There are numerous social media channels, but the most well-known are: Twitter Facebook YouTube Instagram Pinterest

Twitter provides users with 140 characters (letters, numbers and spaces) to offer their opinion or comment, share images or videos, and share links to websites Registered Facebook users create personal profiles, add other users as friends, exchange messages, join and join common-interest user groups YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users can upload, view and share videos

Instagram is an online photo-sharing, videosharing and social networking service that enables users to take pictures and videos, apply digital filters to them, and share them on a variety of social media sites Pinterest is a visual discovery tool that people use to collect ideas for projects and interests. Users create and share collections (called boards ) of visual bookmarks (called Pins )

Facebook getting started As a business you ll need to create page, rather than a personal account. Facebook doesn t make this as simple as it could, but there are lots of online guides out there. Additionally, as you get started, it might be worth using the services of a social media consultant.

YouTube getting started Go to www.youtube.com and click Create Account. YouTube will help you with the rest

Instagram getting started On an iphone Go to Apple Store and search for Instagram. The App is free and will come up when you search. Click Download. Once downloaded, open the App and follow the instructions to get started. On an android Go to Google play and search for Instagram. The App is free and will come up when you search. Click Install. Once downloaded, open the App and follow the instructions to get started.

Pinterest getting started Go to www.pinterest.com and sign up. You can either sign up via your Facebook account, or via email. There s no best way to sign up, do whatever your comfortable with. Pinterest will walk you through the rest so you can get pinning!

Use common sense Ensure your profile and details are professional and appropriate Think before you post If you wouldn t share it in person, don t say it on social media Be courteous and polite Don t bombard other users Don t share personal information
