LINKSYS ONE SOLUTION OVERVIEW FOR HOSTED SOLUTION PROVIDERS One Voice & Data Solution for Small Business EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Linksys One is a complete, affordable, easy-to-install communications solution for small businesses delivering telephone service, data networking, applications, and Internet access through a high-speed connection from a Hosted Solution Provider (HSP). This solution leverages the world-class expertise of Cisco and Linksys, enabling HSPs to rapidly deliver high quality services with one system that is easy to manage. It is targeted to the underserved Small Business market, specifically to companies with fewer than 100 employees. As a converged voice and data solution, Linksys One is unique in a number of ways: Purpose-built for Small Business: It is not a complex or expensive enterprise system that has been re-engineered, rather it is built from the ground up with the specific needs of Solution Providers, VARs and growing businesses in mind. Flexible services delivery: Providers can customize the services and feature sets offered for different small business subscribers. This provides complete flexibility for pricing and packaging, and makes it easier for HSPs to scale services and to enhance margins. HSPs have the option to sell, market, and support Linksys One in several ways. 1. Direct: HSPs primarily supporting Internet connectivity and voice-centric services can enlist their own sales agents to proactively sell the solution and enlist installers to deploy CPE. In this model, the HSP is primarily responsible for supporting and remotely managing the customer s CPE. 2. Indirect: HSPs can enlist VARs to jointly sell, market and deploy the solution to small business customers. In this model, VARs are granted access to the customer s account through a VAR-branded web portal residing on the HSP s Service Node. Rapid service creation: The solution is quick and easy to install, manage and expand. Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) can be set up in minutes because Linksys One devices are automatically discovered and self-configuring to the HSP s Service Node. Reduced CapEx and OpEx: The solution minimizes the cost of sale with a single platform that enables both HSPs and partners to provision and manage all aspects of the network (voice, video, data, storage and applications).

New Revenue Streams: When Solution Providers existing infrastructure is augmented with the Cisco Service Node, HSPs can quickly and efficiently deliver high margin services for new, multiple revenue streams per subscriber. Linksys One s plug and play provisioning model and remote management capabilities have many benefits for Solution Providers: It eliminates the need to have highly skilled installers activate a customer s system. It provides the ability to remotely and routinely upgrade CPE with new firmware and/or features. It provides one platform for HSPs to offer business applications and other sticky services to reduce customer churn. It enables the development of differentiated and bundled service offerings with high-value applications that will attract new subscribers, and drive new revenue streams. Many small businesses do not have the resources to hire dedicated IT resources, yet need assistance with researching, installing and using these new productivity enhancing tools. They are demanding an easy, affordable, yet feature-rich business communications system that can be quickly installed or customized with little to no downtime. Linksys is an integrated, end-to-end solution that enables Solution Providers to deliver on these customer requirements. With Linksys One, a Solution Provider s small business customers can now enjoy all the competitive advantages of a Cisco-backed communications solution that will make their companies more efficient, productive and give them more opportunity for growth and success. As enterprises increasingly migrate to IP networks and integrate business applications onto their IP platforms, IDC believes that the managed converged services market will be a crucial battleground area. Looking ahead, IDC believes that managed application services and hosted application services will provide the greatest value-add to any service provider. Hosted Solution Provider (HSP) - The existing infrastructure of a Solution Provider is augmented with a Cisco Service Node for Linksys One. The Cisco Service Node is a platform that provides automated provisioning for CPE devices, branded services, interfaces to Solution Provider operational systems, and optional VoIP call routing. The Service Node can be expanded to offer customized applications and services that the HSP can offer to achieve market differentiation. Customer accounts can be segmented by partner VARs through branded self-service web portals, enabling VARs to securely view and remotely manage Linksys One devices in a customer s network. Broadband Access Network - This access can be DSL, Cable, or T1. In most cases, the solution can leverage a customer s existing broadband service while providing an opportunity for Solution Providers to obtain new subscribers or upgrade existing customers. Public Network - an Internet Telephone Service Provider (ITSP), Local Exchange Carrier (LEC), or Competitive LEC (CLEC) provides Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) call origination and termination. Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) - CPE includes a Linksys One Services Router (SVR), which is the backbone of the customer network. The SVR provides an integrated phone system, router, SIP application layer gateway (ALG), firewall, VPN, image server, configuration server, LAN switching with IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet and much more. Optionally, Linksys One IP Phones, Linksys One Analog Voice Gateways, and Linksys Business Series Stackable Switches and Network Storage Systems that are Linksys One Ready 1, can also be included. Communication between the customer s site and the HSP s Service Node is secured through the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). See Figure 2, below. 1 Linksys Business Series products that are Linksys One Ready contain the firmware necessary to be automatically discovered by a Linksys One Services Router and be integrated to a customer s Linksys One network. CISCO SERVICE NODE FOR LINKSYS ONE The Cisco Service Node resides in the Solution Provider s network, where it acts as a system portal for the overall provisioning and management of the Linksys One solution and provides services to Linksys One customer endpoints. The multi-tiered architecture of the Cisco Service Node allows it to serve as an aggregation point for customer provisioning, billing and management services, call routing (optional), and the hosting and reselling of premium applications and services. The Service Node also supports sales by providing value-added resellers (VARs) with secure, portioned branding services, account setup, CPE ordering, service configuration, and partitioning of end-user services. The Service Node connects the broadband access provider to the PSTN access provider and includes one or more Cisco Routers and Cisco Switches, a Cisco SIP Proxy/Registrar (optional), and Storage Devices and Servers. These components work together to provide services, features and capabilities for: Data/Connectivity Web Applications Voice Conferencing Security Video (Coming Soon) Billing Backup storage (for CPE configurations, premise voicemail, and other information archiving) Interface for integration with HSP OAMP systems (e.g. via XML API) The Cisco Service Node for Linksys One XA (extensible Architecture) Series delivers improved Hosted Solution Provider (HSP) profitability by reducing initial costs and lowering overall service node capital expenditures. The design of the service node allows HSPs to grow their service node along with their business. Instead of purchasing Service Node hardware and capacity licenses initially, HSPs can now spread out their expenditures through flexible right-to-use (RTU) licenses. Six versions of RTU licenses are available, in both per-seat and per-line versions (for more information contact your Linksys One representative). This new model appreciably reduces break-even times, and significantly improves HSP return on investment (ROI). Two models of the Service Node are available, each in AC and DC versions. Cisco Service Node for Linksys One XA Series Base units (part numbers L1-SN-XA1- BASE-AC and L1-SN-XA1-BASE-DC), which support 40,000 or more users Cisco Service Node for Linksys One XA Series Expansion units (part numbers L1-SN- XA1- EXP-AC and L1-SN-XA1-EXP-DC), which offer the same functions, but when combined with the base units, scale to 100,000 or more users For more information, refer to the Cisco Service Node for Linksys One Data Sheet at: http://www.cisco.com/en/us/products/ps7194/products_data_sheets_list.html Figure 3 - Cisco Service Node for Linksys One equipment Training is available for Cisco Service Node 2 and Customer Premises equipment enabling partners to quickly establish customer accounts and branded portals, and to activate and manage customer sites. 2 Cisco Service Node for Linksys One equipment may be leased to HSPs from Cisco Capital which can offer leases based on credit worthiness. Interested Solution Providers are encouraged to speak with a Cisco Capital representative to learn more about the options for which they may qualify. Hosted Services and Applications (per partner basis): The Linksys One system provides integration with hosted services and applications, such as voice services, contact center, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), content filtering, fax to email, storage back-up and support services, to name just a few. BENEFITS OF ADOPTING AND SELLING LINKSYS ONE The following are just some of the benefits that Solution Providers can anticipate when they adopt and sell the Linksys One solution: Customer Retention and Recurring Revenue Streams Linksys One decreases the costs of multiple service platforms for different applications. As the technology requirements of the business change, HSPs can increase revenue by adding additional user capacity; video, wireless, switches, storage and wireless access points; as well as high-value business applications. Because the Linksys One system is an integrated solution, there are no interoperability challenges between devices. The capability to deliver differentiated service offerings combined with sticky services is the key to reducing customer churn and increasing margins. Hosting Other Solution Providers via Wholesale Model The Cisco Service Node architecture easily enables HSPs to allocate accounts and space on the system for other Solution Providers. This opens up additional and recurring revenue streams and can help to offset capital and/or operational expenditures. Rapid Service Creation HSPs can significantly reduce onsite provisioning and deployment time and expenditures (including truck rolls) because of the auto-configuration capabilities of Linksys One CPE. Here s how it works: 1. Simply connect the Services Router (SVR) to the broadband connection, plug in laptop or a Linksys One IP Phone to the SVR, enter the address of the Service Node, a user name and PIN and the customer is up and running. 2. Additional Linksys One and Linksys One Ready devices are auto-discovered and can be configured by the Services Router. 3. Device configuration data is accessible from the Services Router to the HSP s Service Node, allowing the HSP or affiliate VAR to view and manage every Linksys One device on the customer s network. CPE Provisioning and Management Another cost-saving feature of the Linksys One solution is the ability to locally and remotely provision and manage CPE. Each Linksys One or Linksys Business Series product that is Linksys One Ready can be managed via a secure Web Portal. The Web Portal can be used by an agent or partner to customize all CPE settings (voice and data) for the customer s site, users, and network. Solution Providers can increase customer satisfaction with performance monitoring, and agents and partners can accelerate customer upgrades. Automated Updates and Upgrades The established broadband link between the HSP s Service Node and customers Linksys One networks enables new firmware (bug fixes, security patches and new features and functionality) to be automatically pushed down to customer sites during non-peak times or upon a customer-site request. This enables CPE to operate more efficiently and reduces troubleshooting and support costs. Services such as Amazon S3 and Akamai can also be leveraged for scalable firmware downloads.

Flexible Services Delivery: The Ability to Offer a Complete Data Networking Solution In addition to a wide array of data services like Firewall services, 802.1Q VLANs, QoS, Traffic Shaping, DHCP server, DMZ services, NAT/PAT and SIP-ALG, the Linksys One solution can also support multiple-site VPNs for small business customers that have up to five business or office locations (chain stores, restaurants, satellite offices, remote workers) who want to link them together with the same voice and data services. Linksys Business Series infrastructure products that are Linksys One Ready can also be easily added to the customer s solution. Stackable Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet Switches with and without PoE (Power over Ethernet) and Linux-based Network Storage Systems are available to add value to customer s investment. For more on these products, see The Customer Premises Equipment, above. The Ability to Offer a Complete Voice Solution (IP PBX and Key System) Linksys One includes a full suite of voice features for any demanding business customer. The following are just some of the PBX features available today: Direct Inward Dial (DID) with Calling Number and Calling Name, Multiple Lines per Phones, 3-way Conferencing, Auto Attendant, Auto Dial, Auto Trunk Selection, Call Forward (on-net, off-net), Call Hold/Resume, Call Park, Call Transfer (on-net, off-net), Call Transfer (Blind, Consultative), Call Waiting (Visual & Tone), Calling Line ID, Calling Name ID, Calling Name and Calling Number Blocking (i.e. *67), Call Rollover (Multiple Calls per Line on IP Phone), Centralized Voicemail and MWI for IP Phones, Configurable 911 CLID, Configurable Dial plans, Extension Dialing (2,3,4 digits), CPE-based Voicemail, Dial Access Codes, Directory on Phone (Site), Dial from Directory, Do Not Disturb, Extension/Abbreviated Dialing (intra-site and inter-site), Last Number Redial, Overhead Paging, Paging 1:1, Emergency Services Dialing (E911), Single Number Reach with Device Mobility, Speed Dials, G.711 and G.729 codecs, RFC2833 DTMF-Relay, Customizable Music on Hold, Night Services and SipConnect. Scalability The auto-discovery and self-configuration capability of the Linksys One solution means that a customer s network can easily and quickly grow as their business grows with new Linksys One devices and applications. This scalability provides a measure of investment protection that other non-integrated voice and data systems just don t have. Linksys One is designed to support up to 100 active voice users. Reduced CapEx and OpEx - Linksys One operates on a HSP s existing carrier infrastructure, which offers a lower cost method to access the Small Business market. Linksys One also minimizes the cost of sale with CPE that s simple and cost-effective to install, manage and expand. With the Service Node s self-service branding and provisioning infrastructure, multiple brands and agents can be set up and provisioned online, with little or no incremental overhead from the Solution Provider. Because Solution Providers have to devote fewer resources to ordering, provisioning and fulfillment, their profit margins increase. Reduced Risk - Linksys One reduces carrier risk. There is no need to integrate multiple boxes or deal with complicated featurebased licensing fees. The complete suite of services, such as voice services and features, business applications, Quality of Service, security and traffic management are all built into the system and can be remotely provisioned and managed by the provider. With Linksys One, Cisco and Linksys have applied their collective experience in voice and networked communications to deliver a superior IP communications solution for growing businesses combined with ease of use. Marketing Support - Linksys One HSPs have access to the worldwide sales and marketing resources of Cisco s Linksys division. Informational and promotional literature, e-mail campaigns, and other materials can be created to help drive sales and highlight new Linksys One features and applications. Linksys One collateral templates that HSPs can use with affiliate VARs are also available. SUMMARY Far beyond just another voice solution, Linksys One s low-cost extensible services platform delivers complete, affordable business communications and data networking to Solution Provider subscribers. The solution enables Solution Providers to offer their small business customers the converged voice and data tools they need to communicate, collaborate and compete. Linksys One is quick and inexpensive to deploy and manage. IP phones and other Linksys One devices can be installed in minutes, not the hours or days it takes with other communications systems. With Linksys One a customer s Services Router automatically discovers new Linksys One devices and configures them for optimal performance, security, QoS, and simple management. This rapid provisioning method results in a faster expansion of a Solution Provider s customer base. The Linksys One solution gives Solution Providers the opportunity to deliver business productivity applications, high-value business applications and even allocate accounts on their Cisco Service Node equipment to other Solution Providers for wholesaling managed services.
