WP1: BMWI / DLR/PT-LF (GERMANY) will manage this work package as the coordinator WP1 comprises the following activities: Management activities Administrative overall management of all legal, contractual and financial issues related to the AirTN project as well as all basic managerial tasks. Technical and scientific coordination / Interface activities The overall coordination of the work packages in the AirTN network shall be performed through the coordinator and the AirTN Management Team (work package leaders) 8
WP2: EZ/NIVR/NLR (THE NETHERLANDS) will manage this work package WP2 comprises the following activities: Establishment of a virtual laboratory to be used as an electronic communication and archive tool to increase coherence to facilitate co-ordination of all activities to promote co-operation across work packages The web-site (www.airtn.eu) will consist of: a public part (active) a restricted part (Intranet active soon) 9
WP3: BMVIT / FFG (AUSTRIA) will manage this work package WP3 comprises the following activities: Exchange information on existing civil aeronautics programmes, running projects and the respective RTD priorities to collect all relevant information to send out a questionnaire to all partners (done, October 2006) to organise two workshops that bring together programme managers and stakeholders. Workshop 1 Information exchange, exchange of opinions and mutual learning Workshop 2 Identification of pillars for future cooperation 10
WP4: DTI (UNITED KINGDOM) will manage this work package WP4 comprises the following activities: Describe the global civil aeronautics RTD landscape considering the global competitiveness of European industry and supply chain by focussing on types of research undertaken in different global regions funding structures existing in countries outside of the EU major aeronautics programmes key industry and international supply chain issues activities of other organisations level of internationalisation involved The aim will be achieved by identification of relevant information, analysis, reporting and dissemination. International linkages and exchanges may also be established. 11
WP5: DPAC/ONERA (FRANCE) will manage this work package WP5 comprises the following activities: Collect information on R&T on a research area by research area basis and initiate possible joint actions Preparation of 7 expert meetings : 1st meeting: structures 26th January in Chatillon 2nd meeting: materials/manufacturing February 2007 in Lausanne 3rd meeting: propulsion May-June 2007 in Poland 4th meeting: aerodynamics October/November 2007 in Romania 5th meeting: flight mechanics/systems and integration without ATM February 2008 in Italy 6th meeting: ATM May/June 2008 in Baltic states 7th meeting: helicopter September 2008 in UK 12
WP6: MUR / CIRA (ITALY) with support from EUROCONTROL will manage this work package WP6 comprises the following activities: Organise three thematic fora The aim is to bring together specialists from organisations participating in existing projects (EU or other) on the same theme with people from organisations and countries not involved in AirTN to foster dissemination throughout the EU member states. 1st forum on Single European Sky will be performed on 31st January 2007 at Eurocontrol Experimental Center in Paris 2nd forum on Green Air Transport System, in Germany at DLR (end of 2007). 3rd forum on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation in the Air Transport System in Italy at CIRA (mid of 2008) 13
WP7: CDTI (SPAIN) will manage this WP WP7 comprises the following activities: Disseminate and share existing basic documents (GARTEUR) between the partners and to improve upon it The topics to be covered are: Joint activities Best Practices To work out common guidelines on IPR rules and the future application w.r.t. transnational research activities 14
An objective of AirTN is furthermore: To establish a pilot trans national project with an appropriate budget as a transnational research activity This pilot trial action will be based on a variable geometry scheme and the principle of no cross border funding. It will be a horizontal output of all work packages. 15
Mutual influences SESAR - AirTN Benefits for SESAR arising from AirTN work-packages: WP 6 / Fora: The Forum on SES may lead to a better knowledge on SESAR and its importance in wider geographical areas (new member states) and in the European non-atm supplier industry (aeronautical or other). WP 4 / Study on Global Competitiveness: In time the acquired knowledge may allow the partners to learn from global ATM systems how to harmonize the European ATM landscape and how to integrate its different technologies. 16
Mutual influences AirTN - SESAR Benefits for AirTN arising from the SESAR definition phase: EUROCONTROL is a participant of AirTN as an associated partner; EUROCONTROL experts contribute their expertise in the AirTN work-packages (e.g.: WP4/Study on global competitiveness, WP5/expert meetings and WP6/Fora) The SESAR definition phase may smooth the way for bi- /multilateral research cooperations between AirTN partners in other European programmes or in cross-border managed activities/projects. 17
Outlook and Support AirTN/SESAR: AirTN is not comparable with SESAR in scope and budget (AirTN duration: 3 years/ budget 2,79M ) - not even with the SESAR definition phase. It may result in valuable contributions regarding the collection and analysis of ATM in Eastern Europe. It may result in delivering cognitions in existing ATM systems in Europe in comparison with those outside Europe. It may provide more information/possibilities to identify specific research topics in ATM for possible pilot trial actions. 18
Summary/Objectives AirTN: 17 Countries with 26 Partners and EUROCONTROL to step up cooperation and coordination in aeronautics R&T in Europe at national level to initiate possible joint actions to support the ACARE Process/SRA 2 for EU Aeronautical R&T together with to support Single European Sky activities based on with 30 years European Cooperation in Aeronautics Research 19
