Mobile Network Evolution Eclipse Packet Node, enabling the 4G mobile broadband future The explosive demand for the next-generation mobile user experience is forcing operators to quickly implement dataintensive, packet-based services, which now threatens networks with a potential capacity crunch. The traditional reliance on copper leased lines and fiber as the means of interconnecting base stations will clearly not support the backhaul demands of 4G/LTE. In contrast, microwave backhaul technology will allow mobile operators to increase their network capacity and efficiency, while also lowering their overall operational costs. The Eclipse Packet Node wireless backhaul solution provides the scalable capacity, IP network intelligence and key convergence features required. Mobile operators can avoid the backhaul bottleneck and meet these growing demands by evolving their backhaul networks to support high-speed IP, simplifying the most difficult network migration hurdles as they introduce new broadband services using HSPA, WiMAX or eventually LTE.

Any-G Transport Eclipse Packet Node is ready for the Next Generation Eclipse Packet Node Eclipse Packet Node uniquely combines high-speed native IP transport with advanced convergence features, providing operators with a 4G-ready solution that also supports a smooth transition from their existing network infrastructure. Operators need to introduce new broadband services supported with IP transport applications, while also maintaining the quality and continuity of the existing TDM-based backhaul network for valuable voice subscribers. Eclipse Packet Node convergence features provide a smooth evolutionary path, without forklift upgrades or having to adapt TDM services over new IP infrastructure. Hybrid Native Mixed-Mode operation supports both new IP and existing TDM services Comprehensive TDM networking capabilities using Harris Stratex Networks Super-PDH technology provides advanced support for legacy traffic Adaptive Optimization enables RAN optimization and bandwidth recovery from existing TDM backhaul to maximize 99.999% availability for new packet data transport Integrated network synchronization, including IEEE 1588v2 and Synchronous Ethernet Eclipse Packet Node enables operators to build upon existing investments in TDM backhaul deployed for support of legacy 2G and 3G ATM/IMA infrastructure, enabling an evolved approach to deploying and eventually migrating to all-ip.

Eclipse Packet Node, supporting multi-service convergence The heart of the Eclipse Packet Node is a modular intelligent nodal indoor unit, which provides high-speed IP transport, multi-service convergence and aggregation for wireless backhaul networks. Advanced Packet Plane TM architecture Eclipse Packet Node introduces a new high-speed packet plane to support significantly enhanced IP nodal capacities required for 4G network backhaul evolution. Packet node supports the highest nodal packet processing capability and highest link throughputs of any other platform on the market: 25 Gbit/s aggregate nodal switching capacity 5 Gbit/s of packet handling capacity 2 Gbit/s of nodal packet radio traffic capacity Up to 600 of IP throughput in single 30 MHz channel (using XPIC) Up to 1 Gbit/s of IP throughput in a single 50 MHz channel (using XPIC) Eclipse Packet Node is certified Carrier-Ethernet compliant to MEF 9 and MEF 14. Certification provides an assurance of interoperability, now and into the future. Eclipse Packet Node has all the horse power and upgrade capability built-in, so that operators can be sure of a fully scalable solution to meet their future backhaul capacity demands, whenever and wherever in the network they may arise. Advanced network features simplify operational complexities Eclipse Packet Node builds in Layer 2 intelligence and MEF Certified Carrier Ethernet features. Advanced QoS features, including port and VLAN prioritization, VLAN Q and Q-in-Q tagging Simplified network synchronization with all-packet Synchronous Ethernet and IEEE 1588v2 support IEEE 802.3ag/ah enabled on board to provide end-to-end OAM RWPR (Resilient Wireless Packet Ring) supports Ethernet ring and mesh network protection Ethernet diagnostics, including RMON performance data, history and data-dashboards Native mixed-mode supports legacy NxDS1, DS3 and OC-3 requirements Flexible modular architecture enables key transmission features The modular Eclipse Packet Node design enables simple link and network expansion and multi-service traffic interfaces, all through simple card exchange. Advanced link features, such as Adaptive Coding and Modulation and XPIC Super-efficient frequency utilization through high modulation support up to 256 QAM in all channel bandwidths Innovative coding enhancements for improved RF path performance, with up to 6 db of additional system gain NEBs Level 3 environmental compliance Strong security features to prevent unauthorized access and configuration changes NetBoss, ProVision and Eclipse Portal for remote and local management
