Introduction Respondus Respondus is a Windows application for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to a course management system. KSU has a campus-wide site license for Respondus. Exams can be created offline or retrieved from several course management systems. Respondus has many features including spell check, an equation editor, importing questions from Word and exporting answers to Excel. How to Access Respondus Go to https://web.kennesaw.edu/acs/service/respondus and follow the instructions given to download and activate you Respondus Account. You will need your NetID and Password to download. If you experience any problems, please contact the service desk at 770 423-6999 or service@kennesaw.edu Once you have downloaded the software, you can access the application by looking through the list of programs on your desktop. Important Note: This is a desktop application. Any quizzes you create in Respondus will reside on the desktop/laptop in which you created it. If you install Respondus on multiple machines, the quizzes are not shared. 2
Importing Questions into Respondus 1. Click on the Start Tab. 2. Click on Import Questions. Figure 1 - Start Tab 3. The import Questions pop-up window will appear. From the Type of file, select the appropriate file type from the drop down list. Note: plain text is best. 3
Figure 2 - Import Questions 4. Locate the file you wish to import, click on Browse. Important Note: Respondus file format structure is very specific, please see Respondus Appendix: Importing File Format document for more details. 5. Choose where to add the new Questions in step 2 of import questions window. 6. Click Preview to view questions. This will allow you to view any warning messages. Note: Not all warning messages require action. 7. If all questions imported properly and you wish to proceed. Click on Finish. Note: If you need to make additional changes to the file, select the Edit Tab. 4
Publishing to GeorgiaVIEW Vista Open Respondus Figure 3 - Start Tab 1. On the Respondus Start tab, click the Current Personality box and select WebCT 6 8 / Vista 4-8 from the pull-down list. 2. Click on Open a Respondus file. 3. Select the quiz file you wish to import to Vista and then click Open. 4. If you wish, you can edit the file at this point. If you wish to proceed, click on the Preview and Publish Tab. 5
5. Click on Publish to WebCT. 6. Click on Publish Wizard. Figure 4 - Publish Wizard 7. Select Publish to single course. 8. Click the drop down arrow in the WebCT Server field and select "add new server." 9. Select No, I want to enter the server settings manually from the Add New Server Settings pop-up window. 10. Click Next. 6
Figure 5 - WebCT Server Information 11. Go to the Log in page of GeorgiaVIEW Vista and copy and paste the address of that page into the box in Step 2 of the WebCT 6 Server Information. 7
Figure 6 - GeorgiaVIEW Vista Login Screen 12. In Step 3 of WebCT 6 Server Information, click the Extract button. 13. In Step 4, of WebCT 6 Server Information, click on the Institutions button. 14. Choose Kennesaw State University. 15. In Step 5, enter your Description, NetID and Password. 16. Click OK. 17. Under WebCT 6 Server, select the server name you created from the drop down list. 18. Click Next. 8
Figure 7 - Publish Wizard 19. Select the Group or Section you wish to publish your quiz from the drop down list, in Step 1. 20. Choose to create a new Category or Use an existing category, in Step 2. 21. Make you desired selections in Step 3. 22. Click on Next. A window will appear which shows your import request processing. 23. When you see Completed successfully, click Finish. 24. Log into GeorgiaVIEW Vista to view your quiz. 9

3. Select Retrieve Questions from left. 4. Click the drop down arrow in the WebCT Server field and select "-add new server-." 5. Select Yes, check for preconfigured server settings from the Add New Server Settings popup window. Figure 10 - Add New Server Settings 6. Click Next. 7. When the Preconfigured Server Settings Wizard window appears, enter a name to describe the Vista server (e.g.: Vista Server). 8. Enter your NetID credentials. 11
Figure 11 - Preconfigured Server Settings Wizard 9. Click Next. 10. Once the Server Connection Test is over, click Next. 11. Click Finish. You will return to the Retrieval and Reports tab. Figure 12 Retrieval and Reports Tab 12. From Retrieve Questions on the left side menu, select the Vista Server you created. 12
13. Select the course from the pull-down Group or Section menu. 14. Select the Quiz to be retrieved from the pull-down menu. 15. Enter a name for the new file (it can be the same as the current name). 16. Click Retrieve. Figure 13 - Retrieve Questions The questions of the quiz you selected are now available in Respondus. When finished: 1. To view the questions in Respondus, Go back to the Start tab and select Open. 13
