Set for PRC Review in Fall 2018 Program (OAS) - Office Administration: Medical Office Specialist AS.1356 Program Catalog Summary: Associate in Science: SC Program: AS.1356 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This curriculum is designed to prepare the individual with clerical medical office skills for entry-level employment in physicians offices, health care facilities, clinics, laboratories, health and accident insurance companies, with related clerical duties essential to medical office assisting. This degree is pending approval through the California Community College Chancellor s Office. Upon satisfactory completion of all degree requirements and filing an application for graduation with Admissions and Records, the student s transcript will reflect completion of this degree. PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon successful completion of this degree, the student should be able to: 1. Effectively use appointment scheduling and patient recall software. 2. Identify the legal and ethical issues related to working in a medical practice. 3. Plan, design, and create a worksheet. For example, medical office specialist is similar to Office Specialist except for the small portion that focuses on the medial piece. Recommendation for Discontinuance?: No Analyze Overall PLO achievement: In reviewing our PLO performance we felt we met/satisfied the goal of the program. What changes could be (or have been) made to improve the program?: Additional placements opportunities with-in the local community as well as feedback about the alignment of our program with industry needs. Resources needed to implement the changes noted above: Additional outreach time and resources/flyers etc. Duplication of training: N/A Program effectiveness: Overall successful. Other data indications for program improvement: Steady growth year-to-year Replicating community college programs north of Sacramento?: No CSU and UC Transfer impact analysis:: These are non-transferable degrees in the CTE arena Influence on related programs and services: This program serves a large need in the introduction and continuing education arena which also leads to additional degree/career exploration from students. Being a CTE program this allows for quick integration into the community and possible job openings. Specific additional program reflections: This program is crucial to the support and growth of businesses in our communities and is constantly requested by advisory committees and employers.
