1 Creating a 3D bottle with a label in Adobe Illustrator CS6. Step 1 Click on File and then New to begin a new document. Step 2 Set up the width and height of the new document so that there is enough room for your bottle to fit in and enough room to work on the label. For the sample bottle image provided on Edmodo, a width of 600 px (pixels) and a height of 690 px will allow the bottle to fit in and allow room for editing the label. Click OK to save.

2 Step 3 Copy an image of the shape of a bottle (such as the one on Edmodo) and go into Illustrator, click on Edit and then Paste. Step 4 Hold down the Shift key on the keyboard while dragging the corner points out to enlarge the image of the bottle. Move the bottle to the left side so there is space to work on the label to the right side.

3 Step 5 Click on the Pencil tool, change the stroke colour to a colour of your choice and use the Pencil tool to trace around the left side of the bottle. Start from the top and make a lip on the top of the bottle, then go down the left side and underneath the bottom of the bottle to the middle. Start tracing here with the pencil tool Finish tracing here with the pencil tool Step 6 You should now have a traced line of the left side of the bottle. Using the Direct Selection tool, you can double click on round points on the traced line to drag the line around and smooth out the line fixing any mistakes made during tracing.

4 Step 7 Use the Rectangle tool to draw a rectangular label next to the bottle. Do not delete the bottle image yet it can be used to help you figure out the size that the label needs to be. Step 8 Use the Text (or Type) tool to insert text on your label eg. The brand name. You can also include other information such as product information, ingredients, manufacturing location, price and a barcode. Change the size and font style of your text as you wish and then use the Selection tool to drag it into position on the label. Step 9 You can now use the Selection tool to select the image of the bottle and delete it by pressing the Delete key on the keyboard. You will now be left with the traced line of the bottle and the label.

5 Step 10 Using the Selection tool, highlight and select all of the label (background and text). Click on Window on the menu bar and then Symbols. The Symbols box will comeup. Drag your label into the Symbols box. Step 11 After dragging the label to Symbols, you will be asked to give it a name. Call it Label and choose Graphic as the Type, instead of Movie Clip. Click on OK to save the new symbol which can be used later. After creating the symbol, you can delete the label from the document.

6 Step 12 Use the Selection tool to click on the line you traced earlier Click on Effects > 3D > Revolve. The Revolve tool will be used to spin the traced line around 360 degrees to form a 3D bottle. Step 13 In the Revolve window, make sure the Preview checkbox is ticked. Change the offset to be from right edge instead of from the left edge.

7 Step 14 Click on Map Art and then in the new window, click on the > arrow to cycle through the surfaces of the bottle until you highlight the outside surface of the bottle where you want the label to be located (Make sure Preview checkbox is ticked so that you can see the red mesh which highlights the selected surface section of the bottle). Step 15 From the Symbol drop- down box, select the Label symbol you saved earlier. Drag it on to the selected surface of the bottle in the Map Art window and resize it until it stretches all the way around the bottle. Click OK.

8 Step 16 Drag the cube around so that it rotates the bottle until you have the view of the bottle that you desire. Click on OK and admire your work! You can save your work by clicking on File and Save. You can also Export as a JPEG image by clicking on File, Export, picking a folder to save it in and choosing JPEG from the drop- down box next to Save as type: and then clicking Save. Upload your saved file to Edmodo.
