicate when they're tapped. Display Settings For learners with low vision, you can adjust the fonts and colors used in Documents. To learn more, see Document. Guided Access Use your ipad's Guided Access feature to temporarily prevent switching to other apps and restrict access to parts of Clicker Sentences (such as Settings or the File Explorer). To turn on Guided Access, open your ipad's Settings app, tap General on the left, tap Accessibility on the right, and turn on Guided Access. To configure Switch Control, open your ipad's Settings app, tap General on the left, tap Accessibility on the right, and then tap Switch Control. To learn more, see: support.apple.com/ht201370 Set Language To change the language options for Clicker Sentences, open your ipad's Settings app and tap Sentences on the left. To set the language of the user interface, tap Language. To set your region, tap Resources. This determines which resources appear on LearningGrids and in the Examples folder. (Changing the language does not automatically change the voice. To do this, see Speech.) 15
