BATTERY INSTALLATION The LRB-7 Night Vision Binoculars require two AA batteries. Remove the battery cap and install 2 AA batteries with + / - (Positive and Negative) terminals pointing in the same direction pictured on the battery compartment. AA AA Figure 2 The built-in low battery indicator is a blinking LED light that appears in the left side of the view finder. When the voltage falls below 1.9v the indicator will appear, notifying you that the batteries will soon require replacement. Note: For maximum battery life from this device, alkaline batteries are recommended. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Remove lens cap. 2. Turn power switch to ON position (fig. 1.8). 3. Adjust (fig. 1.3) interpupillary distance. 4. Adjust sharpness by rotating objective (fig. 2.1) and eyepieces (fig. 3.1). Note: Observation and identification range provided by this device depends on the amount of ambient light, type of objective used, weather and contrast between the target and background. 5. If necessary the built in IR Illuminator can be used to improve lighting conditions. The IR Illuminator is activated by toggle switch (fig. 9.1). Use the toggle switch (fig. 9.1) to select 1 of 3 light intensity settings (5, 25 or 75 mw). When the IR Illuminator is powered on an indicator light will appear in the right side of the view finder of the device. Note: Be aware that 805nm IR Illuminator s do emmit some visible light (red in color) and can be seen by other night vision devices. The 940 nm IR Illumination is not visible but has a decreased range. 4
(continued) OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 6. An optical lens can be attached to the IR Illuminator to improve illumination range. Note: It is not recommended to use the IR Illuminator/lens attachment at a distance of 30m or less. Using the IR device at such short distances can over illuminate and flood the objective, causing dark spots to be permanently burned into the image intensifier tube. 7. To power-off the device - Rotate the power switch to the OFF position (fig. 9.1). Recommendation: When the device is stored for a long time it is recommended that batteries be removed to prevent leakage and corrosion. Warning: 1. It is important that this device not be pointed at bright light sources: bright lamps, sun, welding light, etc., as this can damage the image intensifier tube. 2. Do not leave the device ON and unused for more than for 30 minutes. DO NOT FORGET TO SWITCH OFF the device AFTER USE!!! Note: Automatic bright-light cutoff protection will power-off the device after 20-30 seconds of bright-light exposure. (Illumination more than 500 Lux). STORAGE & MAINTENANCE Always store and carry the LRB-7 in the case with the lens safely covered with the cap. Protect the device and optical components from impact, excessive dust and moisture. Store the device in a cool, dry place away from extreme hot and cold, with batteries removed. Storage temperature must not exceed 60 C. 5
TROUBLESHOOTING The device will not turn on. Check that the batteries are properly installed and have sufficient charge. The device will not focus. Rotate the objective and eye pieces to adjust focus. If the device remains out of focus, wipe the optical parts to remove possible dust and humidity/condensation. The picture has diminished or completely disappeared. A bright light source may be the reason for this occurrence. It is the automatic electronic protection built into the device to prevent prolonged exposure. If the LRB-7 switches off automatically, set the switch to the OFF position and wait 2 minutes to restart. Condensation buildup. In cold weather, condensation is possible on the outer surfaces of the eyepieces and objective lens. In this case it is recommended that the optical surfaces be covered periodically with a special anti-condensation coating. There are some black spots on the screen. Small black spots on the image are allowed. Most black spots are visible only in the daytime but when the device is used in Operation mode they are practically invisible. 5
