Product Bulletin FX I/O Modules Issue Date July 6, 2009 FX Input/Output (I/O) Modules XM07 and XM14 The FX Input/Output (I/O) Modules provide additional physical input and output points for FX field controllers in the Facility Explorer range of products. The modules extend the capability of the FX16X Master Controller to monitor and control additional points within its control application. The modules do not perform control functions (See Figure 1). The FX I/O Module Series also includes models with manual s for a number of the analog, relay, and triac outputs. The manual function is always active when power is applied to the module. The manual function does not depend on communication with the FX16X Master Controller. XM07 modules have 18 physical inputs and outputs including relays and triacs, with four digital output s and two analog output s. XM14 modules have 31 physical inputs and outputs including relays and triacs, with seven digital output s and three analog output s. Both support a wide range of temperature sensors and actuating devices. Active sensors for the measurement of humidity, pressure, and other variables are also supported as well as digital (binary) inputs. The modules communicate with an FX16X Master Controller over its local link bus. Using the FX Tools software package, you can fully configure and program the FX16X Master Controller and its connected FX I/O Modules for a wide range of commercial Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) applications. XM07 I/O Module XM14 I/O Module XM07 I/O Module with Overrides XM14 I/O Module with Overrides Figure 1: FX Input/Output (I/O) Modules Features and Benefits Expanded Input and Output Capability of FX16X Master Controllers Fully Programmable Modules Using the FX Tools Software Package Similar Design and Physical Characteristics as FX Controllers Models with Overrides for Digital and Analog Outputs Light-Emitting Diode (LED) Indicators for Digital Inputs and Outputs Local Link Bus Connection Enables the FX16X Master Controller to cover a wider range of HVACR control applications using the extensive programming features of the FX Tools software package. Excludes the need for additional skills to design, commission, and service an application with FX I/O Modules. Are easy to configure and integrate into an FX platform control system. Direct control of monitored and controlled equipment for test purposes. Provide a clear presentation of the status of equipment at the local level for commissioning and service. Allows for easy connection and can be mounted remotely from the FX16X Master Controller to reduce wiring costs. 2009 Johnson Controls, Inc. 1 Code No. LIT-12011456

Onboard Inputs and Outputs The FX I/O Modules support inputs and outputs with the following characteristics: Universal Inputs (UIs) (software configurable) A99 temperature sensor PT1000 Standard and Extended Range temperature sensors Ni1000 (Johnson Controls) temperature sensor Ni1000 Extended (Johnson Controls) temperature sensor Ni1000 Siemens (Landis+Gyr) temperature sensor Ni1000 DIN temperature sensor NTC 2.2k temperature sensor NTC 10k temperature sensor Active Voltage Active Ratiometric Active Current Potential-free contact Digital (Binary) Inputs (DIs) Voltage-free contacts LED indication with pulse counter option Digital (Binary) Outputs (DOs) relays (line voltage contacts) triacs (24 V or 230 VAC) LED indication manual switch (on-auto-off [I A 0]) Analog Outputs (AOs) (software configurable) 0-10 VDC at 10 ma Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) (100 Hz) Table 1 shows the number of inputs and outputs, and the number of manual s, available in the XM07 and XM14 model range. For full details see Technical Specifications. Table 1: Input and Outputs of FX I/O Modules Inputs and Outputs XM07 XM14 Universal Inputs 5 6 Digital (Binary) Inputs 4 12 Digital (Binary) Outputs 6 9 R = relay, T = triac 6R or 4R+2T 9R or 5R+4T With Override 4 7 Analog Outputs 3 4 With Override 2 3 Indicators and Controls Digital Input LEDs You can configure each digital input LED in the software application to illuminate green or red when the contact is open or closed. Green is normally used for a status indication and red for an alarm condition. Digital Output LEDs Digital output LEDs illuminate green when the output (relay contact or triac) is closed and the manual switch (if present) is in the auto position. For outputs with a manual switch, the LED illuminates amber when the switch is in the manual on position. Override on Analog Outputs Each output has a dial marked 0 10 with a push function to enable and disable the manual mode, which is indicated by an amber LED. See Figure 2 and Figure 3. Override on Digital Outputs Each output has a three-position switch labeled on-auto-off (I A O). In the on position, the digital output LED illuminates amber to indicate that you have overridden the output to the closed state. The manual s operate as long as power is applied to the module, and take priority over any command from the FX16X Master Controller application or supervisory system. See Figure 2 and Figure 3. 2 FX Input/Output (I/O) Modules XM07 and XM14

Figure 2: Override on XM07 Outputs Figure 3: Override on XM14 Outputs IMPORTANT: Do not use the manual switches for operations concerning the safety or emergency isolation of monitored and controlled equipment. The output relays of the XM module are controlled by firmware-driven electronic circuits and not directly by the manual switches. Local Link Communication Card The XM07 and XM14 modules are fitted with a local link (N2 Open) communication card for connection to the local link bus of an FX16X Master Controller. This allows the FX16X Master Controller to monitor and command the inputs and outputs of the XM modules as part of the control strategy in its software application. FX Tools Software Use the FX Tools software suite to program, download, test, and commission the FX I/O Modules as part of the application in the connected FX16X Master Controller. From the computer with the FX Tools software, you always communicate with the XM07 and XM14 modules through the FX16X Master Controller. FX Tools Pro CD includes: FX Builder used to program FX16X Master Controllers and FX I/O Modules. FX Builder provides complete flexibility in generating control applications. FX CommPro N2 used to download, test, and commission an FX16X Master Controller (including its XM modules) on an N2 Open network. FX CommPro LON used to download, test, and commission an FX16X Master Controller (including its XM modules) on a LONWORKS network. FX CommPro BACnet software used to download, test, and commission an FX16X Master Controller (including its XM modules) on a BACnet network. IMPORTANT: Use the XM07 I/O module and XM14 I/O module only as an operating control. Where failure or malfunction of the XM07 or XM14 module could lead to personal injury or property damage to the controlled equipment or other property, additional precautions must be designed into the control system. Incorporate and maintain other devices, such as supervisory or alarm systems or safety or limit controls, intended to warn of or protect against failure or malfunction of the XM07 or XM14 module.
