Appendix C Transition Effects This appendix describes by type Dissolves, Wipes, and Digital Video Effects the collection of transition effects supplied with the Media 100 base product, the FX Option, and the POWER Option. The examples provided below and on the following pages use the terms A clip and B clip to describe the action of a transition. These terms are used in the context of A-B roll editing and do not imply restriction to a particular video track in Media 100. Dissolves Additive Dissolve The B clip dissolves (blends) through the A clip as determined by progressive addition of the luminance values for the sequential frames. Produces the effect that brighter areas dissolve sooner than darker areas. Cross Dissolve The A clip fades away uniformly to be replaced by the B clip. 608
Dissolve-FastFX Gallery of Transition Effects The A clip fades away uniformly to be replaced by the B clip. Available with Media 100 base product. C Dither Dissolve The B clip dissolves through the A clip as determined by the progressive addition of pixels. Non-Additive Dissolve The B clip is keyed into the A clip as determined by frame-by-frame luminance of the B clip. 609

Appendix C Digital Video Effects Animated Title Keys a text (or graphical image) PICT, prepared outside of Media 100, for crawl or scroll presentation over video frames. A PICT can include an alpha-channel mask or can be color keyed to one of five colors: black (RGB: 0, 0, 0), white (255, 255, 255), red (255, 0, 0), green (0, 255, 0), or blue (0, 0, 255). A PICT intended for a crawl is limited to a maximum horizontal width of 4096 pixels (6 plus frames) and a reasonable height dependent on available memory. The number of frames in a vertical PICT is limited only by the amount of system memory available to the graphical application. (See Chapter 13, Creating Transitions, for detailed information). Band Slide The B clip slides in bands from opposite edges of the screen across the A clip. Eight directional pins allow you to choose the direction. Side pairs choose horizontal or vertical direction; corners choose one of two diagonal directions. Custom Settings: Number of slices 616
Center Merge Gallery of Transition Effects The A clip zooms from full frame to the center to reveal the B clip. C Center Peel The A clip curls outward from the center in four parts with shadowed backs to reveal the B clip. This effect is frame-rendered; however, rendering does not compensate for object motion artifacts between individual fields. Center Split The A clip splits at the center into four parts which slide to the corners to reveal the B clip. Cross Stretch The B clip stretches from the selected edge as the A clip shrinks to the opposite edge. Four directional pins allow you to choose left-to-right, right-to-left, top-to-bottom, or bottom-to-top. 617
Appendix C Cross Zoom The A clip zooms out, and the B clip zooms in. Has two iris indicator pins. The green indicator pin controls the origin of the A clip zoom; the red indicator pin controls the origin of the B clip zoom. Cube Spin The A clip and the B clip map onto cube faces; the A clip rotates away to reveal the B clip. Side directional pin pairs allow you to choose horizontal or vertical direction. Curtain The A clip simulates a stage-curtain draw back to reveal the B clip. Doors The B clip swings in over the A clip simulating doors. Side directional-pin pairs allow you to choose horizontal or vertical orientation. 618
Fold Up Gallery of Transition Effects The A clip folds up in half sections to reveal the B clip. C Funnel The A clip forms and is pulled through a funnel, revealing the B clip. Four directional pins allow you to choose a funnel origin of left, right, top, or bottom. Luminance Map The luminance of the A clip is applied to the B clip.
