KIN 147 Lab Practical Mid-term: Tibial Acceleration Data Analysis Excel analyses work much better on PCs than on Macs (especially older Macs) Your goal is to correctly analyze accelerometer data Analyzing the CMJAS Acceleration Data o Open the Microsoft Excel file called KIN 147 Acceleration Data Analysis Template Under the File dropdown menu, select the Save As command Rename your file as follows: Your Name KIN 147 Lab Practical Mid-term Acceleration Data Analysis CMJAS Click on the Save button o You will be analyzing the participant s acceleration files. Select Scatter with Smooth Lines. o For Mac users, select the green Charts tab in the toolbar. Click on the Scatter icon. A drop down menu will appear. Select Smooth Line Scatter. 2

Trim the vertical axis for the chart Exam the participant s Ax acceleration data Identify the maximum acceleration value o Move the mouse pointer above the data shown on the chart to the greatest acceleration value. A pop up window will open with 2 numbers in-between parentheses. The first of the numbers is the horizontal axis value (in this case, time). The second number is the vertical axis value (in this case, acceleration) o Write down the acceleration value o Round this number to the next higher integer value. o For example The participant s maximum acceleration was 7.3876g Round this number to the next higher integer of value of 8g Identify the minimum acceleration value o Move the mouse pointer above the data shown on the chart to the minimum acceleration value. A pop up window will open with 2 numbers in-between parentheses. The first of the numbers is the horizontal axis value (in this case, time). The second number is the vertical axis value (in this case, acceleration) o Write down the acceleration value o Round this number to the next lower integer value. o For example The participant s minimum acceleration was -1.7642g Rounding this number to the next lowest integer value of -2g Move the mouse pointer over the vertical axis of the participant s chart until a test box appears with the following words: Vertical (Value) Axis Perform a right mouse click On the menu that appears, select Format Axis In the window that appears, o Type in the maximum integer acceleration value you calculated above (e.g. 8) in the box labeled maximum o Type in the minimum integer acceleration value you calculated above (e.g., -2) in the box labeled minimum Find the following words Horizontal axis crosses o Select Axis value o Type in the minimum acceleration value on the vertical axis scale (e.g., -50) Trim the horizontal axis for the chart Use the same values for the corresponding CMJAS GRFz chart 3
