About: Art Patrick Art Patrick Assembly Product Manager Art is a senior member of the Solid Edge planning team located in Huntsville, Alabama. He joined the Solid Edge team prior to Solid Edge V1 and has completed projects across the entire Solid Edge application suite. As Assembly Product Manager he is now focused entirely on Solid Edge Assembly. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University. Page 2
Agenda What is Top-Down Design? SE Uses Inter-Part/Peer Geometry Sketch Support (2D/3D) Reference Planes Coordinate Systems ASM Relationships ASM Routing Page 3
What is Top-Down Design? Working in context of an ASM (Any level) Using other components directly and as quickly as possible to: Make new components Modify existing components Replace with Copy existing components P.S. A Sync/Hybrid approach excels at this Master ASMs with standard/well defined changes Page 4
What is Inter-Part/Peer Geometry? External link to geometry OUTSIDE of the active document Three documents involved: ASM/Part being edited in Place Context Assembly (Top-Level) Source of the Geometry (Part, ASM file etc.) Ordered makes Associative links Sync associative only using Inter-Part Copy Safety Tip: Linked variables are not Inter-Part! Page 5
ST6 Methods Inter-part Copy Create Inter-part Relationships (Sync) Ordered Profile Based Features Use ASM Base Reference Planes Ordered Feature Extent (Key-Point) Copy Sketch Sketch include/relate Peer Edges Assembly Driven Part Features Tube Component Paths Safety Tip: Use revision manager to copy files with inter-part links Page 6
ST7 Enhancements New No longer require write access to Top-Level ASM Introduce Shared Link Concept. (Link once use many) Enabled Peer Geometry for: ASM Relationships Routing Commands Reference Plane Creation Coordinate System Creation Updated Links collection UI in pathfinder Page 7
Controlled Via SE Options SE Options->Inter-Part TAB SE Admin Page 8
Sketch Support 2D/3D Tools TAB -> Peer Edge On/Off Peer Edge needs to be on in Sketch to: Locate Any geometry outside the Active Document (Upper and Lower Level Geometry) Peer On/Off is now global (Resets to OFF on SE Restart) Access: Use Turn Peers ON on the tools TAB (Sync and Ordered) Page 9
Reference Planes Ordered Reference Planes Part Assembly Feature/Sketch Planes Sync already support this (Non-Associative) Access: Use shift key to locate peer geometry (Sync and Ordered) Page 10
Coordinate Systems Coordinate Systems (Ordered Only) Part Assembly Access: Use shift key to locate peer geometry (ASM and Ordered) Page 11
